I just started fishing a few months ago.  Not sure why, but I got an idea to go fishing.  I went out and bought 2 rods and reels and off I went.  Since that day I can't stay away from the lake.  I've fished 2-3 times a week since then.  There wasn't any big fish or limit caught on my first outing that keeps me going back, in fact, I didn't even catch a fish.  I guess it's the peace and serenity of the fishing atmosphere that got me hooked.  Not to mention that you never know when you'll catch that monster:).

My grandfather took me to a local pond when I was around 6 or 7. I caught a little dink bass on my second cast, I have been hooked since. That little dink looked to be twenty pounds to me. I had to take several years off due to career and college, but always thought about it.

My mom used to take me fishing when i was little.  Ever since then i have been obsessed.  While bass fishing is my favorite, i enjoy and am down for catching just about anything.

when i was real young my dad would drop me off at a dounut pond we had on our property when he would go bail hay or something, with a cane pole and some little shiners- i would catch bass all day, i'll never forget that..

Getting hook on fishing was my because of my dad.  Ever since I can remember, he took me trout fishing, after work, on weekends, whenever.  He got a boat and I loved it.  Hobbies changed and we stopped fishing and went to dirtbike riding.

A few years back, I met 4bizz and he took me out to a pond one day, and I was hooked on bass fishing after that. ....thanks alot bud, you should of just gave me weed or something, it would have been cheaper in the long run.. ;D

I spent most of my youth fishing for perch, walleye, pike, bluegill, and crappie with my father. He didn't fish for bass, so I really never did. I never really targeted bass until I was about 18. Soon after, I bought a couple Chug Bugs. It didn't take long from there.... :)

My dad taught me always to release bass. He still gives me the business when I tell him I'm going bass fishing. "Fish for something we can eat," is something I still hear. ;D

Went fishing here at belleville lake to get out of the house little over 4 years ago.Was fishing for bluegills, redears and rockfish and ended up catching what one guy referred to as "black bass".This bass however was almost solid black differ from the normal green color.Been chasing them bass ever since that day. Then early this year i hooked a smallmouth, which is now dubbed as my favorite fish to seek out.

Funny thing is i never ever caught another one of those dark"Black colored" bass since... :-/ I really wish i had a camera that day.

My  parents would always take us fishing when my sister and I were kids. I remember going out in the back of the garden and digging for worms if it was not too dry. I, also remember, fishing in the Take a kid fishing tournament at Huxley Bay in east Texas when we were kids.

I got hooked because I loved being on the water and it gave me another reason to be on the water.  Then once you chance a fish and see him jump out of the water, it is a great feeling.

My first fish that I actually caught....I think it was a bluegill. Been hooked ever since!! The excitement of not knowing what my next cast may produce is AWESOME. IMO:o)

I used to go with my dad when I was young.  Been hooked ever since that.  It must've just been born with me because as long as I can remember I was fascinated with fishing

Unfortunately I've no fisherman in my family ! But my grand-dad was a hunter......

One day, we were in a Hunting/fishing shop with my Grandpa and my dad, I was like 6 and was looking at a telescopic fishing rod with a reel mounted on it.

All I knew from fishing was what was in my kids' books ! A cane pole ...that's it.

My dad try to explain me how the whole setup (rod + reel) really worked. To the 6-Y.O boy I was, the explanation wasn't really clear.

He told me it's was something you had to throw (well in French "to cast" and "to throw" is the same verb "lancer".... I ended up believing you had to throw the whole stuff in the water, which I thought was a really expensive way to fish.....

2 weeks later, I got my first fishing rod ! :P

I do not think that it was one incedent that hooked me on fishing, but rather a series of events that pushed me to where I am today and continues to move me towards becoming a better angler.

My father grew up with hunting instead of fishing for most of his life.  It wasnt that my grandfather did not fish, or did not take my dad fishing.  My grandfather was the eldest of 8 children, and during the depression it was he who would go fishing for food as opposed to sport or pleasure.  It was this reason that my grandfather rarely took my father fishing, for he had come to think of it as a chore.

Naturally as a child growing up I was raised on hunting the Michigan woods as opposed to fishing her waters.

My cousins however did fish and I was introduced at a young age to a zebco push button setup with a bobber and the greatest bait that every little boy knows about.  Worms.  Never caught any bass out of ole Johns pond, just gills and bullheads.  The excitement of watching the bobber submerge kept me coming back for more.  I messed with the smalltime stuff as a kid, but when I started to grow my fishing got pushed behind my baseball which consumed my time year round it seemed.  I of course had a break from it in the winter, but I didnt really like the idea of freezing over a foot of ice to catch fish either.

In college I found that between baseball and school you get pockets of time where there is nothing to do.  Granted good students find the time to consume these interludes with study, but ive never confessed to beeing a "good student" especially when it comes to prerequisite english.  A friend of mine from GA asked me what I was doing one afternoon, and when I said nothing he proceeded to tell me about this bass he saw spawning at the campus pond.  In a southern accent I could never hope to repeat he flatly said.  "Im gonna go rip some lips" you wanna come?

I didnt have a pole, but that hardly mattered when he produced an "extra" from his dorm room.

The setup was as simple as I can think of now, tho at the time I thought it would never work.  Just a wide gap worm hook with a pumpkinseed berkley power ribbontail worm.  With the hook exposed he said just toss er in there an reel it in.  Swimmin this worm I think I caught about 15 bass in this little channel.  They werent big, but they were bass and I fell in love all over again.

Another rambling I know.

But thats basically how it happened.  To tell the story from then to now would take WAY to much time.

Good fishing

It was a matter of ......... not having trout to fish for it, the zone is too warm for trout except for high in the Sierra de Lobos.

But let me tell you, I prefer bass to trout.  ;)

well i think i fished for the first time when i was like 7 or 8 at the charles river in MA at camp with my dad, when i pulled up a sunfish it scared the crap out of me and i ran like hell.

last april my good friend joe said we were gonna go fishin, and i said hell yea even though we had no idea what we were doing.  I bought a shakespear combo and proceded to use a medium heavy 8ft rod to catch sunfish (retarded i know, i didnt know back then)

I decided that catching sunfish didnt produce the fishing battles i saw on tv so decided to move up to bass.  Took me a good 2 weeks, a lot of money invested in useless tackle, and a lot of frustration till i finally caught my first bass on the charles.  Been hooked ever since... 8-)

lately been kayak fishing in my new 600 dollar heritage angler edition, best investment EVER!

Dad started my fishing when I was young. Mostly trout fishing. Then one time he took me bass fishing and I was hooked

When I caught my first flounder on a beach trip when I was eight. When I got back home, I wanted to fish more, and all there was was fresh water. So I went to a local pond and caught my first bass, the rest is history.  ;)

The Bluegill.  My grandfather had a small pond, less than half an acre full of them.  The recipe was kite string with a knot on the end of it and American cheese.  Caught them by the hundreds.

Soon after that I graduated to spinning gear and real hooks, catfishing on the banks.

Now, my latest addiction is kayak fishing.  Mostly smallie fishin' the small streams.

Well, my dad would take my siblings and I to a pay lake to catch rainbow trout every now and again.  That's probably the very earliest humble beginnings.  But then, in high school, a friend took me to the middle fork river and introduced me to the ways of the smallie.  We only used beetle spins back then (as that was about all we could afford) but I've been hooked ever since.

Wading big river with my grandpa catching smallmoouth got me started.  But when I got my boat last year it went to a whole new level.  I'm seriously obsessed  with bass fishing now. It's all I want to do.

my mom used to take me to the local park a few times each summer when i was younger for me to fish for some bluegills. well one day when i was fishing and i had a school of bluegills in front of me a big bass and i mean big, like 20 inches plus, just came in and ate one of the bluegills and the rest just scrambled. i had my dads tacklebox from when he was little with me and i started throwing out everything in there trying to catch it. so thats what inspired me to bass fish.

then a few months later i went bass fishing the first time at a farm pond and caught my first bass, a 16"er that went about 2lbs. i was so happy that day. thats what got me hooked!
