paul. Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 a couple of years ago i hooked a big beaver in the back leg on a 3/4 oz. rattletrap. what a fight! i briefly thought it was a monster fish until it surfaced, totally confused and p.o.'d about what was going on. to this day i chuckle when i think about it. it kept trying to look back at its leg like, "what the....!!!??? ;D thankfully it pulled loose and i got to keep my rattletrap. i was gonna cut my line anyway. either that, or i woulda ended up in some of jeff foxworthy's material. The_Natural Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 First off...this wasn't necessarily a 'catch', but I caught a 2.5lb spot in a tournament in '05, and he spit up a Gene Larew craw in the livewell that had swollen up waaay beyond its normal size. Â I don't think it was a hawg craw to begin with...the plastic was very gelatin like and you could tell it had absorbed a lot of water and was old. Â I'm not sure how long the plastic was in the water or how long the bass tried to digest it. Â Here is a pic..... Here is a frog that pounded a lizard..... I could have caught this snapping turtle several times...he was near the bank and chased my jig every time I retrieved it. Â Look at the claws on this guy! Â My cat doesn't have claws that big. Â I wish the bass were as interested in my bait as he was... Quote
Fish Man Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 my head on a lipless crank.....and while surf fishing almost caught a surfer  ;D Quote
Jake P Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I got snagged on a log and cut my line and lost one of my favorite rattle traps and a week or so later i came back to the same spot and hooked my old rattletrap and reeled them both in. Quote
The Rooster Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 A duck. I was casting live nightcrawlers in a pond and got too close to a duck and he grabbed it. I hooked him in the tongue. I had to chase him down and hold his neck and head while cutting the hook to remove it. He was very mad when I let him go. Then I reeled in 1/2 of a rod with a Daiwa spincast reel on it. It had an Eerie Derie lure on it. I thought it was strange to find a walleye lure on a rod in the bottom of a trout/bass lake. Maybe they do work for bass, who knows. Other things include shoes, diapers, once a small rock hooked perfectly in a hole on top of it. I once witnessed my brother catch a dead bass. It was hooked in the mouth so he thought it had taken his line. Turned out it had another line attached to it also and apparently had been hung up and died cause it could not move around to feed. He hooked it perfectly in the jaw, brought it in, lipped it and then was surprised to find it was already dead. Â Wasn't a keeper though so he had to throw it back. ;D Quote
Super User islandbass Posted February 4, 2008 Super User Posted February 4, 2008 I caught a river sculpin fishing with a size 5 floating rapala minnow. That is not the weird part however. I was pretty much at the end of the retrieve and stopped. The current pushed my lure to the shore such that the front half of the lure was on land and the other half in the water. Then, a small sculpin, no bigger than the rapala swam up, saw the lure, hopped up to it and lactched its mouth to the rear treble! I heard that they can be poisonous so I released it from the treble with great caution. Ugly mugs. This isn't the one I caught that day, but I just wanted to show you how ugly they are. Quote
flyhatch Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 this summer in fort morgan alabama I was fishing off a pier throwing a heavly weighted gulf shrimp when I felt some good resistance, turned out to be a sea turtle snagged in the foot. I felt bad cause he wrapped me around a pileing and was stuck out of the water. but a boat came by and I got the owner to un hook it for me. Quote
Korea_Bassin Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 caught a nightcrawler fishing for salmon in ship creek in alaska. on a spin n glow How did you know what the nightcrawler was fishing for? Â ;D Strangest thing I caught was.....a seagull....Monterey, CA. Now if you want to talk about strangest things seen floating in the water...I can honestly say I fished next to about a 12" TV - floating screen up right next to my boat. Â Also, almost every body of water I fish on here in Korea has at least one (usually more) soccer ball floating on it somewhere. Â Quote
Popeye Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 From shore: Â 7 fish at one time! 2 small bass, 3 suckers (these are called shiners by some) and 2 catfish. I snagged a metal stringer that someone had lost with all the fish on it and still alive. I thought I had a monster until I saw what I was reeling in. Weird:o) Quote
619bassman Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 i reeled in a glove by the middle finger once, all the others were folded down in a perfect "bird". i guess the fish were ticked i was slayin um that day. Quote
SimonSays Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 I remember tossing a jig out into the middle of a small pond once...I was using green braided powerpro and out of no where a bunch of birds fly by...I guess this one couldn't see the line cause he flew right into it...his struggle then tangled him up into it ... i had to reel him in hold him down a slowly remove the line...that was really weird  Quote
KYbass1276 Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 i know u guys dont want to hear this one but the strangest thing i have ever pulled in was a womens under garment a thong to be precise out of the ohio river i cut my line not touching that lol Funny you should mention the ohio river. Â My wife's uncle caught two condoms on the same day on the ohio. Â Needless to say he lost two baits Quote
FRfisherman Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 I've caught a snake using just a regular plastic worm.  I also pulled in a big mass  consisting of sticks, fishing line,  sinkers, hooks,  half of a fish head and a live catfish!  Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted February 6, 2008 Super User Posted February 6, 2008 2 things a casting net, which was a blessing due to the fact it was full of crank baits. i cut out the baits and took the rest to the boat ramp. my father in the back while fishing out of a small boat. we (he mostly) were lucky it was a small hook and the barb went in and out when i was casting. seems to me he tied on the biggest crank bait he had after that.......
