Low_Budget_Hooker Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 This comes up every classic but it's a story we can all appreciate. For those who care, let's take a moment to remember a great name of the sport, Brian Kershal. RIP Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 23, 2008 Super User Posted February 23, 2008 I truly believe he would have been another KVD Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 23, 2008 Super User Posted February 23, 2008 Yes, Catt. He had it all. Good looking. Nice guy. Great fisherman. A big, big loss to bass fishing. He would have been KVD before KVD. Hope he is looking down and enjoying the Classic. Quote
Perfect Hook Set Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 I never Met Brian I have only seen a lot of photos and watch some clips of him fishing... Though I was lucky enough to meet Ray and Ronnie Kerchal at there old home in Newtown. They invited us into there home with warm hearts... Ray showed us (my in-law and I) Bryans room which looked untouched, the way he left it. We were able to see and even touch the Bass masters classic trophy Ray and Ronnie sat down with us and both went deep into Bryans life, even shedding a few tears while doing so. They talked about him in his youth all the way up to the time he was on the plane. I appreciated the time spent with them and could tell that they supported Brian to the max... We could only dream of the success that he would have today if he was still with us. http://www.bryankerchalfund.org/ Please check this site out especially if there is ANY kids in your family Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted February 23, 2008 Author Posted February 23, 2008 Thanks for the link PHS, I will contact them on behalf of CAST. We need roots in Conn and groups like that are a very valuable resource. My goal is to get a CAST event in every state in New England. We are the last section of the country to be covered. Thanks again Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 23, 2008 Super User Posted February 23, 2008 Anyone with aspirations of being a bass angler should read Bryan's Story http://www.bryankerchalfund.org/ Quote
fishnaddiction Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 I truly believe he would have been another KVD i agree he was a good fisherman for being just a weekend angler he died way too young Quote
Perfect Hook Set Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 I believed he like fishing Taunton lake Newtown (CT) often. Quote
tfisherman Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 I was at that classic and the "meet the pro's" before hand. I saw him along with all the other pro's, never talked to him that would have been a good memory! I was 17 and eat'n up with fishing bass tourneys and becoming a pro when he died. I cried when the local news reported the plane crash, he represented all Pro wanna be's. What was funny is that they always bring in the winner last it's obvious who the winner is! They brought Brian in before Biffle and we were like awww man! Then when Biffle weight in he came up ounces short and everyone was like wwwhat!Yeahhh! It was unreal!! Everyone gives Fritts a hard time not being able to win on his home water with crankin being the #1 pattern there in the summer time. But the leaders were all flipp'n and I can contest to that pattern when the water is normal or a little high. We killed the fish the week of the 4th fishing the river area there years ago! Quote
CJ Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 Bryan Kerchal's story is very inspiring and a must read. Quote
maxke01 Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 What a sad way to go. On the top of his game. I never knew him or of him until i just read those articles on him. God truly had a plan for him way beyond anything anyone could imagine. He lived out a dream before his death and to me that is a wonderful way to live life. goes to show that life is way to short not to take a chance. Quote
fishizzle Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 Ya its a sad loss for CT and the fishing industry Quote
crazy4bass1 Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 i am not trying to be disrespectful but what exactily happened to brian? Quote
CJ Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 He died in a plane crash just a few months after he won the classic. Read the story! http://www.bryankerchalfund.org/ Quote

ba7ss3in Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 idk, maybe a good movie if done right, R.I.P. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted February 26, 2008 Super User Posted February 26, 2008 Yup seen the story on bassmasters and its a tear jerker for sure(the ending). :'( I never knew there was a fisherman like him from CT. I live right near there were he fished and grew up. I hope to hit that lake this spring too.. BigBill You can learn from his story it takes motivation and never give up just stay going forward and learn as you go from your mistakes. ;D Quote
jwo1124 Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 I understand that it was a great loss, but focus on the positive. The man won the Bass Master's classic, the pinnacle of pro bass angling. He accomplished what I would bet was his childhood dream, something that many people never do. He may have died young, but I'm sure he died proud and fullfilled that he accomplished a great goal. I only heard of this this past weekend when I was watching the Classic. And I mean no disrespect to the man, its a shame he died so young, and I'm not sure if he left a wife or children behind, but we all have to go sometime, and to at least win the Classic before you go is something special. Perfect Hook Set Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 He was not married but, did have a GF. Quote
jrhennecke Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 I truly believe he would have been another KVD i agree he was a good fisherman for being just a weekend angler he died way too young Way too young. He accomplished more in his limited time than some will in a lifetime. That is why it is so irratating to see people who have the talent to accomplish great things let it go to waste. And also the people who are afraid to put themselves on the line and take a chance. Quote
The_Natural Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Do you guys know how he won the Classic? During practice, he found an empty bag of Culprit red shad worms floating in the water, and thought the package might be from a local. Bryan started throwing the red shad Culprit and it accounted for the majority of his bass. Truly amazing and tragic at the same time... Quote
