fishizzle Posted February 19, 2008 Author Posted February 19, 2008 I stock up on lures in the winter to satisfy my fishing craving, then in the spring I wonder why I bought all these gimmicks -thin wallet Quote
jwo1124 Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 The weather around my parts in Massachusetts have been relatively Mild this past week. Last weekend we got crazy snow squals for 15-20 minutes at a time that would give way to bright warm sunshine. Yesterday and today have been beautiful. Yesterday it hit 60* and today it's in the 40's. It windy today, but I'll take that over a still day in the 20's which is usual weather for this time of year. I took a ride to the local ponds yesterday and I was bummed at first when I drove past the first pond. It looked as it was still completely frozen with thin ice, but then when I took a side street to another part of the pond I realized that the majority of the pond is open. I practiced my baitcaster for the third or fourth time yesterday for about an hour until I lost my Rat'l Trp I had tied on. The other main Pond I fish is still pretty much frozen except for a small but fishable area by the Ramp. I saw a guy fishing there with some Powerbait for trout, but I was only there for a few minutes so I don't know if he caught anything. They did just stock that pond a month ago with Broodstock Salmon again so Maybe if the weather stays mild I'll be catching some slamon soon... As far as gear goes, Haven;t bought much, only a handful of new lures. After dropping 200 on past gym dues and a new membership and paying this month's car insurance, my funds have been milked pretty low. I have four shifts this weekend at the restaurant, and with only my cell phone bill to pay this month, the majority of the money can go towards my fishing fund....not to mention the all mighty TAX RETURN!!! I think I'm going to be good this year and try for only two new set ups, a quality baitbasting combo, and a quality spinning combo, then just use my older gear as needed. Quote
TeamBerettaGold Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 -11 with the wind where I am at.....sitting on the internet spending money I dont have on fishing lures I already have to many of. And 18" of ice on all the lakes around me. Is it ever going to end!!!!!! Quote
dman Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 he only thing getting thin in these parts is my wallet! you are not kidding!! Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted February 19, 2008 Super User Posted February 19, 2008 I think the lakes have froze, unfroze, and froze again about 5 or 6 times the last month. This has to be the longest February in history. :'( Quote
WTRDOG Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 The ice is on and off around here. All open water now...almost time to get the boat out. Quote
fishizzle Posted February 19, 2008 Author Posted February 19, 2008 I'll have to get a Mass. license or go closer to the shore here in CT Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Went and beat the banks today in Providence...didn't feel like pulling the boat out. 44* and WINDY! Quote
ohiobassmaster93 Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 well im in ohio and everytime it starts looking a little promising another coldfront comes in and messes everything up Quote
oxbowbass Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Global warming sucks, eh? Got 10 degrees outside and another 15 days of forecast lows pledging to keep the ice on the lakes in SE Michigan. All I can say is it is good to be a fish right now. The weather conditions are even keeping the ice-fisher-guys off the lake. ;D Quote
Cigarlover 1 Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Man looks like it's time for a roadtrip for me. All the water around me is still frozen and looks to be frozen for a while. Haven't checked out the small ponds that closely but we've got a cold front comin and more snow it looks like. Sucks to be in a snowbelt. The good news is only about another month of the real bad weather left and then its all downhill. Quote
Fishin247365 Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 KU Bassmaster there's some open water at LaCygne south of Kansas City on Hwy 69. Gotta head down there. I was seeing some ponds and rivers starting to open up alittle (SC Nebraska) until this weather came blowing in yesterday. 50 degrees one day and 13 the next! Not fun. Some of the midlake ice on a couple area lakes are stilll 5 to 6 inches thick. All you southerners pray for warm weather for those of us who feel the need to remain up here in gods country! Were its 100 degrees in the summer and 2 degrees in the winter! Quote
Perfect Hook Set Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Some good open water here... Though most places are not fully open Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted February 22, 2008 Super User Posted February 22, 2008 Its getting thicker here . Quote
