Guest avid Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Nowhere did he ask for suggestions. A very wise man once said.... Giving advice when asked = Righteous Giving advice when not asked = Self Righteous I promise you this ... NO ONE will catch a bigger smallmouth in Florida then me.

Shocked! Well maybe not "shocked" Or even suprised at all ;D
Super User Long Mike Posted February 15, 2008 Super User Posted February 15, 2008 Great to have the rules clarified. My avatar qualifies as an Avid look-alike, although I am so much better looking. I'm live in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I will be fishing Caney Creek Reservoir in Louisiana the first weekend in March; Lake Fork, Texas the second weekend: Guntersville. Alabama the third weekend: and Grand Lake, Oklahoma the first weekend in April. So, if I catch a LM in Texas, can I compare it against the Oklahoma state record?
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted February 15, 2008 Author BassResource.com Advertiser Posted February 15, 2008 No, no and no.... State record of the state in which the fish was actually caught. and if you have to clarify that you are better looking that Avid, well.....
Super User burleytog Posted February 15, 2008 Super User Posted February 15, 2008 What if I declare my boat to be part of VA proper and line the deck with VA dirt, then go to Bammer and haul in a pig? I'm gonna be saying it was caught in VA.
Super User Long Mike Posted February 15, 2008 Super User Posted February 15, 2008 Well, er, Burley, this is just a friendly competition. I was just trying to clarify the rules. As you well know, once the rules are established, bass fishermen never cheat or lie.
Super User burleytog Posted February 15, 2008 Super User Posted February 15, 2008 If you ain't chea...er, fishin, you ain't tryin.
Dirk_Jig---Lure Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 7. Entry Fee - You must post your best Avid look-a-like photo prior to March 1. I'll still be looking at ice in most places March 1st
paul. Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 this sounds like fun. great idea! i'm in. largemouth division for me. in the words of the ufc's big john mccarthy - "let's get it on!" good luck to everyone! here's my avid tribute entry pic (minus the layers of winter clothes) ;D
CFFF 1.5 Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 i'm in for florida. Hopefully I can get down to the marsh for to recatch this one.
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 15, 2008 Super User Posted February 15, 2008 ok well im still in. IM IN LARGEMOUTH DIVISION! MY ENTRY FEE: this is a my best avid photo. its dark, over exposed, way too high contrast, and severely blurry. my body is also halfway cut off thanks to my dads skillful photography( : ) and the fish is being held vertically to boot! a perfect match!
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 15, 2008 Super User Posted February 15, 2008 oh and in the rare case that someone BREAKS their state record, what happens? do they get a special prize?
Super User RoLo Posted February 17, 2008 Super User Posted February 17, 2008 So what happens if you can't enter??? I'll still be looking at ice in most places March 1st It was Lee's iniative that kicked off the BR Shootout, so Lee calls the shots. All the same, I have a suggestion in the interest of fairness that might beef-up the participation. It would be nice if everyone could get a piece of the best month for big fish in their region. For example, the best month in Florida is arguably "March", but in Rhode Island's I'm sure the best month is no earlier than "May". It might be fairer if the fish-off ran from say March 15 to May 15. That way we'd all get a piece of the best action without centering on any one region. Waddaya think? Roger
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 oh and in the rare case that someone BREAKS their state record, what happens? do they get a special prize? If they are registered with the IGFA, they get the record,....that's not enough??? Doesn't matter up here anyway, we can't play.
Bassnajr Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 NEVER live your life by the "What ifs??" You'll waste a ton of time thinking but never doing. Go out and do!!!!! If we here in the North/Northeast can enter and play we will. If not, will follow you guys on the forum and revel in your successes!!!! Fish on!!!! ajr
Super User Jimzee Posted February 18, 2008 Super User Posted February 18, 2008 Here's my best Avid submission photo, fish cut in half and all. Mark me down for the largemouth competition. It's on!!!!
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted February 18, 2008 Author BassResource.com Advertiser Posted February 18, 2008 I would agree, Roger. I'm thinking Mar 1 through May 15 gives most of the northern guys a chance to play and lets us southern boys play before the water temp hits 90. And as LBH said earlier, forethought leads to longevity. This is something that is beginning to look repeatable.
