FivePoundBluegill Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I have not seen any fish on beds yet and dont think I will for another month. I have heard in some lakes and ponds fish start to bed around now but I have not seen it this early in my life. Anyone seen fish bedding yet? Quote
Dean Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 You won't find me bed fishing here, yet . LOL Been to busy play in the snow if yall know what I mean. Plus, the lakes are frozen anyhow. : Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted February 1, 2008 Super User Posted February 1, 2008 I'm not sure if they're bedding yet or not. Although, the bite around my area has been right up next to shore in 3' or less of water. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted February 1, 2008 Super User Posted February 1, 2008 This winterhas been un seasonably warm.I seen bedding in december caught females full of eggs and ones with raw tails. It seems kind of sporadic this year. The majority isnt going at the same time and they will probably do it until april. Oscar O. Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 They should be fairly soon given that this rain is going to finally end and warmer weather is expected starting Monday! Finally a sunny day in CA after so much rain! Quote

Cory20 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Anyone else feel a little off about catching fish on beds? Or tournaments during this time? Is it that big a deal, or am I being over sensitive? Quote
tfisherman Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I don't know how it is anywhere else but the lakes I fish in Va the females are full of eggs starting in Jan. I've caught them in 40 degree water full of eggs! They're not spawning but I guess mother nature is taking her coarse? Quote
alger319 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 yeah, here in central florida they're on good! Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 1, 2008 Super User Posted February 1, 2008 Still about a month away Quote
ba7ss3in Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Yeah, this weather have kept the bass from spawning here in Nc, I have seen them on beds in January. I don't like to fish for them when they are on beds but if I'm in a tourney I will. Quote
low_pro Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 The water here is way LOOWWWW! so there not on the "beds" per say but I did hook a nice egg-filled momma a couple weeks ago.. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Super User Posted February 1, 2008 Ice on all the lakes here! I really do envie some of you guys! ;D Quote
oxbowbass Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I feel your pain Crestliner. Here in SE Michigan, we have 8" of global warming since yesterday. Must have 6" of ice on the lakes. At this rate, we won't be on the water until April. Quote
Boett43 Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 yeah, here in MD where i fish all the bass are within 2-6 feet of water and there bellys look like they are about to explode Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted February 2, 2008 Super User Posted February 2, 2008 Anyone else feel a little off about catching fish on beds? Or tournaments during this time? Is it that big a deal, or am I being over sensitive? I think you might be over reacting a little. Although I don't sight fish much, I do not believe it causes any harm as long as the fish are released after the weighin. Just my 2 cents though. Quote
TruflShufl Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I hit the pits yesterday to no avail, couldn't see any signs of life either. Kansas weather probably has the bass confused ;D Quote
cdabelow Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I definiately dont have any fish bedding yet!! Had 18" of ice this weekend!! At least the Pike are hittle the Tip Ups....... Praying for some warm weather ready to get out!! Quote
fishizzle Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 I'm not against bed fishing if you let the fish go quickly before the bluegills invade the bed. But putting one in the livewell is questionable ---you can kiss that batch goodbye in 5 min. If we scheduled our tourneys to miss the spawn there would be another club taking that day and killing eggs. Catch 22 Studies have shown that enough beds survive to sustain a population. We've been fishing beds for years and still we continue to catch bass all year every year. Quote
Guest muddy Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Anyones fish bedding or yet? I couldn't get the pillow case to stay on the hook Quote
