Few GC pond questions

Ok, I have a few qustions about golf course ponds. Where I live, their is no shortage of golf courses and they all have ponds. I always hear about people fishing golf course ponds, but how do you know which ones are stocked with bass? Why are they stocked? And who do you contact to obtain permission to fish these ponds?

Good question.

Here is my input.

If you can ask for permission on the days the course is closed, usually Mondays, the management may give you permission for catch and release.

Otherwise, you can always trespass and fish when the course is not open, be it before the first tee off time or on days when the course is closed.

You are usually not allowed to fish the ponds while the course is open as there is always the probability of you getting struck by a golf ball and being seriously injured.

I have fished golf course ponds with management's permission.  That way  you can have a good time and not worry about being thrown out or arrested.

Some guys just fish the ponds and never have a problem.  I don't want to take the chance.

It is up to you how to approach the golf pro to ask for permission. So make your plans and practice your presentation.

if it is a country club, a member should not have any trouble if they are out of play. If it is public and you live on the course, you shouldn't have any trouble. If you get in people's play, or If their is a lot of golf traffic, don't bother, unless you are a largely donating member!

Ask the manager. The worst thing they can say is no.

I have yet to be told no and there are some great fish in those ponds.

Just ask, more than likely they wont say no.  Like Sam said, golf courses are usually closed one day a week.  It is usually monday, to give it a break after the weekend.  I tend to catch my biggest fish out of golf course ponds.

i fish a golf course almost exclusively....my buddy is a member so i have to go with him...we just roll up, grab a cart and go...open or closed, they dont mind....i think tomorrow i am going to go thre and see what i need to do so i can fish there without him.  like others said...just ask them....i will let you know what they tell me tomorrow

On the golfcourse I live, all the ponds are stocked.  I guess the best way to find out is ask. If no one knows then just go fish it for a while and see what happens.

well i went there today and asked...apparently you can golf there if you are general public and just pay the green fees...but the fishing is limited to members only...and to be a member you have to cough up $100 a month....so in short, i will only be fishing there when my member buddy is with me

Guys, I would contact the golf course superintendent.  He is there before the golf pro is out of bed in the morning.  Assuming you would fish early in the morning (before golf) he would be the one to get to know.  

Take a trash bag with you some morning before sunup, pick up cans, dog wrappers and other trash around the pond and ask him where the dumpster is around the maintenance facility.  You will probably have better luck getting permission.  Some still won't let you, but you never know till you try.

I know this works when someone asks me for permission.

Its amazing how many different fish are in the ponds at my course.
