Cburgerjr35 Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Just letting everyone know that the same week of the road trip to Guntersville.... ;D MARCH 26 - 29 The FLW SERIES (BP EASTERN) Tourney is on Wheeler Lake, launching at Ingalls Marina in Decatur, Al., about an hour away from G'ville. Maybe some of the guys will want to go to a weigh in or 2....Just letting you know....I don't think that they will be allowed to LOCK through to Guntersville Lake. Quote
Super User Tin Posted January 4, 2008 Super User Posted January 4, 2008 I don't think that they will be allowed to LOCK through to Guntersville Lake. They always have in years past, I dont know why they do. They should just fish the tourney there instead of Wheeler, most of the guys head to G-Ville anyway. But either way it is worth checking out, FLW puts on a great show. Quote

If that's a FLW rule, then maybe not. Otherwise, anyone can use the locks, but the main risk is availability. Sometimes boats can get stacked up waiting on barge traffic. The Tennessee is a commercial river. Quote
Cburgerjr35 Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 MONEY is whats bringing the ELITE PRO'S and FLW Series to Wheeler...INGALLS Harbor and Marina is one of the newest, biggest , and nicest marinas in the U.S. I went to the B.A.S.S. Southern Open there in OCT. '07...I couldn't tell you how many anglers got up on the stage and commented that INGALLS was the best Tourny. site that they had EVER been....Even some ELITE PROS like Mark Davis, Timmy Horton, Preston Clark....were saying it. I'm sure they will lock through, though. If they can. Quote
FHUAngler Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 They can lock through. Im not sure what all this hype is about Ingalls. Ive been there multiple times...and its basically just a boat ramp with a parking lot? I was at the BASS Southern Open there this past fall, and i mean, it was OK, but nothing spectacular. Its definitely NOT one of the biggest marinas in the US. There are much bigger on Pickwick. Not trying to argue...just stating the facts. Quote
Cburgerjr35 Posted January 5, 2008 Author Posted January 5, 2008 Just going by what the PRO's said...... INGALLS is just a formality, anyway... Like I said MONEY in B.A.S.S. & FLW's pocket is what is bringing them to Wheeler. Quote

The Tennessee is a commercial river. The FLW was here (Pickwick) in October, and they were allowed to lock to Wilson AND Wheeler. About 40 boats stayed on Wilson (who knows why) while about a dozen went all the way to Wheeler. It also seemed that they had somehow set up pre-arranged lock up and down times at Wilson during the tourney. And.... I think the vast majority of the commercial barge traffic is headed to Wheeler, where they can drop off chemicals to Decatur companies. I don't think (I could be way off, but I've never seen one on the G) there are too many barges locking up to Guntersville. There just isn't any industry up that way. That being said, I'm excited about a FLW and an Elite Tourney on Wheeler the same year. It's just a hop and a skip down the road! 8-) Quote
Bob Kavanaugh Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Well, looks like there is no locking allowed in this one... Per the rules on the website for that tourney. : Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Here's a cool opportunity for the guys going. You guys can track your 5 best fish of the day and then go see the FLW results and see how you would have done if you were in the tourny!! Quote
