Super User Tin Posted December 5, 2007 Super User Posted December 5, 2007 In very bad taste imo, 3 months before, after all travel arrangements and such are made, B.A.S.S. "canceled" this years 2008 Junior Bassmaster World Championship. Instead it will be fish along with the Federation Nation Championship in November to go along with its whole "grass roots" movement. Wow, is that a way to smash a kids dreams who always wanted to fish with a KVD or Mike Iaconelli or what? Just plain wrong if you ask me. > Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 5, 2007 Super User Posted December 5, 2007 Wow! Another strike against an old standard. They just keep sinking lower. Quote
Super User Tin Posted December 5, 2007 Author Super User Posted December 5, 2007 Wow! Another strike against an old standard. They just keep sinking lower. Yup not only are State Feds and families loosing money but I mean come on, when I was going, if someone told me nope, change of plans, I would have been devistated! I might have just said forget it and stopped fishing. I feel sooooo bad for these kids and there families. Even though it is still on, it will be nothing like it used to be. Just the Classic Atmosphere was unlike anything else, the oppurtunity to fish with your hero, the winners going on stage and getting driven around the arena on the final weigh in day. Just sad. :'( It is just one thing after another and I see more states going over to FLW/TBF. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Tin's dad called me today, I can't tell you how bad I feel for these guys. I think they are out like 5k, just in non-transferrable airline tickets,....un be lievable. I just lost ALL respect for that organization. Luckily, the TBF-RI just got an ACES president, I can see him recovering this fumble and seeing the whole RI jr team go their way. I hope they do,..the $$ they just cost their members is a slap in the face, the fact that they just left asll these great kids hanging,....well, that's a kick in the privates. I'm extremely let down. Way to go ESPN > > > > Quote
basspro48 Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Wow, talk about a serious slap to the face. I used to have the utmost respect for BASS and its youth program, mainly because I wanted to go to the Jr. Classic, but not anymore. I guess thats another reason to be happy that my club is a TBF/FLW affiliated club... Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 5, 2007 Super User Posted December 5, 2007 wow. thats horrible. ive never liked any big name money clubs, the other one ive dealt with was the north american fishing club. they are a bunch of retards. you pay for nothing basically. i hardly get any information in the magazine or their website. and they are always trying to make you buy stuff you didnt ask for. only thing good about them WAS their forums, but even those are informative, just a bunch of good people to socialze with. now they done f'd the forums up and they are sooo hard to use. im goin bass resource exclusive now 8-) Quote

I think they are out like 5k, just in non-transferrable airline tickets,....un be lievable. Not to defend BASS here or anything, I just want to maybe provide a travel tip. The non-transferrable tickets should be able to be used for another flight. United has a $100 fee to use the value of that ticket on another ticket if booked within one year of the travel date of the original ticket. Confusing enough? So, if someone had a $400 non-transferrable ticket that value could be used to "purchase" a different $400 ticket for $100. Still sucks big time, but they may be able to get some use out of that money. Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 5, 2007 Super User Posted December 5, 2007 Follow the money. ESPN is all about money. ESPN is not about fishing, football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, rodeo, arm wrestling, poker championships, etc. ESPN is about money. ESPN will save a lot of money by combining the events. ESPN could care less about any individuals. Growing up in Louisiana you learn to "Follow the Money." It is still true today. A simply sad state of affairs. ESPN has once again shot themselves in the foot. Just "Follow the Money." Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Yes, that's true,..... X 14 kids....... This will cost the kids no less than $1400, just in Airfare Let's remember the vacation weeks parents took, hotels, etc etc. A few of these kids have sponsorships that also pivot on them being there. But most of all, what kind of message does this send the kids of our sport? Quote

Low_Budget_Hooker Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 this is a copy I found on another site, of the email the Jr Directors got today. "Attached please find a Press Release announcing the move of the JWC from the 2008 Bassmaster Classic in February to the 2008 BASS Federation Nation Championship in November. This issue was discussed with groups of Presidents during the recent Presidents meetings and is being done to align our youth programs with the premier BFN events. We realize that this is short notice and for that I apologize, but I have been reviewing all of our youth programs (as well as all BFN programs) since my return to BASS in May. I believe that this is the right move for the overall Junior Bassmaster program and there is no reason to delay implementation of the decision. Without going into all of the details, I believe that most of you will be very pleased with the youth initiative that is currently in the planning stages. We should have that finalized and out to you right after the first of the year. This was a tough decision, but one that will ultimately help all of us strengthen our youth programs and provide a youth initiative that directly leads to an increase in BFN membership. If you have any questions, please feel free to email or call me. Thanks and have a great holiday season, Don Don Corkran BASS/ESPN Outdoors Director, BASS Federation Nation Office: 407-566-2075 Cell: 407-973-5971 Fax: 407-566-2072" ok, not sure what the name of the event is but when all the state champs compete for the extra spots at the classic, this is where the Jr world champs will be. Instead of going to THE classic, fishing with the pro's, etc, they will be fishing with the state champs. No disrespect for towards these guys intended but how lame is that? MY OPINION (same opinion that has kept me from joining a club all these yrs) Quote
bassnleo Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Horrible, absolutely HORRIBLE! Yet another reason why I no longer belong to B.A.S.S. I really feel sorry for all the kids..... Quote
bighed Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Those BASS guy's suck. It will be an easy choice where my son and I will fish next year. Media Bass. Well run tournaments, better payout than BASS ever had. Will look in to the FLW Jr's also. And to think we drove 550 miles to fish one of those Jr. BASS tournaments last year. I'm very sorry for the state Jr. Champs. big Quote

Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted December 6, 2007 Super User Posted December 6, 2007 What a crappy time and place to hold this event too. Junction City, KS is far from a vacation hot spot and Milford Lake is nothing special at all. Quote
bassnleo Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Someone give me a clue? They are still going to hold Casting Kids at the Classic, yet they moved the JWC? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for anything kid oriented, but.......if we want to truely get kids fishing and shed more light on the sport of fishing, actually taking them fishing and mentoring them in that way is definatley the way to go IMHO. Sure, a casting competiton may spur interest but it is nothing like being outdoors and actually fishing. Quote
bighed Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 This really chaps my butt. Here's the email I sent them: Cancel my membership this second and refund the balance of my membership. I will not spend one more penny with BASS nor participate in even one more local BASS event. How could any adult screw children out of a tournament experience with their fishing heros that have already earned? You folks are a bunch of *****! Quote

I really find this hard to believe. I wonder if any of the decision makers at BASS/ESPN bothered to think of how many people this was going to pi$$ off? Those kids want to fish with KVD, Ish, Ike and Skeet....not John Smith, Jerry Doe and Joe Shmo. (No offense John, Jerry and Joe) but the whole pro/kid experience is GONE! WAY TO GO BASS! Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted December 6, 2007 Super User Posted December 6, 2007 That's about par for that outfit...They suck Quote
Bassnajr Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Well this sucks!!!!!! > I agree this is horrible. Maybe a call to the local television station is in order. I have found in the past that the last thing a group of "big money" people want is to look BAD especially when it involves kids. This isn't even a story that needs to be spinned. It is a true case of Goliath screwing David. Let's not forget...E.S.P.N. is right down the road for alot of us in Bristol CT. Imagine if the Little Leauge told the team from Lincoln, RI or any other youth team from around the country, Sorry no World Series!!! What an uproar!! Good old fashion Americans making noise and boycotting if nessecary.. P.S. Anyone here know any of the B.A.S.S. PROS???? I am sure that they would not be happy with this situation and perhaps would be a good allie??? bassinajr Quote
StatosDadRI Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Thanks for all the support I see in these messages. We will all get past this dark day in BASS history. Calling those 2 kids and their families as well as couple Jr guest an my own daughter to tell them the JWC/ Classic was off was thee most stressfull, depressing day of my 42 years. I've contacted the Airlines and as long as we travel with them; NorthWest within 1 year and we can't switch any travelers we will be looking at $100.00 per ticket, $1400.00 loss. JWC with the Pro's, Classic memories, ruined family vacations and the disappointment have been crunched by Corporate and =$0.00. I wonder how much additional advertising $dollars$ it will take to re-coup the lost membership from this money saving plan. Again Thanks Junction City, Kan., and Milford Lake. Information needed please tell me you've seen a Northwest Plane on a local runway. $4200.00 if not :'( Quote
