FivePoundBluegill Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Just wondering guys how small does a bass have to be for you to class it as a "dink"? I know it is different for everyone. For some people a bass is a bass no matter what size. To most people however a small fish is classed as a "dink". For me a "dink" would be any bass that weighs under one pound. A 1-2 pound fish is at least fun to catch for me so I do not consider them dinks. However for some people( hawg caller, Fourbizzle, Fish Chris, Roadwarrior, ect) a dink would probably be any fish under 5 LBS. Just wonder how small a bass has to be to be considered a dink for you guys? Quote
Super User Micro Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 When the bass is smaller than the lure you caught him on. Otherwise, he's a trophy!! Quote
frogtog Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Anything smaller than the legal size you can keep. Quote
basspro48 Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Any nonkeeper, which is anything under 14" around here Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 Dink=skidder and a skidder is any fish small enough to skid across the top of the water not pulling your bait and line back in after the hook set. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 "Tournament bass" Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 Anything under 2lbs in Florida unless you are using ultralite with no more than 6lb test. Quote
tallydude Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Anything under 2lbs in Florida unless you are using ultralite with no more than 6lb test. Agreed. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 i say anything 14 inches and smaller. above that they are fun to catch and can sometimes have a little weight to them if they been eatin good. haha i like that "skidder" concept, i think i might have to use that one ;D Quote
pondhopper Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Any bass less than a pound is a dink. Ditto Quote
Super User 5bass Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 Dink: noun: Any bass that comes flying out of the water on the hookset. And the term skidder around here refers to the rock bass. They fight like crazy for about 2 seconds then they just body-surf the rest of the way to the boat. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 Dink=skidder and a skidder is any fish small enough to skid across the top of the water not pulling your bait and line back in after the hook set. thats a good one ,but i've been fondly referring to them as "surfers" Also in FLA anything under 2 Quote
LCpointerKILLA Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Anything under 2 in Florida? Bro I live in Florida and I have seen people win small tournaments when the fishing is tough with 5 bass for 10 pounds. That means your hardly legal one pounder was a big help... along with a three pounder(s). And (if you have a scale) you know that a 1-2 pounder fights. A 1-2 pounder is way different than a baby bass that just skids in on the topwater when you reel it in. That is a dink. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 I wasnt talkin about fishing a touney on a super high pressure lake where the fish are getting pelted with lures like hail day in and day out.A 2 lber is a blessing in those places! Quote
Super User cart7t Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 Are we talking about dink the BFR forum member or dink the bass? Quote
Live.2.Fish Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Is this what you guys are talking about? He was caught on a 5" Trick Stick, wacky Quote
Super User grimlin Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 The non-keepers are referred to dinks here..which means 14'' or less.Anything over 14" here are keepers. Quote
bighed Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 A dink is a fish too small to get a good pattern off of. Usually under a pound and a half or so. You catch a couple 14" fish and think your on to something until weigh in and everybody else has 4's and 5's, lol. big Quote
paul. Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 several others have already touched on this, but i think it's all relative to the place you are fishing. some places i fish, a 2 pounder is a good solid fish. other places it's below average. then of course there's the climate/growing season factor to consider. some places a 7 pounder will hardly turn any heads, but up north that same fish is an absolute monster - a "fish of a lifetime". but i guess a dink is a dink no matter where you catch it. i'm gonna go with the majority here and say anything less than a pound is a dink, or as i like to call 'em - a "squealer" ;D. or you could look on the bright side and just call 'em "future hawgs". Super User fourbizz Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 anything smaller than 1/3 of my biggest fish on that body of water. So if I am at the lake that I caught my 13 at, a 4lber is a dink. If I am at one of my local lakes where my pb is under 5 pounds, it would have to be under 1.5 lbs to be a dink. I always gauge my fish by the body of water. Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 Less than 11 inches is a dink in my dictionary. Quote
Jeff C. Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 any baby hawg under 12" is a dink in my boat... Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 Anything under 14" (keeper size) Is a dink to me. Falcon Quote
