I would like to know if any one has had any injurys when fishing or boating.

As for me I sliped off my trailer trying to get the boat on at a bad boat ramp.

I got a big cut on my left hand, broke left wrist, sprained left ankle, black and blue from left butt cheek to left sholder (landed on trailer). Thank god i'm right handed. I still don't how I didn't hit my head on the bow stop.

Thanks for reading

Last spring i hooked a 4lb alligator gar on a rapala,  my favorite lure and when I could not shake him off I reached for the pliers.  Next thing I know he's in the boat with me, my hand is bleeding like a stuck pig, I have a set of trebles hooked into the cargo pocket of my shorts and the other set still in the gar.   Having that many teeth that close to several rather important parts of my anatomy, well lets just say I was more than concerned.....lets recap....in my left hand are my 10" longnose pliers, now completely covered in blood, in the pliers is a very upset gar, in the gars mouth is a rapala, and oh yea the other set of trebles in my shorts...anyway five minutes later there is a hole in my shorts, the gar is back in the lake, a bandaid on my hand and the only real damage is the blood stains in the carpet.

during a tourny in the glades, i set the hook on a fish right next to the boat only to have the weight come flying back at me. it shattered my costas and a piece of glass was imbedded in my eye. the TD let us weigh in early  and i was rushed to the hospital to have emergency surgery on my right eye. good news though--finished 4th and won $600 and costa sent me a brand new pair of glasses.  i am still fighting with my insurance over the ambulance ride that cost me $750 for a 2 mile ride.

The wife had a drop shot sinker (metal part on top) go completely through her top lip (stitches) after it came loose from a snag. The following week, I had to get a tiny torpedo surgically removed from the first joint in my left thumb. Both of us ended up with tetanus shots that week. Crazy!!! :o

This story is not for the faint of heart.

A good friend of mine was walking on the tounge of the trailer, got on his boat, then when he tried to step off the boat onto the upright that holds the winch, he slipped and impailed the winch pipe into his "man parts." He was so stuck with this pipe stuck into him that 911 was called and they had a terrible time removing him from the pipe to get him to the hospital. He ws really messed up and fianally found a Doctor in L.A. that would even try to make his parts functional again. It took several years to get all the work done but he claims all parts work normally. It makes me hurt just to tell the story.

He was a pilot and I flew with him several years and he recently retired.

Broke my foot knee boarding once.  Hit a big wake the wrong way, came out of the kneeboard, flipped over frontwards and my foot rapped the board pretty hard coming down.

I proceeded to spend the rest of the afternoon on a PWC running around.  My foot swelled up like a football.  When I got back to the ramp and got off the waverunner I nearly fell over.  I had to be helped to the car and then to the hospital.   :P

That's about it other than some cuts, scraps and bruises.

Hey all...

Since we're sharing..

I was in my 10' Bassraider boat with my buddy. He has a Power worm on a very Large worm hook. He went to cast, and snagged my left ear...right in the cartlidge!!!! After 10 long minutes of him screwing around, I had to push the hook in and then get it out. It was freaky and it HURT!!!!

I fish with ear muffs when I am with him now!!! ;D

Here is my story i posted way earlier in the year.I was fishing with my uncle last winter, it was cold and windy. I was using a 5/8 ounce BPS rattle trap lure and i left to much slack line when i went to cast.I felt somthing hit my head as tho i had been punched or smacked to the back of my head and i reached back to realize my lure had pinned my hat onto my head. lol, we tryed to pull it out at my uncles house for about an hour and a half before my aunt took me to the hospital emergency room

P.S. the funny thing about it is that my parents were outta town and had just walked into their hotel room when they got the call, and that that has been one of my most producing baits since then ;D

I recently had my left finger nearly amputated by a boat/jack incident, but that was at home not the lake.

Have hooked myself pretty bad  (more than one hook past the barb at the same time) 3 times.

My left shoulder has some sort of rotator cuff problem that never goes away, presumably from hucking big baits as hard as I can all the time.

By far the most painful one was about six months ago. I was night fishing with a 1oz jig. I casted, heard a splash, and I swear i felt a bite. I swung as hard as I could, but there was no resistance, i think the jig must have been sitting in an inch of water. It flew back sooooo freaking fast and hit me square in the kneecap. It hurt so bad, I swear I almost passed out. I now believe that the kneecap really is the most painful place to be shot.  God that hurt!

I feel your pain on the kneecap thing.  I took a shot to the knee with a fastball in highschool and it made me so sick from the pain that I puked.

Ive had treble hooks in two of my fingers over a lifetime. In both instances I was trying to remove a lure from the fishes mouth when all of the sudden he starts jerkin and flapin like crazy before i can get my hand out of the way.  "Ahh, I dont need them needle nose pliers, he's not hooked that good" will get you hooked every time.

Only once when i was 10,casting a spincast zebco reel only to stop in midair and fly back at me.Got me in the arm.

I've been lucky since then, because i yank my lures out of trees and bushes for it to come flying back at me.Hasn't struck me yet. *knocks on wood*

1.  Had to have treble hook surgicially removed from finger.

2.  Had real bad sunburn/windburn on face.

3.  Fell off side of boat in driveway. Bruised and embarassed but not one saw me. Just a few minor bruises.

4.  Lost balance in boat and fell onto deck. Hurt side and shoulder. Did the fall deliberately so I would not fall out of the boat.

5.  Scraped and cut fingers and hands working on boat.

6.  Tore rotator cuff by pulling on trailer to move boat in yard. This was by far the dumbest thing I have done with the boat, so far.

I been lucky so far as to not have to go through anything like some of these stories.

One recent one though:

Was squirrell hunting one day with a rattle trap and had a caught in a dead branch about 40 ft away.I was getting pretty ticked because that was the only one of that color I had with me and was catching fish prior. So I yanked and yanked harder.I have pretty fast reaction time, and have dodged a lot of lures in my day,but this thing had the velocity to rival the speed of sound when it came out.I was not wearing a shirt and it hit me flat in the middle of the chest and left a perfect size black and blue diamond shape pattern.Four of the hooks stuck me but not past the barb. The slap was so loud it was almost like smacking an oar flat on the water.

I ripped open my scalp when I did an overhead cast with too much line out.  It bled for a half hour, and my T Shirt was stained down to the middle of my back.  Every time I washed my hair for the next couple of weeks, I reopened the scab and bled for a while.  It sucked.

I keep seeing these "falling off trailer" stories.  Get some Teva River Sandals.  You won't have that problem anymore.   I have never slipped off my trailer wearing these, and I swear by them.  They stick to slippery, moss covered rocks for God's sake.  I think they can handle slick painted metal.   :)

Dirk gave me a couple whoopings this summer, I'm talking like 15-2, 14-4,....real spankings.  I would have to claim an injury,....my feelings were hurt, lol

I've seen a couple of good ones offshore. The worst was when a team of guys were leadering a blue shark.  Pulling the line in by hand (leadering) they created a few coils on the floor.  The angler stepped into one and then the shark got loose from the leaderman on the side of the boat (bad wrap).  The coil tightened around the ankle of the angler, slicing clear to the bone, ligaments and all, in a complete 360 around the ankle.  He was airlifted and the rumor has it that he will never use the ankle again (hobbled)

Another incident on the BXRL tour, a spearfish launched into the boat, impaling the female angler through the breast.  The spilled silicone supposedly created a clotting scenario, subsequently saving her life.

Another guy took the bill straight through the calf muscle.  No fun.

Luckily I, or anyone I have enver fished with has ever gotten injured while fishing, but I have came close one time. I was fishing with my younger brother out of my 12' boat, and since he is not really tha tmuch of an angler, more of a tag along when i go fishing, we was mindlessly casting and on one of the casts we hooked into the hood of my sweat shirt that I had up over my head becasue it was windy that day. Thank god I had that hood up because if not, I could have had a husky jerk stuck into my cheek.

By the way, those are some horror stories some of you have told. I hope I never have to get injured while fishing...I mean how do you make that sound cool?  :)

After coming off the lake I decided to throw a Texas rig around the other nearby docked pontoons. Walking down the dock I slipped and fell in to the water cracked my head on the dock pole. As I was sliding down between the dock and the pontoon I found myself trapped under water, I was on top of my left arm and while trying to move the right found that it had a 4/O hook in the thumb that was limiting my mobility, of course I was using braid. Not really wanting to die in 3 feet of water I pulled the hook out of my hand, hurt more later than it did then, then reached up and grabbed hold of the bottom of the pontoon, which unfortunately was VERY sharp, and pulled myself out.

The SHARP part of the pontoon I had grabbed cut my little finger to the bone around most of the finger. Then I had to pack up my stuff, wrap an old rag around the bleeding finger and go home to face the wife.

Took 14 stitches, physical therapy and a whole bunch of shots and the finger really does not work right yet but at least I will live to fish again.

Forgot to add the obvious.  Been hooked 4 times (deep enough to be an issue, in reality, been hooked many more times than that,.....we ALL had to learn crankbaits at some point, lol) but only 1 time required a trip off the water to the hospital.  The hooks from a 1 oz rattle trap, yup, 1 oz, were embedded in the top of my head.  The newly replaced Gammy hit bone and dug in, could not be removed on board.  (made for a kick azz xray though, lol)

I bet Fluke has seen many of these xray at work, lol
