Lard_Bass Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 This is the time of the year when that bait monkey attacks more than usual. Here's my contribution, I was going on a business trip and the wife was dropping me off at the airport. I couldn't stop thinking of that recent Reeds sale on St. Croix's that whole morning. The wife basically tells me to stop torturing myself and just buy the rods. I get to the airport and 5 minutes before I board my plane, I decide to boot up my laptop and to let the monkey take control. I ended up with two new rods (AS68MXF and AS66MF). I don't even remember pushing the buy button. The monkey took over my body and then the next thing I know is that I am sitting on an airplane and wondering what I just purchased. Later that day, the Reeds sale was off and I forgave the monkey. We are now shopping for a nice reel(s) to go with my rods. Quote

Evan Pease Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Recently I went to BPS with $230 and had planned to save some of it. I wound up having to borrow 20 from my mom that I paid back lol. : Quote
Jake. Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I went to buy a couple crankbaits, and ended up buying two St. Croix Avids. :-? Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted December 5, 2007 Super User Posted December 5, 2007 Just like when I went to Dicks yesterday to pick up 1 pack of hooks I needed.I had no intention on anything else, nor did I have anything else that I NEEDED in mind.Walked out after spending another 54 dollars on hardbaits and plastics. Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 5, 2007 Super User Posted December 5, 2007 blew many months of research about rods in 2 minutes on the reeds sale. not regretting it though lol! all i gotta say is.....He made me do it. Â ;D Quote
Super User Raul Posted December 5, 2007 Super User Posted December 5, 2007 The most recent one ? For quite a while I 've had the intentention of puchasing some Daiwa neoprene reel covers for my bcs and spinning reels, the only one that carry them is TW but for whatever reason you can imagine either I forget them or they are not in stock or they are in stock but another thing I want is not, after all I 'm still going to pay 30 dollars international shipping so purcasing 40 dollars and paying 30 dollars shipping is just absurd. Well, I thought, aside from the Daiwa neoprene reels covers how about some Shimano ones too ? ( there something unholy about covering a Shimano reel with a Daiwa reel cover ) no joy, the ones I wanted were not in stock so I waited for almost two months. Bingo ! last week they had all the reel covers in stock, placed the order and I 'm sure it was an extracorporeal experience I saw myself adding stuff to the cart and calculating the shipping after every addition to the cart, as long as it remained at 30 dollars it was fair game ( exceed the weight or size and the shipping cost beefs up ). So let 's see: 80 dollars in reels covers I need, 30 dollars shipping and 80 dollars of stuff I don 't need ( beavers, Ikas, kreatures, worms and some cranks ) ........ how the heck it happened ? Super User Redlinerobert Posted December 6, 2007 Super User Posted December 6, 2007 I went to the local tackle shop to buy a crankbait, ended up buying a piece of land with a lake on it full of fish. Â OK I'm kidding. Â ;D Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted December 6, 2007 Super User Posted December 6, 2007 I went to the local tackle shop to buy a crankbait, ended up buying a piece of land with a lake on it full of fish. Super User Long Mike Posted December 6, 2007 Super User Posted December 6, 2007 Robert, that's even better than the Joke about the kid selling $100,000 worth of fishing gear to a guy who wanted to buy tampons. Â If you haven't seen the joke, go to Everything Else. Quote
HookMaster Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 I found away to tame the monkey, or should I say my wife found a way LOL. Â She buys me gift cards, so far its been working. Â Oh, and she never goes with me anymore to BPS or Academy...loooooooong story. Quote

mt Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Last weekend I went to Bass Pro shops with a friend from work, I was going to spend the $75.00 I had in gift cards. We decided to meet at Academy sports for convenience. Now that I think about it was my idea and the scent of bananas was in the air when I thought of the meeting place. well anyway we met at Academy, when we left there I had. 1 Falcon fto jig box (it really was a good price) 4 bags of Wave Tiki Shaddicks 1 box Spot remover jig heads 1 bag Power Bait Beasts 1 bag power bait Sabertail Bugs 3 bags Paca Craws and 4 spro bronzeye frogs (in a pear tree) Did I mention the heavy smell of Bananas in the air, not to mention the claw marks on my back. So on we go to BPS, I have to keep in mind I am just going to get a couple of DT  cranks. An hour or so later I arrive at the Prattville  BPS. Going into the store I notice the smell of Bananas in the air, must be muffins in the gift shop. I walk up to the register proud of the fact I have picked up the DT cranks, and a couple of other things. 3 DT 4 4 DT fat 3 4 DT flat 3 3 DT 6 4 DT flat 7 4 DT 10 4 DT 16 6 X-Rap Shads 2 X-Raps 2 Skitter Props 2 Skitter Pops 2 Skitter Walks 2 Original Floaters 2 Rattlin Raps 2 Shad Raps 2 Shad Rap RS 3 Minnow Raps 1 Red Eye Shad Sexy Shad 2 Pack Standout Bass Hooks The Bass Pros first season DVD. I walk out of the BPS wondering where all of this other stuff came from, oh yeah my buddy just said something about bloody claw marks on my back and bite marks around the neck and head. Hey is that a Wal-Mart I need something to put plastics in as I no longer have any room left in my current tackle bag. I will just grab a couple of worm wallets. Going into the store I realize I can still smell the Banana Muffins from the BPS gift shop. 1 Okeechobee Fats 3 box bag ( Hey it will hold the worm wallets and matches the soon to be full Green 8 box bag) 7 Quantum Worm Wallets 1 bag Zoom Finesse Worms  Now My buddy just said something about an addiction, and he is mentioning an intervention. Also he still is talking about bloody claw marks. I am happy to report that I have an understanding wife. I also did a great job of insulating the dog house, and the hounds were really happy sleeping on my side of the bed. I am back in the house now. I just realized Christmas is coming up and that means Academy and BPS  gift cards, hey who is cooking Banana muffins. Quote
Super User Tin Posted December 7, 2007 Super User Posted December 7, 2007 LMAO!!! Good one dad. Quote
luckyinkentucky Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 One thing I've learned about the bait monkey is he makes you dumber than a box of rocks when he's riding your back. Â I went into BPS about 3 weeks ago dead set on a $150 budget. Â I kept throwing baits in the cart thinking to myself ..." Ok. Â I need one of those and those and those, but I won't get anywhere near $150 with what I have in the cart!" Wrong!!! I got up to the register thinking I only had $150 worth of stuff in my cart, and ended up ringing up $230 worth of stuff. Â ;D The wife kept saying that I had more than $150 worth of stuff in the cart and laughing. Â I should have listened to her, because He doesn't affect her like he does me. Â I should have listened to her! Â Quote
mar Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 i just bought a chronarch mg for myself that my wife was suppose to get me for xmas. Bait monkey couldn't wait...I'd rather tick off my wife than the bait monkey. Quote
luger306 Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 The wife and I went to Academy (she will not let me go alone)today to outfit our grandson with fishing gear the bait monkey got both of us gerandson 125$,pop150$(the RV need a new batery)grandmom$130 when we got home she looked at me and asked when we were go back she had forgot to get some line Quote
luckyinkentucky Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 ........ she had forgot to get some line Ah ..... that's a classic Bait Monkey move! Â You have to go back to get some line, but you aren't going to get anything else! Â Â ;D I've done that a few times myself. Â Next thing you know you end up spending the exact same amount of money that you did the first time. Â All to get some line. Â Quote
Super User FishTank Posted December 10, 2007 Super User Posted December 10, 2007 The biggest hit I took from the bait monkey was a Shimano Calais and a Loomis BCR803 GLX. But I have one to share from a retired guy I use to work with (sort of like Roberts joke). Â He went on vaction to Orlando, FL for a week then he called in sick for the next 4 days and on Friday he calls and says, "Guys, I am retiring. Â I bought a house on the water near Lake Whales. Â I got a great deal. Â I plan on fishing everyday for the rest of my life." Â I was jealous and happy for the guy at the same time. Â He retired to his dream home at the age of 54. Now the bad news. Â The lake he lived on dried up due to a water shortage last year and all that is left is a pile of mud. Â He and the other residents were stuck with things the way they were upto this year. Â I guess there is a big environment project going on in Florida that is trying to restore the Everglades to it's natural state. Â His lake is on the list for improvements. Â It make take years to fix but it will be fishable sometime in late 08'. Â The bait monkey never lets go sometimes. Â ;D Quote
