Super User skunked_again Posted November 29, 2007 Super User Posted November 29, 2007 my boat sits freshly waxed(not the "quickie" wax either) carpets shampooed everything broke over the season fixed full tank of gas batteries fully charged and my boat sits this is when you know your cold water fishing skills blow. i pass the time walking the banks of my fav. fishing lakes looking for lost crank baits thinking march cant come soon enough.....sigh Quote
Super User Tin Posted November 29, 2007 Super User Posted November 29, 2007 Same here, boat is covered, until tomorrow anyway high of 48, lol. Then a cold front and the forcast says high temps wont get out of the mid to upper 30's after Friday and possibly the first snow of the year Sunday night. It has been a colder than usuall fall this year too. The lakes that dont freeze until late December have ice on them in the morning so it isnt looking good. I need to make the deck extention, installation of the new Minn Kota, and a few other boat upgrades last until March so I wont go too crazy wondering around the house. Quote
luckyinkentucky Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 I know what you mean! I keep thinking about all the fun I've had the past few summers, and I can't wait for it to come around again. It puts a whole new meaning to the phrase 'Cabin Fever'. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted November 29, 2007 Super User Posted November 29, 2007 You guys are killin me. How can you live where you can't fish 365? Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 29, 2007 Super User Posted November 29, 2007 Don't forget to run the gas out of the motor and put Stabill in your gas tank. Or, hook up the "ears" to the motor, sit in the boat, start the motor, and play going fishing while you drive your neighbors nuts with all the motor's noise. Then put the trolling motor down (careful not to hit the trailer's tounge) and stand up and start practicing your casting skills. One of two things can happen. First, you will improve your casting skills; or 2) the people from the funny farm will arrive to take you away. For your information, I have taken the gas out of the boat and put it into gas cans to use for the riding mower if I am sure I will not be going back out on the water. And I practice casting in the big field next to my house! Quote

I like to hunt and it gives me an excuse to put the boat away. There might be some "ok" hunting in Texas! ...lol Don't you guys have power plant lakes up north? We're only about 3-6 weeks away from power plant lake spawn (depending on which part of the state you fish)! Hunting is awesome but I can only eat a couple deer. Besides, what could beat a big fish on a buzzbait during prespawn in December??? This was last December: Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted November 29, 2007 Super User Posted November 29, 2007 Yes, there are power plant lakes. No, we dont have fish like that LOL I am truly jealous right now Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted November 29, 2007 Super User Posted November 29, 2007 You guys can complain about the winters all you want. How would you like 95-105 for a high for four consecutive months and a low around 80 during the summer. It is just about unbearable. Not to mention the 500.00 monthly electric bills. And 95% humidity to go with it... Quote
Super User Tin Posted November 29, 2007 Super User Posted November 29, 2007 Yes, there are power plant lakes. No, we dont have fish like that LOL I am truly jealous right now x2. Rhodey is still 4-5 Months till prespawn or when the ice is off > > > Quote

fisherdave Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Whats sad is that I got my boat early august and fished it once and I am just now getting it back up into shap to fish. Good thing we dont have real harsh winters so I might get time to fish this winter. Quote

Super User Tin Posted November 30, 2007 Super User Posted November 30, 2007 Yup, I'm gonna crank her up and burn some stay-bil through it today. Only one lake left to fish this year. My CT lakes have ice on them Quote
rondef Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 My boat is winterized and covered as well, I feel your pain. The good thing is the shore fishing has been good the last few weeks (caught a 5.5lb LMB) and I can use the exercise. I walk on average of about 10 miles a weekend fishing from the shore this time of year. Quote
Bass_Akwards Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Sarcastic rant... Awwwwwwe, you poooooooor babies! I feel sooo bad for you. LOL. Complaining about your boats being put away for the winter? Do you guys complain when you can't take your lamborghini out of the garage when it's cold too? Appreaciate having a boat in the first place, and think about us losers who walk the shoreline all spring and summer, not being able to locate fish with a fish finder, having no idea how deep the lakes we fish are unless with C-Rig and feel the bottom on our own, or be able to hit many spots on lakes you lucky boat drivers get to crush all fishing season. If any of you have an extra bass boat, just PM me for my address. Quote
tntitans21399 Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 my boat needs all that, but whenever I go to take to it to a car wash it just keeps wanting to go straight so we head to lake instead of turning right to the car wash. Anyone else have that problem. I usually go all the fixing things during the week and when the weekend comes I can head straight to the lake. Quote

Super User cart7t Posted December 7, 2007 Super User Posted December 7, 2007 There's a sheet of ice on the boat as I type. Looks like I'll be semi-winterizing this weekend. Some other forum members have asked if I want to fish a couple Power plant lakes over the winter so I should have a full plate this winter. Their boats are more suitable for those HP limited lakes than mine anyway. Quote
stratosjoe Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 I live in central Illinois . 1 1/2 hr drive to newton (hot water discharge),1 1/2 hr drive to Turtle Creek (hot water discharge) WHY winterize? Dress for it, put a bucket with a coleman lantern in it. Fish slow take plenty of coffee. make a map as you slowly cruise the lake, find stucture you fly over in the summer.. Life is short at age 65 you will be too tired or in poor health so say some...as they say JUST DO IT !!!!! My boat would probably never start if I let her sit for a couple months even with stabil and a full charge she would be ticked. ;D Quote
X-Rap Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Here in PA there snow on the ground but its susposed to be in the 40's tomorow so you can bet ill be out. Not planning on doing much catching but it still beats the heck out of sitting at home. You know your desperate when your fishing in a snow suit lol! Quote
