Guest avid Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Anyone been bass fishing at the Disney world resort in Orlando? I understand they are outstanding. Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 4, 2007 Super User Posted December 4, 2007 Avid, I want to go back to Disney World in Orlando before I croak and when viewing the Disney World information I noticed those ponds and was wondering if one could fish them. I sincerely hope so. Looking forward to hearing what the guys have to say. Merry Christmas! Quote
FillupD Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I thought you could fish from shore or maybe small non-powered boat for around 80 bucks for 1/2 day but I can't remeber exactly. frogtog Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Me and my son had a guide at Disney World some years ago and we had a heck of a time. It was like a $100 bucks then for a half day. I'm talking Red carpet treatment here. The guide pulled up to our door and all we had to do was climb in. He furnished every thing. Quote
eastkybass Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I was at Disney last year but didn't have time to go fishing but what they told mw was that any of the lakes or ponds on Disney property were catch and release and open to resort guests. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted December 4, 2007 Super User Posted December 4, 2007 All Walt Disney World® Resort Guided Fishing Excursions include: * An experienced guide That's the funniest thing I ever seen I watched a couple guys in a boat who were fishing behind Magic Kingdom. After you've watched them for about 10 minutes you'd know that Cinderella with a blindfold would need no guidance Disney World: A man trap devised by a mouse ;D Roger Quote
Super User FishTank Posted December 4, 2007 Super User Posted December 4, 2007 I went there 9 years ago and we stayed at the Lodge Resort. The fishing was amazing. I fished from the bank the first couple of days (I don't think I was allowed to though) and then we rented a boat. The lake is stocked with tons of largemouth and hardly anybody fishes it. You could see schools of bass from the bank numbering in the hundreds. By the looks of it, it was way over stocked but it sure was a lot of fun. Quote
djs fishing Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I have done it twice. Cannot say it was the best experience. I would get a guide on a less commercial lake. The price for Disney is most definately higher by a lot. The guides were OK nothing special. Good trip for average week end or less angler but not a serious guided trip. IMHO Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 When I was just a kid my family stayed at the Grand Floridian for a few nights at Disney, and I'll NEVER forget one evening before eating dinner at the restaurant on the water, my brother and I looked over the edge of the railing and saw the three biggest bass I've ever seen, just sitting there in open water, all in the 10 lb class. I don't know if there are any big fish in there anymore, but this was in the early-mid '90s. The lakes/ponds in that area look extremely fishy though, I'd like to go there again someday for the fishing. Incidentally, I ate bad shrimp cocktail that night and spent the next two days vomiting instead of going on the rides. Quote
Infidel. Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Incidentally, I ate bad shrimp cocktail that night and spent the next two days vomiting instead of going on the rides. That's too bad. Normally its the other way around, people vomit after going on the rides, not before Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 4, 2007 Super User Posted December 4, 2007 We stayed at The Animal Kingdom Lodge two years ago, and I wanted to try it for a 1/2 day. My wife and two girls reminded me that this was a family vacation and that we were going to do family things...like hit every friggin store in Disney World :-/. Quote
shimanogloomis man Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I went to disney about 10 years ago when i was 16 yrs old and fished Bay lake im tellin u i have never caught more fish any where else. I went on a guides trip i forgot how much it was but i know it was expensive but oh well my parents paid ;D, The guides nothing special but will bring u to the hot spots, we were using shiners so me i like using lures , i bought a couple with me from home so i tied on a 3/8 oz white spinner bait and ill never forget the guides like you aint ganna catch on that so the next that first cast nailed a 4 pounder, i shut that guide up , all i remeber that i was catching more on the spinnerbait then my bro and cuz on shinners. There was this one dock the guide said is always good so we anchored on it and walk and casted shinners around and caught a bunch so my cuz at the time was like 10yrs old he just flipped a shiner out about 3 feet and i never seen a bass this size in front of me she had about a 10 pounder his rod was bending drag was rippping she jumped then shooted under the dock and snapped his line :'(.But one day i would love to go back with my experence and see what i can do...If u any of u have kids they would have a ball.... , as for equipment this is 10 years ago keep in mind quantum energy with a rhino rod both worked but junk . As far as i know Bay lake is guides only its not public, i remember a coulpe years ago bassmaster was there and killled them they had a tounament there... Quote
LCpointerKILLA Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I'm about to do it soon. I won't touch live bait, and will bring my freaking heavy tacklebag with me, and will likely impress the guides. I live about 20 minutes away and several of my friends and people I know have fished the 7 seas lagoon and bay lake with the guide. They all had a blast, and they all caught some big fish. I look forward to it. PS some of the "Yo Ish" segments early on Saturday mornings with Ish Monroe are at Disney. In one segment Ish was killing it dropshotting, and the dude he was with was having moderate success with a crankbait. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 5, 2007 Super User Posted December 5, 2007 Sounds to me that on the right day you could kill 'em with a bare hook! : Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Sounds to me that on the right day you could kill 'em with a bare hook! : I actually fished a little golf course pond once that was so overstocked with tiny little dinks that I was pulling one out every cast with a bare hook ;D Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I have gone three times to Disney over the past 10 years, stayed on a resort each time. Last two times I was told to stop fishing. I stopped, then asked the concierge if we were allowed. He said no, but that it wasn't like we'd be kicked out for it, just asked to stop... There is one resort on Disney property that allows fishing, but I don't remember which one. That is the one I am staying at next time I go. That or try one of those guided tours. On the ferryboat to the magic kingdom, you will always see a couple of bass cruising around the dock. I saw a pretty big one once, had to go 8 pounds, just sitting there looking up at me with a mocking grin on his face... Quote
hamer08 Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I'll be down in Orlando for a business trip next week and was thinking of adding an extra day to squeeze in a fishing trip (Monday 12/10). Can anyone recommend a guide, preferablly one that can provide everything? I don't want to drag everything down to FL. Quote
