bass109 Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 What do you guys think the worst fishing conditions are? Rain and cold fronts are the only time i put up the rod and reel. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted November 25, 2007 Super User Posted November 25, 2007 The toughest for me are cold muddy water conditions. Speaking of cold it has been in the mid 30s at night with a high of low to mid 40s since the Thanksgiving cold front blew in. for east Texas that is pretty raw weather. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted November 25, 2007 Super User Posted November 25, 2007 Well I dont have to deal with hard water.I dont mind rain.Sooo cold fronts are my bane. The bass cry like little babies around here cuz the temp dropped 5 degrees.Whaaaaaaaaa! Quote
Super User Catt Posted November 25, 2007 Super User Posted November 25, 2007 Hum that's easy Toledo Bend mid-July dead calm with temperatures in the lower 100s & the humidity in the upper 90s; you can't stay on the water past 10:00 am. A couple years back I recall it being 96 degrees with the humidity above 90 % at 2 o'clock in the morning. Quote

Makes for a long day. :-/ Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 25, 2007 Super User Posted November 25, 2007 The toughest for me are cold muddy water conditions. On Wednesday I left work early for Thanksgiving. Spent a couple of hours on a local pond and had a BIG afternoon. This was right before a massive cold fron moved in, heavy rain and a thirty degree temperature drop. Fishing the same pond for a few hours on and off, Friday, Saturday and today I've gone 10 fishing hours without so much as a bite. Cold, muddy water sucks! Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 What do you guys think the worst fishing conditions are? Rain and cold fronts are the only time i put up the rod and reel. When its 70 degrees, full sun, no humidity, a light breeze, and, I have to go to work. ;D Seriously, cold and windy, with dark stained/muddy water. Quote
Jake. Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 During December and January. I can't catch a thing during these months. Or whenever the water is clear. I love fishing in stained/muddy conditions. Quote
Super User Tin Posted November 26, 2007 Super User Posted November 26, 2007 Cold clear water is the toughest to fish for me, the worst conditions to fish in are the typical April and May cold-fronts that come through New England. At the start of the day it is usually 60* with heavy rain and 10-20 from the north, by the end of the day it is 40* with 20-30 from the north. The fishing isnt always bad it is just the conditions. Super User Bassn Blvd Posted November 26, 2007 Super User Posted November 26, 2007 In Florida....95 degrees with high hunmidity and blue bird skies with ZERO wind. Quote
Guest avid Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 cold and rain by Florida standards is a welcome event. I'm in the 90 degree or hotter with steamy tropical humidity means find me some A/C Quote
Brian_Reeves Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 I'm going to say rough water. Cold fronts and hot weather just mean that the fish are very, very predictable. Rain means it's time to party. Clear water makes color selection easy and wind tells you what side of the lake to fish...but there isn't anything that makes sitting on a boat in 3 ft chop and catching fish easy or pleasant. Quote
Pond Hopper Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 4 inches of rain, post cold front, and muddy water! :-/ Quote
senko_77 Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 cold, muddy water. hands down. this is the only condition where before I start I already know I'm probably going to blank. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted November 26, 2007 Super User Posted November 26, 2007 Whether I'm fishing in Florida, Canada or anywhere in between, the weather I like the least is Cold and Windy. The aftermath of cold windy weather is usually cold and muddy water, and as several fellows pointed out, that really sucks! Cold muddy water is a double whammy: Muddy water reduces the bass's vision and Cold water reduces their reaction speed. If you work the lure at a normal pace, it may be out of the bass's sight-window before the bass has a chance to react. Roger Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 Cold, muddy water, strong wind, right after a cold front with a lot of fishing pressure. I'd still rather try my luck than be at work though. Quote
Super User Raul Posted November 26, 2007 Super User Posted November 26, 2007 Those calm windless clear blue skies during the spring when temps hit the 110°. And you don 't want the wind blowing a lil bit, better stand the heat than being on the other side of a blow dryer popped on HOT !. Quote
jwo1124 Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Air temps in the 20's or teens. Wind chill brings it below zero... > 8-12" of ice covering the ponds... > Those are the conditions I fret. Hell, some of your worst fishing conditions sound like ones we would pray for up here in New England. I swear, it gets soooo cold up here in Mid-Late winter that our saltwater bays look like antartica. I'll take a pic and post it later this winter. Quote
morieeel Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Well I dont have to deal with hard water.I dont mind rain.Sooo cold fronts are my bane. The bass cry like little babies around here cuz the temp dropped 5 degrees.Whaaaaaaaaa! Yep same here. Its hard to explain to friends up north that the fish are not biting because of a cold front. They then ask how cold it is (florida), and you say 70-75 degrees. ;D But its true, espcially in the shallow lake I fish. Quote
Davis Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 The cold, the wind, and the rain. Heck with that stuff. Quote
Joel W Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I fish from a rowboat (NYC reservoir rules), so high winds will keep us off the water. Other then the wind, no wind coupled with blue bird skies and 90 degrees temps make for a real slow day. But the absolute worst set of conditions is a over cast day, with light winds and you're stuck at work. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted November 30, 2007 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted November 30, 2007 Florida has the reputation of a fisherman paradise, probably true, but with a few exceptions.. 1. My son and I fished a tournament during Tropical Storm Bob, not recommended. 2. This spring the wind was out of the east at 30 mph every weekend. 3 ft chop with whitecaps was a way of life. 3. Then the wind quit completely in July and Aug leaving us with no clouds, no wind, and 95 + temps Quote
