Super User Sam Posted November 23, 2007 Super User Posted November 23, 2007 Started motor to move to another spot. Gave it full throttle and only got a lot of water splashed on me from the front of the boat as the boat tried to get on plane. Seems I forgot to take the trolling motor out of the water. Lucky for me no one saw what a dope I was. Quote
Guest muddy Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 UNFORTUNATLEY WHEN I DID THAT: RISK KID,LONG MIKE,LBH, ALPSTER, ROAD WARRIOR GLENN AND KERI ALL WERE THERE Quote
Rob G. Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Getting my boat up on plane, wondering why all the water is spraying over the bow, then noticing my trolling motor is still deployed. My most frequent one, after respooling a reel and rigging the rod after a half day of fishing I notice that I did not put the line through the level wind thingy. Quote
guitarkid Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 fishing with a 2 or more part rod and watching half the rod go straight into the water tying on your little brothers hook, then thinking it was your hook making a nice cast and watching your favorite lure witch you only have one of go into the pond all the way across, but just out of reach. fish-fighting-illini Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 1) fishing from the bank, by myself, in the dark, in November - slippery rock say no more Luckily ( last year ) it was still relatively mild for Nov 2) drove 40 mi's to the big lake only to find the gas motor was 40 mi's back in the garage due to the trolling / no gas motor only lake non fishing related 1) went across Norther border to a Wisconsin famous cheese tasting shop. Wanted to try the 40yr old aged cheese or whatever it was. Got tired of waiting 20mins for Luigi the knife guy to cut a sliver, sunk my finger nail into said cheese only to look up and see the knife weilding chef so ticked that his eyes were as red as a 3 day drunk's glaring at me Man was I a dummy on this one not sure what was goig through my head! LOL Should have brought this up before heck I would have been a Mook club member a long time ago! 2) while assembling a piece of the "put it together yourself" furniture I figured "ok not going to *****-foot this one for a change" while beating the stupid piece of wood into the hole that didn't fit well. Trouble was I forgot about the egual and opposite reaction physics lesson . The other end of the furniture was on my fairly newish tile floor! The wife didn't exactly see it my way! LOL hey was in the laundry room so not a major deal. Quote
mayassa Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 The Wife or I thread all of my guides, tie on a lure, or hook and then realize my line is on the wrong side of the bail pull the spool off open bail put spool on! Firs couple of time I cut the line redo... Stand behind my son.... He starts his cast lure sinks into my back, I yell Noooooo! he of course does not stop as sets the hook -ooch! I also left the tie downs on twice, on the boat. Drove to a fishing spot about 20 minutes from home my son and I get out get the poles I set the key down to pick up the tackle box, shut the hatch and say "crap" son asks how are we going to get home? I told him the old fashion way and don't worry about that now the fish are biting. Later that night my wife drives out to find us walking back home. Son runs track but hates to walk... Quote
nboucher Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Anybody can make a mistake once, but these I do over and over again: (1) thread the line through the guides, reach for the terminal tackle/lure and have the line slither right back down through guides (2) spend what seems like forever getting a simple Palomar knot tied, only to have it easily slip apart when I tighten it (3) drive to the pond or lake, lift the kayak off the top of the vehicle, unload rods, tackle, pfd, and drift sock, only to discover I never packed the paddle Who says we learn from our mistakes? fish-fighting-illini Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Maybe the tittle of this thread ought to have " Mook Qualifications " or " Mook Resumes" added to it! LOL Quote
EastTexasBassin Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 My favorite screw up was one I pulled a few weeks ago. (but not for the first time ) I cast out my weightless worm and a bass takes it almost immediately after it hits the water. I set the hook before engaging my reel, so it spins the spool a thousand times and makes a huge birds nest. Last time, I still landed the fish. I held the rod in one hand and pulled line through with the other hand. (kinda like using a fly rod) Quote
