Ok, so i was out freazing my butt off fishing today and began thinking back to the summer when I would haul hog bass out of the slop on a Snag Proof Mouse.  Then I figured why not go to the pet store and buy a dozen mice, nose hook 'em and toss 'em out to do their thing.  People feed them to snakes so why not fed them to bass? The only problem would be hooking the little buggers without getting tore up.  Tell me what you think

Only use live mice as food for pet largemouth bass. ;)

Now that IMO would be entertaining to watch.

Do bass actually eat mice or rats anyway? I always thought the plastic baits were just gimmicks and no different from a frog bait,in which case I wonder sometimes if the bass really think its a frog or mouse?Or are they just feeding on the action.

I think I need to apologize.  A few times I have made, or rather tried to make, jokes about using live mice on this site.  I do not really condone this practice or even know that it would work, nor will I be trying it.  I did not mean to mislead anyone for real.  I figured the concept was so proposterous that it would not be taken seriously.

Please don't do it.

There are too many artificial baits to select among and that is the great part of bass fishing...figuring what to throw and what techniques to use.

If you want to use live bait, use Nightcrawlers.

You will catch something on almost every cast with a live worm.

The challenge of trying to locate and attract the bass is what makes bass fishing challenging.

That is the fun of bass fishing and when you catch a bass it is very rewarding.

No reason to injure or kill another live animal, other than for a worm, when you fish.

I use minnows, nightcrawlers, wax worms, leeches, cut up food animals for catfish etc  Mice are no different.  I don't know why its stupid, but if you can use it as bait then go ahead.  Before using them you should read the rules of your county or lake to see if they allow mice to be used as bait.  There's this bait store called "Lee's Bait & Tackle" close to Busse Woods (one I fish most of the time in IL) that actually sells mice to be used as bait.

So if you can try them out, tell me about it and maybe I'll buy some mice.  I'm only hesitant because they can get tired in the water and they're topwater exclusive since they can't breath underwater.

I dont condone the use of live mice, but hell back in the day giant bass were hooked on live ducklings amongst other cute things.  I have gotten big bass on live frogs and fake frogs, never tried mice.  Sorry i am not much of a treehugger.

I'd rather use lures...seems like they would last longer.Probably cheaper as well.

When Low Budget Hookers came to CA to visit, I tied a hook to this back and threw him into the Delta.  I didn't catch any fish?  :-?

I know this thread was a joke, but...

I occassionally feed live mice to my snakes.  I can assue you, mice can and do fight back.  Trying to hook one would surely result in a nasty bite.   Tossing one into grass or lilypads would result in the mouse climbing the tallest dry weed.

Now, in the alternative, they do sell dead frozen mice in most pet stores.  Using those might work.  Once they are thawed they are very supple and you could probably induce a nice action.  Hmmmm.....
