Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 First off, I wan't to acknowledge that there are quite a few senior members here who aren't here so much to learn anymore, but nonetheless,...are a continuous flow of info for newer or "growing" anglers. From answering repetitive questions to sharing local knowledge (doesn't happen on just any board) to actually taking members who are primarily bank anglers, out in your boats. Well,...Thanks! We really appreciate your loyalty and dedication, for real guys, thanks alot on behalf of the entire staff and all the members you have affected. With that said, I would like you all to............. Name 1 thing you learned and give props to the member you picked it up from. Quote
dink Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 The Deep-hook Removal Method with diagrams. Â A number of the regulars here posted it or links to it so I credit them in general. Â Ya'll know who you are. Â If you don't know it, LEARN IT! Â It is an invaluable trick that will save a lot of bass. dink Quote
CJ Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I've learned alot from alot of members just by reading their post. But to name a few: Dink came down earlier this year in the spring and gave me some needed confidence in jerkbaits. Chris gave me crankbait tips that I applied with great results, just by reading his informative and detailed post. Rolo gave me some great advice on offshore structure and taught me words I never knew exsisted. Whittler taught me everything about painting cranks. Sorry LBH,you said name 1 thing.I just couldn't help it.Nice thread Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Here's a simple one from Catt that's helped me a bunch fishing jigs this year. The 3 tap rule for fishing jigs Tap 1 - The bass picks up the jig Tap 2 - The bass spits out the jig Tap 3 - I smack you on the back of the head for not setting the hook on the first tap ;D ;D Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted October 1, 2007 Super User Posted October 1, 2007 I have spent countless hours staring at hydrilla and other aquatic plants wondering how to fish them. I don't wonder anymore thanks to Catt. Chris helped me gain confidence in Cranks. Fletchero, ReelMech, and Alperster helped me become a good rodbuilder before I built my first one. Randall helped me win my first tournament. I know that's more than one but I have been on here for a long time. Quote

Cliff P.S. i also learned tons of stuff from reading all the other great info here from other members Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 1, 2007 Author Posted October 1, 2007 Everyone, keep in mind that many of the replies here, especially the detailed or specific ones, are things that are coming off the top of someones head. These "1" thing(s) are things that have brought many anglers to a whole new level  This is like a "best of..." if you will so if you are here to learn, listen up.  Quote
Guest muddy Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 LBH: For the Vid on Jigging and Avid for coaching me Honorable mention: ReelMech For Baitcaster set up 101: hugely important for helping me learn how to Bait Cast. RW: for teaching me to switch from regular Trigg hooks to EWG hooks for Trick Sticks: More hookups Oh and Brent(Aluuring) and LBH: How to trim a boat and use a foot controled trolling motor Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 1, 2007 Super User Posted October 1, 2007 What I've learned aint got much to do with fishing but rather friendship. the_muddy_man: Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning. Quote
frogtog Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 RW's post put me on the Fat Ika and ewg hook. I have picked up a little pocket change with that bait. I have also learned to spell a little better. ( Not perfect just a little better) I have learned how to type with two fingers ( This has really impressed the wife) And I have almost learned not to let my mouth over run my brain. Oh yea I still don't know were to put these little things ( ' . ! ? : ; ) any help would greatly appreciated. Quote
slomoe Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 reelmech-for teaching me how to spool a reel. I know its simple but it helped big time especially since the guy selling me the reel couldn't answer my question. Quote
nboucher Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 LBH, for teaching me about Lake Fork and for introducing me to Art Pasley, who taught me to keep it simple, and who introduced me to southern hospitality. (I think Art is a BR member.) To all the guys (and gals) on the BR Lake Fork trip, who taught me that, even though I usually fish alone, I am also in great company. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 1, 2007 Super User Posted October 1, 2007 Jig fishing. For the past ten years most of my fishing with artificial lures has been predominately soft plastics. I have been focused on the jig for two years and in the last month or so finally "arrived." #2 Swimbaits. Although I have not advanced to the big baits, the smaller plastics (Mattlures Baby Bass and Storm Lures) have produced both size and numbers. Â Quote
Panamoka_Bassin Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 The most important thing I've learned can't be attributed to any one person here since I've heard so many say the same thing: Â When using soft plastics, go slow...and whe you think you're going slow enough, slow it down even more. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted October 1, 2007 Super User Posted October 1, 2007 My favorite thing would be Catt's post on fishing milfoil, and how Tommy Martin fished his jigs in this stuff. Â Quote
SimonSays Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 The entire forum for turning me on to soft plastics, and how to set a hook properly RW for his simple but effective method to senko and ika fishing Sam for his uncanny knowledge of the richmond area and many others I can't think of right now Quote
jeremyt Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I have learned a lot in the past few months that I have been here and have gotten a lot of advice from many knowledgable people. The thing that sticks out in my mind the most and I will try not to mis quote it is the words of the great LBH. Atleast he is the first I ever heard say it. " The thing with bass fishing is that you can read, read, read until you are blue in the face but until you get out there and try some of the stuff, they are just words." How true is that. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted October 1, 2007 Super User Posted October 1, 2007 i'd like to give thanks for all the folks in the fishing gear forum (specially you reelmech!) for helping me through my process of finding the right rod and reel i love my citica and im sure i will love my allstar when i purchase it Quote
Guest avid Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Oooooooooooooooh, Â so much. Ok Chris................Very generous with his knowledge about many aspects of bass fishing, especially crankbaits. Fish Chris. Â Made a swimbait believer out of this Florida basser George Welcome - topwaters in general and the chug bug in particular. Â Anytime is a good time to try it. RW - Many recommendations. Â But his Fat Ika posts are BassResource.com classics LBH - cool guys can have huge hearts Muddy - friendship over rules geography. Everytime. Long Mike, FourBizzle, Basshunter 69, Red Torpedo, West palm dude, new2bass, and more. Â Old friends and new friends are what make bassresource.com the absolute best. Â Â BR>COM ROCKS Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted October 2, 2007 Super User Posted October 2, 2007 Crankbaits. Â They were the first lure I ever used, but one of our members, Chris, showed me just how effective they can be. I've also learned that there's still good people out in the world, thanks to BR! THANKS ! Quote
Super User David P Posted October 2, 2007 Super User Posted October 2, 2007 I've learned something from so many people on these boards it's impossible to just name one, or 3 or 10. If you've taught me something, you know who you are, and thanks! I will mention Roadwarrior just because I bug him on a daily basis about rods, and he's been right on track with rod suggestions. I love my 844C GLX , thank you RW. Also, Fourbizz, has given me great advice on rods / reels, and cali fishing! AintTexan has given me the most in depth, descriptive, and just flat out incredible advice on fishing a jig. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted October 2, 2007 Super User Posted October 2, 2007 Of the many tips I've picked up here that have refined my fishing skills, the one that has helped me the most was roadwarrior's post on fishing senkos for beginners. I had zero success with senkos before that post. I now consider senkos (or ***) my skunk busters. Thanks RW. Falcon Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 2, 2007 Super User Posted October 2, 2007 My goodness. Way too much stuff to list. From George Welcome to Catt to Avid to the Reel Mechanic to Glen and the moderators to all the guys who have offered advice it is just too much stuff to give any one person credit. Every post is informative, even if you do not agree. I have fine tuned my fishing so much that there is no way to thank everyone, individually. Keep on posting, guys; just keep on posting! Quote
JCrzy4Bass Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Sam, Basspro48, Dominion Dan and btlva for their help on starting off fishing for smallies. From spots on the Rapidan, Rappahannock, and James to baits as far as tubes, senkos and topwater plugs go. These guys gave me invaluable information that has helped me tremenduosly. I have caught almost 10 smallies in my first 3 outings and landed my pb 1lb 13 oz smallie my last time out and a 1lber at the James the time before. I really had no clue how to get started with this stuff and these guys helped me learn a couple of things that would allow me to start off and be able to catch off the bat. These guys even told me how to cast with current being a factor, how to retrieve, and where to look for the fish. I can't even begin to express how grateful I am. Thanks guys. Also want to say thanks to anglernfuego, one of my new fishing buds from nova that I met on here for givin' me some tips on the buzzbait and how to work it and for building my confidence up in the frog bait landing some LUNKERS at MY local pond!!! Haha. One of the biggest thanks of all goes to my dad, who I got into bass fishing on Father's Day by buying him a new quantum combo. Since then he's bought a Lowe's Fishing Boat and always comes to me first as far as spending a day out on the water with him. We've been able to talk and hang out more than we have in a long time and it's cool to know we can do that and bass it up each weekend. Thanks dad. Lastly thanks to all the mods and senior guys for making this place what it is. Â If it wasn't for you guys a lot of people probably wouldn't have hung out here as long or spent as much time as they do on here sharing information. Â This is the best forum EVER!!! Quote
Super User grimlin Posted October 2, 2007 Super User Posted October 2, 2007 RW on the rod action and how to choose which one i need for which bait.Matter of fact,i try to go back to it every now and then to refresh it in my memory. Quote
