What's an off-season?  Even though I'm in Kansas, I fish year around.  Because of my job I fish more from September through March than I do in the summertime.  Usually make several trips to Texas (beginning this Sat.) through March.  Will fish a bunch of strip pits in the winter as well as a couple of power plant lakes, each of which is about an hour from here.

I too am out between nov. - apr. and it seems like forever. Last year i bought an air brush and played with that on about 35 old/ugly baits. That is a lot of fun. Fortunately i've been buying lures for 30 years so i have alot to choose from. Cleaning reels, tackle boxes, making spinnerbaits, and playing bass fishing2 on my Sega (with rod controller) satisfies most of my hunger. Well, that and staying warm....

I live in PA and alredy ordered the complete first season of The Bass Pros to help ease the pain.  Other than that i read all i can, flip and pitch in the snow, reorganize my box 10 or 15 times, and any onther fishing related thing i can.

I'd like to try ice fishing, but I don't really want to buy all that equipment, and it sure doesn't compare to casting far into certain places and playing with your lure.  I'm hoping that the weather gets so weird that there isn't snow in my place and if there had to be it would all rush up and gather like a week before x-mas, during the week of x-mass, and the week after x-mas and after that it would be just warm enough to wear a sweater.  What would I do if I can't fish?  Right now I'm planning on buying a new rod, reel, braided line, fluorocarbon, and a whole bunch of new lures.  Everybody does planning and the planning is so fun to do when you're just researching the stuff online.  I'm also reading "In Pursuit of Giant Bass" by Bill Murphy.  That guy gets so complex on fishing for bass that some people might be turned off by it and just stick with "Big Bass Magic".

I have already watched it at least seven times.  :D

I'm about to call this season done for...I can't find anything anymore.Sure getting tired of coming out catching nothing.

Now i'll be visiting a few tackle stores for the winter....baitmonkey is rubbing it in my face a little bit.

My fishing season runs from the 1st weekend in April to the last weekend in Nov. as NYC reservoirs are closed to boats during the winter months. Dec and Jan are 6 day work weeks, so the 7th day per week is dedicated to home projects that were put on the back burner, or not finished during the fishing season. Then there is a Feb NY BASS seminar, a March trip to sunny Florida for a weeks fishing and visiting with the family who has already retired to the sunny south.

Years past the bait monkey was a major player. Now I've got my list almost done of what I need to replace, what I want to try (and what they will replace in my tackle bag), and what reels and rods I need to add and or replace as well. I make one trip to Cabela's, place my mail orders to some other companies I do business with. Clean and tune up all my reels.  Wash, clean, and polish my rods. Change hooks as needs, organize my tackle bag removing what I haven't really used or needed, etc.

What time I have left I spend on my winter hobby of painting military and fantasy figures. I also like to play Civilization IV on my computer.

I'm planning on finally starting my DVD fishing collection with a few titles.

And before I know it, it's April and it's time to go fishing again.

As with so many of my "Southern Brethren", I can fish year-round.

This past winter, other than a couple of times I had to put the boat in the shop, I had it out at least once a week. I also hit the bank at least once a week.

Last year the weather was mild and I fished until about December 15th and really started fishing again on March 15th.  In that three months I did the following:

1. Made a long Christmas list with all the rods, reels and tackle that I wanted.

2. Purchased lots of stuff from Bass Pro with Gift Certificates

3. Bought a few things at Bassarama

Went to the Ike seminar at Bassarama

Took the boys to look at boats at Bassarama

I cursed the !@#$%^&*( people that didn't get a bass tank that kids young and old like to see

4. Bought a few things at the Fredericksburg Bass show

Took the boys to see boats

Watched my oldest compete in casting contest

5. Organized all of my new and old tackle

6. Fished for a week in Central Florida in February

7. Play video games with my two boys

8. Replaced the front deck and carpeting in my boat

This year I plan on repeating steps 1 thru 7.  Hopefully I can fish into January but at some point the lake may freeze over.

Here in Mo. the only time I can't get out in winter is when the water freezes.

In South Ga. we don't have much of an off season. Things slow down a little bit, but other than the just plain uncomfortable days, the fishing is still alright. As for what to do with all that extra time, I generally spend a 6-8 weeks trying to soften up my wife for nexts year's fishing!! ;)

Last year my canal didn't freeze until the middle of January, so I was able to catch fish much later than usual. Normally I organize my tackle(about ten times), clean and lube my reels, change hooks where needed, make many trips to BPS, make a list of new things I want to try next season.

This winter I'm going to make a few more crankbaits. I've dropped a few hints that I would like an airbrush for Christmas.

I've also got DVD's ordered for bass and muskie fishing.

This year I'm going to be in Orlando for the first week of February. My granddaughter is in a dance competition, so I'll get to fish then.

Being bored, going to the fishing and boat shows. Taking a couple vacations somewhere warm. Gives me a chance to hit the gym more seeing there isnt any else to do. Watching the Lions in the super bowl :) lol, Plan to get down south at least once to fish this year.
