Save the $50 you will spend on the 5 broken Akitas and buy a 3:16 baby wake or a Mattlures Hard 'Gill.

Save $40 you will spend on 4 broken Akitas and buy a Slammer.

Save $30 on 3 broken Akitas and buy a value pack of Mattlures Baby Bass.

Save $20 on 2 broken Akitas and buy a Mattlures soft bluegill.

Save $10 and buy yourself some gas to get to the lake....

Snoopy Poles are to bass rods as Akita's are to swimbaits

Texas state record was caught on a crappie jig too.

Doesnt make me want to bring a knife to a gun fight.  Even a blind squirrel finds a nut from time to time.

Shall I recite any more "cool" cliches?    ;D

That's right, especially when it's as classic as that one.

Curious... does anyone who posted a negative comment actually own one of these lures, or are you just spreading hearsay?

I don't mean to sound like I'm attacking anyone, but it appears to me that the swimbait crowd immediately dismisses any bait that doesn't cost a small fortune.  So I'm wondering if anyone has had any first-hand experience with these lures, or are passing along rumors, or are they simply making judgements based on the price.

Educate me please.

Yes Glenn, I actually owned an Akita Swimbait. During my "Nooby" swimbait days, I used to browse eBay for cheap swimbaits.... obviously Akita's SWARM eBay constantly so I bit and bought one (http://cgi.ebay.com/-Akita-8-IN.-HAND-PAINTED-JOINTED--WOOD-SWIMBAIT--LURE_W0QQitemZ220361072547QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090213?IMSfp=TL090213123004r30521#ebayphotohosting)

It was very similar to this one

After 2 trips (Maybe a total of 3 hours thrown) the back fin had broke in half, the top dorsal fin was MIA, and the paint had 2 dime size chips taken out of it. NO.... I did throw it in rocks, timber, etc as this was an "Expensive" lure to me at the time and I took good care of it. I was very disappointed, especially with the action. It was such a tight wobble, it almost looked like the joints were stuck , also add to it the fact that it didn't swim totally upright. I've seen lures that were swam worse, but it just added to the "Suckiness" factor of this bait.

So no, I'm not just passing along rumors among the swimbait crowd, or making judgments based on price.... There are lots of great swimbaits in the $10-$20 that I would recommend in a heartbeat. This just happens to be a crap bait that I feel other members should be aware of.

I think Akita swimbaits are one of those topics that come up every month, most of us get tired of explaining why we don't like them.... now we just say they suck..... no explanation necessary!!! :D

I have never owned one.

Why?

Because I recognize cheap Chinese garbage when I see it. I could have told you the problems those baits would have before they were for sale. The exact same problems that Reaction Strike has. Because they are made by the same 8 year old kid.

That being said, I have fished a couple and seen how wonderfully they hold up. So, as an apparent swimbait snob, I can faithfully attest to the fact that yes, they SUCK.

Yep, I most certainly have as well.

The back half is in Lake X in Rhode Island.  The front half is still in Russ' little red boat.

I started throwing cheaper baits and now that I have some decent ones, it is nice to be able to let people know to save their money and buy good baits to begin with.

It's not that I dont think you will get bit on Akitas, I just think you have a much lower chance of landing ANYTHING on them because they fall apart.

I have delt with the factory that produces those baits. It is the one major factory in China that produces alot of wood swimbaits  and musky that are on the market. They are are stock factory baits that they sell to anybody. Akita is just another buyer. There are several "brands" that do this and they may have a custom color but they are all the same. They are also all the same quality. I will let you all make up your mind about the quality.
