jwo1124 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I figured this would be a good topic. So, -How often do you fish on an average week? -How far away is "your local fishing hole"? (From your departing location) -How do you fish?(bank beater, jon boat, bass boat) Mysellf, I like to get out once a week for a good 4-5 hours and see what's going on. Usually this is Sunday mornings. I'll wake up around 6 when its still dark, hit dunkin donuts, and get to the water by 7 am the latest. I'll usually fish until noon or one trying a couple ponds within a 1/2 mile of each other. This is because Mon-Fri my bro and I go to college, and between our two class schedule, and one car, its hard to find a solid block of time thats worth driving to the pond to fish. On top of that working on the weekends makes it that much more difficult to find time to hit the water. Plus I am staying with my aunt about 25 minutes away from where I fish. I used to live 10 minutes away. On top of this I try to get out one more time during the week for a solid 2-3 hours. Like today I'll probably fish for a few hours this afternoon/evening before the sunsets. Quote
Davis Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Right now I'm only fishing maybe once or twice a week. Summer time it's at least 4 times a week if not more. My four main spots are all equal distance away from me. It's great to be smack dab in the middle of everything. Pretty much a 10 minute drive to all of them. Fish from the shore if I only have a couple hours but I will bring my raft with me if I plan on fishing for more than two hours. Quote
tntitans21399 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I got my boat in Jan. 2007 and as soon as it was warm enough I have gone to the lake about 1-2 times a week (mainly sat. & sun.). Â I usually hit the water about 10-11 or so, and I stay out their until I'm ready to come back in. Â I have stayed out until 3am doing some night fishing. Â I usually stay on the average from 10-6pm, not prime fishing time but still fun. Â I just love to be out on the water. Â I'm going to keep doing this until it's just to cold, but I'm going to get some winter hunter cloths so I can try some winter fishing. The two lakes I go to are about the distances from me. Â It is about a 40 minute drive, it's not bad since most places it take 30 minutes to get around the town. Â One is a lake but more like a river, depths are about 30-less feet and you have to stay in the channel when driving. Â The other is a man made lake, can reach depths of 100ft. I go out in my 1972 16ft Terry Bass with the 55HP. Â It just about perfectly geared for fishing. Quote
KYbass1276 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I used to go every chance I got but this year I have only been 20 to 25 times  if that.  The last time I went was labor day weekend.  I need to go but finding time is a issue anymore Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 25, 2007 Super User Posted October 25, 2007 I fish year around. At least a few hours every week at local ponds, four or five "big trips" during the year and most Saturdays on the Tennessee River. On average, probably 40 hours of some type of fishing every month. Quote
RobbyZ5001 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 During the summer I went every day for 3 weeks. I either went with my boat started at 6am-12pm on days off. When I had work I fished from 4-8 or 7-11. Switched between bass fishing, trout, catfish. Quote
Cory20 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 This summer 3-4 times a week. Â Mostly after work in a little jon boat with an electric motor. Â The two lakes that I fished the most were close by. Â One is 15 minutes and the other is 2 minutes. Now that I'm back at college there isn't a lot of time or near by places to fish. Â I try to go once a week, usually making a day trip on sundays. Quote
armesjr Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 When the weather is nice i usually fish 3-4 times a week, for a total of about 15 hours a week. Â I typically fish from the bank, wade in the river, float in a kayak, or take out a small jon boat. Â Based on time constraints i would drive upwards of an hour, or just simply go fishing in my back yard. Â Now that hunting has kicked up (deer, duck, dove, goose), i switch gears and do very little fishing, except for a couple trips to do some striper fishing. Quote
Fish Chris Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I think "how many hours a week" would be more telling. I only fish 3 days a week, but usually anywhere from 30 to 36 hours. In the Summer, with longer sunlight hours, sometimes more. As a matter of fact, I just got done with 36 hours on the water, in the last 3 days.... But now that I'm back to work, I can catch back up on my rest :-) Fish Quote
Super User grimlin Posted October 25, 2007 Super User Posted October 25, 2007 1-2 days a week, usually 2-5 hours when i'm out there. Usually it's on the weekend(sat and sun.) in the morning till afternoon. If there's a day off for me somewhere during my job,i'll try to sneak in a couple of hours there.I don't like being away from my family for too long, this is the only time i can really fish. Quote
bass109 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 i fish about 2-3 days now. I spend all day fishing on those days. I caught all my fish on the bank and never used a boat but all in all its never enough :'( Quote
RAINCLOUD36 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 8-) I usually fish 35 - 45 hours a week mostly on weekends. I'd go more but the closest good bass lake is about 1 hr. from me. All my fishing is done from my Nitro bass boat. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted October 25, 2007 Super User Posted October 25, 2007 I'm retired now, so I have the luxury of fishing whenever I've a notion to hook up the boat. However, beliefs to the contrary, when you get to be my age, the old bones don't want to co-operate the way they use to about 20 years ago. Consequently, if the weather if OK, I can usually hit the water 2 or 3 times a week - as long as I take my Tylonol  . Not sure what that equates to in hours though? My goodness, I've always fished until I was no longer having fun. Never measured it in HOURS!  Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 This past year from late spring until early fall I fished a couple hours after work everyday during the week from shore at a bunch of little ponds in my area, and on the weekends I'd either take the canoe and Minn Kota out and travel 30 mins to an hour to better lakes or I'd go out in a friend's boat. Â A full day on the water was around noon 'til after dark, or dawn to around 2 pm. Â For a while I was going night fishing for 3 hours or so 3-4 times a week. Â Now that it's getting chilly, I'm either chasing smallies in NH on the weekends or nightfishing for schoolie stripers along coves on the CT river, from shore. Â I need to get a boat next spring. But to answer the question, when there's not ice on the water, I probably average 5 times a week, even if it's for an hour or two (I'm young and don't have any real commitments yet...). Quote
rondef Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I really just got back into fishing late last spring after many years of not fishing. Â It feels great to be back in a grove going lmb fishing. Â I plan on fishing all year through the up coming winter and then back into the spring. Â I am hoping to keep my boat going as late into the year as possible. Â Once I winterize the boat I will fish from shore until I put my boat back in the water in the spring. Â I try to fish at least two or more times a week so long as the wife does make plans for us. Quote
JCrzy4Bass Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I try and get out at least twice a week depending on weekend plans and if I can convince the wife to go fishing with me. Â She loves catfishing. Â Anyway, I work nights every fourth week so I fish every single morning that week and then all day friday because those weeks I cover Saturdays instead. Â So I'd say on average between 10-15 times a month lol. Â I'd go every day if time would allow, but I do the spend the time with the wifey thing and take care of stuff around the house too, not to mention spend time with friends. Â I like where I'm at with my fishing schedule. Â Tell you what I've been out lately this week on rainy days and it's starting to get a bit cold so I can't imagine fishing too much in the winter. Â And I'm not a big fan of trout fishing so I'd imagine it will be a lot less in the off season/winter. Quote
jwo1124 Posted October 25, 2007 Author Posted October 25, 2007 Seems like we're all real fishaholics  I was out today for a couple hours. The water temp got colder. I was fishing from shore at a spot where I have caught lots of trout on powerbait and all my broodstock salmon. I started casting a 1/4 kastmaster hoping to hook up with a rainbow or brown. I think the upper level of the water column is still a little too warm for the salmon. I ended up getting a dink bass that actually pulled nicely against my M power rod. I have caught a few dink bass over the last couple of weeks and these guys are mean lately. When I lipped him to take out the lure, I noticed he was COLD. I could tell just by feeling him that the water temp is getting lower and lower. I think these little guys are schooling up together to chase bait. They'll probably be in winter mode my mid november. No trout though. The sun was high and bright, and we all know fishing is tough in these conditions, especially from shore. Fish head deeper and hold to the bottom. Quote
FivePoundBluegill Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I must be addicted to fishing. I got out almost every day. However 90% of my outings are only for 2-3 hours at a time either early morning or late evening. Quote
Fishin-Psyantist Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I go fishing about 3 to6 times per week mostly in the afternoons and evenings. Try to spend about 2 hours a day on weekdays and 4 hours a day on weekends. I have three lakes within about 8 to 10 miles of my home. Wind direction, wind speed and the guest with me will determine which lake I go to. I just aquired a small jon boat so lately Ive been trying to concentrate on one lake trying different spots and setups. Quote
electrikal Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I fish 2-3 times a week - winter or summer. Usually 6-8 hrs on a sat. & sun. I primarily fish from my boat - it's only 5 min. to the ramp . On a wkday during the summer I get out in the evenings for a few hrs several days. I also enjoy going down below the dam from the bank if I only have a couple of hours to spare. Geez, now I see what my wife is talking about!!! Quote
johnbr19792003 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 This year I fished the most I ever have. But its still not much around 35 trips not counting ice fishing Quote
Big_Bass_Rock Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Over the summer I went 2 or 3 times a week, but in the last two months I've been out maybe 3 or 4 times  > But then again I got laid off last week, so next week I'm gonna try to go daily  ;D Quote
Super User Tin Posted October 25, 2007 Super User Posted October 25, 2007 In the average week I can fit in about 40-45 hours a week. But in the next few weeks the boss is out on Cape Cod, and no second job so I'm feeling some 65-70 hour weeks  .  Its going to be a fun couple weeks. And dont go back to college till late January, which is also whent the ice comes in. My boat is a 1997 Tracker Pro Team with a 40 horse Merc. Quote
slomoe Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 1 to 2 times a week.........unless i call out sick  : Quote
detroit1 Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 I go 35 - 50 times a year, half of those are after work, 4-5 hrs., the other half on the weekends. My favorite 4 lakes i can get my 16' deep v Grumman on the water in less than 45 minutes (from home or work). All lakes are natural and under 400 acres in size, with houses ON EVERY SQUARE FOOT OF SHORELINE! Well, not that bad but when i see some of the pictures i've seen of the waters  some of you get to fish i get a little jealous. And, i have to quit fishing in NOVEMBER, and can't get back out until APRIL! That, my fishing friends, is what i hate about fishing - not being able to go.... Quote
