darren Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Here in MO. it has been really warm untile the last week with the highs in the mid 60's and mid 40's at night.. I am heading out this weekend to fish with my uncle and was wondering....Could someone give me some insight at what water temp the bass will change from heading shallow to feed on shad vs. heading deep for the winter months...We were really wanting to fish for shallow feeding LM but didnt know if it was too late...thanks for the help darren Quote
tntitans21399 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I'm in TN and the weather has been close to yours, mid-high 60's during the day and 40's at night. The water temp on the lake is about 72, it might have gone down some this past week. My luck has been on flats near the channel, and the fish have been holding about 8-15 ft depth. So I would suggest if you wanted to try shallow areas, I would try it in a area that is right next to a channel. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted October 25, 2007 Super User Posted October 25, 2007 I'm in MA and if you are speaking about smallmouth, they tend to move toward the dams (in reservoirs or river systems) right about now. Water temps are about 60 deg. or less. The schools will bunch up more & more as the temps hit 50 degrees. And it will be like shooting fish in a barrel at 40 degrees! Quote
luckyinkentucky Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I was at Lake Malone on Monday, and it was a mix n' match. It rained all day with the average water temp holding around 62. Some of the larger fish were in shallow coves at 3' - 6', and some of the others were out in the main channel at 7' - 16'. What I would do in your situation is to power fish the shallows for a couple of hours, and then move out to the channels. You'll find a lot of them in the drop offs, and depending on the weather, sticking tight to cover. Is the water where you are fishing clear, stained, or muddy? Quote
darren Posted October 25, 2007 Author Posted October 25, 2007 Its raining right now but is supposed to clear up this weekend.. the water is pretty muddy right now and may be worse this weekend with the water runoff from the rain...Will the fish be able to see a white spinnerbait or do I need some chartruese in there? I was thinging spinnerbait and crankbait near the docks and to try to locate the baitfish..any thoughts? darren Quote
