Alfalfa hay bales for fish attractor.

Anyone here have any knowledge of using alfalfa hay bales sunk in your fav fishing spot  to attract fish.

My brother tells me a story of leaving a boat ramp one day and tying on lure just wanting to test his line and catching a fish bingo! He tried again and caught another! He and his partner never even fired the motor up and stayed right there in front of a house that was next to the ramp and caught and released about 150 bass. The fellow who owned the house finally came out and told them that he appreciated them releasing the fish and when asked about the abundance of fish around his boat dock the guy told them that he had sunk alfalfa hay bales to attract small bait fish so that larger fish would be attracted. He liked to fish with his grandkids off the dock.

Anyone ever use this kind of hay to attract baitfish.

i'd beleive it... they make those ball spike things that grow and attract fish if anyone knows what i'm rambling about

yea, I was gonna say, I saw that in the bass pro Catalogue. I was thinking about getting on for one of my favorite fishing spots.

Putting hay bales in the water is supposedly a method for clearing up a pond or lakes clarity.  How well it works I don't know.

I saw those spike habitat things also - but Bill Dance endorses them

In New York and New Jersey they put missing persons in ponds, messes with the clarity but does attract a lot of catfish

I have wired in a flake with my brush piles when I sink them.   I have no complaints about catching some nice sized bass off them.

Some ranchers put coastal hay, its alot cheaper than using Alfalfa.   By spreading them around in ponds, it acts as a filter helping clear the water up some.

Barley Straw bales are what is used to treat ponds..

not hay or alfalfa,, but they may make good structure

for a while.. I would think they would fall apart and settle flat to the bottom after time..

Just my thought..

thats cool! im gonna have to tell my buddy who owns a farm pond about that one! maybe he'll put some hay in there
