Small local pond

On friday I will be attempting to fish a small pond that I have only been to once before nobody fishes it that often but I have heard rumors from people saying they have caught nice bass there. It is small probably about 10 ft deep at the most. There is lily pads all around the shores. I have seen sunfish and small bait fish along the shores. The water is not clear and the bottom is very grassy. Any ideas how I should plan to fish this. (I'm not going out in my boat, so I will be fishing from the shore) Weather in my area in the past week has been in the 60's and will stay at this for the rest of the week. Any ideas would be helpful

I have fished a pond almost exactly like that hit the edges of the pads with your favorite senko/senko color rigged weedless

Try a topwater frog in all black..i have sucess with that in a small pond near me that is very grassy and dont be afraid to throw it in the nasty looking stuff.

PS-The Spro Bronzeye Jr is the best topwater frog ive used

For lily pads I'd use soft plastics fished over, around and through the pads, letting them sink into holes and at the edges. Also weedless topwaters are often productive. Hollow-bodied frogs like Boett43 mentioned plus some of the buzzing frogs and toads for a faster presentation. Another thing to try with those buzzers is cast beyond the pads if you can, buzz them back and kill them right at the outside edge.

Frogs over the cover; buzzbaits and Kreatures around the edges (up top); Fat Ika, Senko and tubes on the bottom. If you are comfortable with a jig, that's another option!

kudos on the senkos, i hit a similar pond where i never see anybody fishing, yet it's right in town almost. I felt wierd fishing it till the bass started rockin my bait then traffic started slowing as i was bringing in some descent size bass.  It works sweet if you let it flutter weightless and then let it sit with tension and wait for the strike (that is if you have the will power  ).

Tritz, where in Mass. are you? I'm in Sharon, and fish a nearby 20-25 acre pond frequently, often with great success.

Given the temps predicted for Friday in our area, I would definitely start with a horny toad over those pads. But if they're not in a topwater mood, I'd switch fairly quickly to Senkos or any other soft plastics you like, and then to jigs at the edge of or just out from the lily pads.

If the bottom is indeed grassy, the big ones could be deeper in that grass. You might try a wacky-rigged Senko in the deeper grass, or, one of my favorites this year, a lizard t-rigged below a 3/16-oz weight. If the pond is small, I would try working all of it and not restricting myself to the edges. With the water cooling down, the bass may not be as tight to those pads as they might have been in July, when the water there might have been more inviting.

If you're not having any luck at all, consider switching to a c-rig with something like a baby brush hog. This will allow you to feel any contour changes along the bottom, which is where some of the big ones might be hanging out. (I'm assuming you don't have a depthfinder.)

Hey nboucher I live in Carlisle its right next to concord and about 40 min away from boston. I will be trying all of these suggestions thanks everyone. But sad to say my fishing trip to this pond has been postponed to saturday afternoon/ evening  

But saturday I will be fishing a bigger pond in the morning with my canoe and then off to the small pond in the afternoon, A day of all fishing I love it  ;D

Well my fishing trip in the morning was somewhat of a success got a couple of nice 2-3 pounders. But then fishing off the shore at the small pond I got nothing, saw lots of fish from the shore but didn't catch any of them. Tried everything senkos, jigs, crank baits, spinner baits evern threw out the old spoon. And a strange thing happened to me after a couple of casts I got  strike then all of a sudden my line broke (I was using 20 pound test). No idea how that happened. But next weekend i'm fishing the bigger pond in a canoe hope to have more success before winter sets in
