Super User fourbizz Posted September 21, 2007 Super User Posted September 21, 2007 I have access to about 10 ponds in the immediate area here. They are all pretty much dink farms, but I have half a dozen fish over 5 out of them the last year or so. Today I went to one of my favorite ones. It is only about a mile from my house, is full of violent 2-3 lbers, and I am the only one who fishes it...in the last 7 years! It is TINY though! about 100ft X 125ft. Its a pretty cool place to blow an hour or so, the fish are chunky and VERY MEAN! On the way there, I drive by the neighbors house, which has a nice little 40ft X 200 ft pond that looks fishy. I ask the homeowner of where I normally fish about the other pond that I am always driving by. She says she will call the lady next door and ask her if I can fish there too! She comes back and says that the little old lady said yes, come on over. SWEET! another new pond! I drive over past the pond in front of her house and talk to the old lady and she says right away. " There is only one thing I ask: No catch and release" ......ok.... "Why?" I inquire. " Because those dang bass are always eating my baby ducks and geese"... JACKPOT!!!!!. At this point, I look out her back window and see it...the "other" pond.... 5+ acres of the bassiest lookin crap you have ever seen. Floating docks, downed timber, overhanging trees, tulies, vertical posts in deep water, islands, rock piles, bluegill dimpling all over,....... H E A V E N !!!! She goes on to tell me just how many baby ducks she loses a year, she saw 23 get eaten THIS YEAR! And those are just the ones she has seen! She has duck and goose houses comepletely surrounding the place, probably 20 or 30 of them. Only problem being, I have been asked to not release the fish. I took my 3:16 Baby Wake out and started chucking. Third cast, WHACK! 2.5 lber I somehow manage to "lose" him after my line somehow goes slack for about 15 seconds right at the shore Today was POST FRONTAL, and I still had 5 fish blow up on the baby wake, no real big ones, but under those conditions i think 5 swimbait bites in an hour is pretty f'n sweet! I shook them all off, so no pics. I have been given an open invitation to come as I please and use her little 12' jon boat. I will be returning soon with my battery and trolling motor, when it is storming and catch a real good fish. There is a toad in there, I know it, and she will be mine, oh yes, she will be mine! I'm STOKED! Quote
CJ Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Man the no c&r sucks.Gotta be a good pond! Hope you get that biggun'! Maybe try taking a duck call and blowin' it in the water to chum up the big momma! (just playin') Catch her, take the pic, then all of a suddden she jumps outta your hands, back in the water to eat some more ducklings.Good Luck!I would be stoked too! Quote
Mattlures Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Biz I recomend you keep a few smaller fish each time you go. That way she thinks you are helping her. If you never keep a fish she will know that you are not following her only rule. If it makes you feel any better, most ponds need some harvesting to promote big bass. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted September 21, 2007 Author Super User Posted September 21, 2007 I thought the same thing matt, But we both know that you probably shouldn't eat fish from some old pond. What I will end up doing, is taking a few fish from that pond, by cooler, to another pond. The one that I will be taking them to, had a huge die off last year due to low water levels and high heat. It is fed by a well, and isolated downstream. I don't want to kill fish, so that is my plan. I really feel like this is one of those ponds that could actually kick a legitimate DD. I'm excited! Of course, if I catch a really big fish, it will go back to its home NO MATTER WHAT! Quote
Branuss04 Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Sounds like roadtrip time for me. D**m, I wish I didn't turn flat-landerish and still lived up the hill. Is it off of Cherry Acres or the one across from 2nd gate? Way to go buddy. Give me a call if you need a fishing buddy rain or shine. Quote

Super User T-rig Posted September 21, 2007 Super User Posted September 21, 2007 Great story man and the idea of moving the fish to another pond is what I would do as well. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted September 21, 2007 Super User Posted September 21, 2007 This should get the big boys looking Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 21, 2007 Super User Posted September 21, 2007 Gold mine! That's REALLY special. 8-) p.s. A pond that has basically never been fished is most likely overcrowded. I suspect it would be best for you and the pond to keep ALL the small fish. Quote
LooksLikeSinbad Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 This should get the big boys looking Or just hang a treble off of this: Quote

jwo1124 Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 I saw a similar post...but you may want to try this http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod-wrapped.jsp?id=0031286&navCount=1&parentId=cat20344&masterpathid=&navAction=push&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat20344&parentType=index&indexId=cat20344&rid= it's not your typical bass lure, but it could work wonders especially given the circumstances of all the baby ducks getting eaten.
