nec237 Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 I fish or sould i say i wet my lures at a local pond here in atlanta for the last 3 months for about two hours a day and 4 hours on the weekends and have not caught anything but a suntan. i know i just have to get that first one out the way and the rest will be easy but until that happens it just sucks. i tryed top waters, buzz, spinners, t-rigs, c-rigs, and nothing has worked. can someone please come here and prove me worng. i cant ask the locals because i never see anyone fishing here( maybe thats a hint lol) but the pond is a nice size and walking distance for my house. maybe someone knows how i can get it stocked and it will be my little secret. of course i will tell you guys ;D. please some one put me out of my misarie Quote
stilldontlikeyou Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Yeah it sounds like it :-/ I have a large pond near my house as well, and haven't caught anything except a turtle. I then tried fishing for catfish and nothing as well. I usually goto a pond/canal/lake whatever right before sundown when the bugs are hitting the surface and most of the time you will see the fish feeding on them, and/or jumping out of the water every now and then. It works for me. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 17, 2007 Super User Posted September 17, 2007 Nope, it ain't gonna work. Find somewhere else to fish. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 17, 2007 Super User Posted September 17, 2007 Your pond. The only water I have ever fished for more than four hours without a bite is the concrete pond in my backyard. Sometimes, at night and after a couple of beers, I think I get a bite there, too. : Find somewhere else to fish. Quote
koko36265 Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Have you had any bites at all? Any indication that there could be bass in there? If not I must say you have more dedication than any bass fisherman than I have seen Quote

Del from philly Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 i know what your going through, it probably looks like the best spot ever if you dont see any baitfish or sunnies id say that place is beat.... i would try live bait, baby night crawlers, and if sunnies dont even touch them then id say its a bare pond..... i always wanted to stock a pond myself, but its a lot harder than it seems..... i guess you could start netting baby bass and bream, and give it a shot, ya never know get some carp or catfish.....who knows??? Quote
nec237 Posted September 17, 2007 Author Posted September 17, 2007 I have goten what i think are bits and when i throw a spoon or the little flys with the spinners on them i can see the fish following it somethimes but no bits I know there just has to be some desent fish in there and i will keep trying untill i get something out that DAM pond LOL Quote
MemphisFisherman Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 How big is the pond? Do you know how deep it is? If it's just a small shallow pond, pull out your ultralite, put on a little beetle and try to catch some bream, if you don't get any within an hour....your pond is dead. Quote
nec237 Posted September 18, 2007 Author Posted September 18, 2007 If i had to guess i would as about 7-10 acres and it is very low usually there is a island in the middle but now i can walk to the island and everything that was underwater when pond is full has a lot of old spwaning beds average 10" wide so i know something is making the beds i WILL get fish out of there. even if my wife threatins to leave me because if there to much LOL ;D Quote
Davis Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I was the same way with one of the local ponds. My wife kept asking me why I kept going back there. Same mindset as you.....its almost like a challenge. I ended up pulling out some nice LM here towards the end of the summer. So stick with it..........BUT and I mean BUT, don't have this as your main spot. You will go insane. I'm lucky enough to have a bunch of fishing ponds/small lakes/ creek at my disposal. Make short hour long trips when your bored or only about an hour of daylight left. That was my ticket. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted September 18, 2007 Super User Posted September 18, 2007 Have you seen ANYTHING in the water? Any fish, frogs, tadpoles, minnows? Anything? Quote
Davis Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Have you seen ANYTHING in the water? Any fish, frogs, tadpoles, minnows? Anything? I think I read somewhere in the thread that he has seen fish chasing his lure but they won't hit it. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 18, 2007 Super User Posted September 18, 2007 Go to the grocery store and buy a loaf of white bread. Go to the pond and tear up the bread and throw it out into the water. Any bream that are in the pond will attack the bread. Then you know there are bait fish in the pond. Next, go to Wal-Mart and purchase some Nightcrawlers. Use them for bait in small chunks on gold number 4 or number 6 hooks. You can also boil a pound of long grain rice and fan it out into the water using a big kitchen spoon around the shoreline and in the grass in the water. If there are minnows or small bream in the pond they will eat the rice. And so will the turtles. Come back the next day to see if the rice has been eaten. If there are baitfish then the bass can survive and maybe you need to transfer some bass into the pond from other local fishing waters. Your first goal is to find out if there are any baitfish in the pond. Your second goal is to find out if there are any bass in the pond. Your third goal is to catch and release the bass. ;D Quote

Thats why I recommend him not to give up on it. I just wouldn't spend a lot of time there. Like if somebody tells me there isn't any good fish in a body of water...........I fish it anyway for that challenge. I just don't spend time there as my main spot. That would be too frustrating. Okay, I understand what you are saying, but when the deck is stacked against you, I just think there are better alternatives to look for when choosing a place to fish. Quote

But he is seeing fish in the water. Again I wouldn't fish this place for hours on end 2-3 days a week. Myself I would fish this place for an hour once a week at different times with different lures. Again thats the competitor in me though. I like to prove people wrong. ;D Quote
