Low_Budget_Hooker Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 I just had to share this with everyone, in case some of you have not had the opportunity to see such a thing. This is what the fall is like in Narragansett Bay, RI. Wind and rough seas had me hiding the camera once we left the dock but it was an uneventful morning anyway. But, just the same, check this out BAIT Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted September 17, 2007 Author Posted September 17, 2007 Should be all set. I have a codec issue on my puter right now, could someone please test this link. Thanks Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted September 17, 2007 Author Posted September 17, 2007 This is saltwater. Those are Menheddan, also known as "Bunker". Right now, they range from 1" to 4-5", and they school by size. So cool to watch at the docks, one school of tiny ones will be coming one way and some 4 inchers coming straight at them and then they'll merge, very cool looking. I'll be down there again later today and will get some better footage. Quote
eastkybass Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Thats pretty cool. Thanks for the video. Quote
Panamoka_Bassin Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 I watched and thought, "When's he gonna throw the cast net?" Boy, I'll tell you there's no better bait for stripers than live peanut bunker. Works pretty good for fluke, too! Being that LI isn't too different or far from RI, I get to see those like that too. It's cool to watch, and even more fun when the "snappers" (baby blues) boil 'em up and start a feeding frenzy. Good stuff, LBH! Quote
slomoe Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 cool video. reminds me that I need some polarized shades.. Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted September 17, 2007 Super User Posted September 17, 2007 Pretty cool to watch all those little buggers gather up like that. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 that reminds me of a lake I fish. This time of year those threadfin do that and there is thousands of them. Cool vid LBH. Quote
Guest muddy Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Hey LBH the strippers are just showing up in the sound and the Verrazano straits now, It won't be long before they will be killin them cows off Montauk! Ive been in Brooklyn for a few days, the Bluefishing has been dead, and there lots of Bunker around! Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 17, 2007 Super User Posted September 17, 2007 Atlantic menhaden, Brevoortia tyrannus up north Gulf menhaden, Brevoortia patronus; called Pogy down south and is a multi-million dollar business Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted September 18, 2007 Author Posted September 18, 2007 Yup, we don't call them Pogies till they are full grown. BIG fertilizer business. recent legislature has re established "off limits" areas to the per seine boats and this vid is the result. Sometimes, being vocal can work. Quote
