Super User Raul Posted September 4, 2007 Super User Posted September 4, 2007 ...and went with Field & Stream instead. It seems Bassmaster magazine has gone downhill ever since the recent design change. The same articles, same advice, same everything, just reworded differently. Anyone else dissatisfied with Bassmaster? Can 't drop my subscription, paid life time membership ages ago but from being an outstanding magazine through the years it has gone into the sewer. Quote
Troutfisher Posted September 5, 2007 Author Posted September 5, 2007 I agree. They once had some quality articles, but now, it's going straight downhill. I like Field & Stream because of the variety of both hunting and fishing articles, I also like In Fisherman as well. Quote
Super User Micro Posted September 5, 2007 Super User Posted September 5, 2007 I like the In-Fisherman as well. I especially like their species-specific and seasons special editions. Quote

Super User dodgeguy Posted September 5, 2007 Super User Posted September 5, 2007 i dropped mine when they signed citgo as a sponsor bass is not what it once was.if your looking for info the internet is the place to go. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted September 5, 2007 Super User Posted September 5, 2007 You won't be sorry with Field and Stream. It's an all around magazine, with good hunting, fishing, and general outdoors info. I escpessially enjoy Bill Heavy's "A sportsman's life" Quote
Troutfisher Posted September 5, 2007 Author Posted September 5, 2007 I always enjoy Field & Stream. I've had it for a little while and I am satisfied with it. I like all the helpful tips and little things that make the magazine great. Quote
Guest avid Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 I look forward to my monthly copy of bassmaster. first - I got it on ebay. I don't remember how much I paid but it was really cheap. Never had one problem. and yes you are a member of bass with full benefits. I like the day on the lake. I like the tournament results. It's very interesting to see how guys change tactics and baits to move up the standings. I also like the ads. Nice to know what's new Uncle Homer - How can you beat that? As far as articles being rehashed well that's old news - they all do it. Quote
Spini Boys Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 I think ESPN has ruined B.A.S.S. it use to be great and so was the magazine, but know it stinks. Field & Stream is a good mag., but alot of times they seem to cater to the rich outdoorsman. I think In-Fisherman and Bassn' are my favorites fishing mags and I also like Fur Fish and Game its kind of the Redkneck outdoorsmans magazine. Quote
SENKOSAM Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Occasionally there are a few good tips regarding presentation and new lures, but I'm not sure at times what is hype and what is valid. As far as what the pros used to win, I'm convinced they would have used something totally different on my local waters, depending on conditions. I don't usually watch fishing shows for the same reasons and that started with Roland's, Jimmy's and Bill's half hour infomercials that didn't correlate to my waters at all! Seems like the best info I get is through forums such as this! Quote
michbass Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Still enjoys giving it a read over along with bass times. My club pays my dues to bass and the federaton but I would if they didnt. There isnt a magazine out there that doesnt bring back old stuff. Well non adult magazine. Quote
TopDog Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 I needed some toilet reading, so I picked up 3 year subscription for 2.99. The kids can always use it for cutting out pictures and stuff. Quote

As far as articles being rehashed well that's old news - they all do it. I agree with avid here, I find A day on the lake and the tournament info really interesting, and I don't think there is an outdoors/fishing/hunting magazine out there that doesn't reprint articles with new wording. It's not like a groundbreaking new technique or bait comes out every week and sometimes ya gotta repeat, which I don't mind and still find interesting. Quote
Troutfisher Posted September 7, 2007 Author Posted September 7, 2007 I can agree that I did like "A Day on the Lake." It was an article I looked forward too. However, I didn't want to keep paying $25 a year for one article. Quote

Guest btlva Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 I like "A Day on the Lake" too but I wish they would do it somewhere other than small private lakes in the south. I'd like to see them on some lakes with smallmouths, or maybe somewhere that gets considerable fishing pressure. I rarely read the other articles anymore. In-Fisherman is the best fishing publication ever IMHO. Quote
Troutfisher Posted September 7, 2007 Author Posted September 7, 2007 Thanks for the Ebay links, I now have a way to buy magazines. Maybe I won't cancel my subscription. I've been paying $15 and $20 a year, only to realize they're dirt cheap here. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted September 8, 2007 Super User Posted September 8, 2007 Every once in while bassmaster produce a new article like latest gears that coming out, a day on lake are alway new, tournament results, those are things I love to read. Quote
Troutfisher Posted September 9, 2007 Author Posted September 9, 2007 Well, I just bought a 2 year subscription off of Ebay. Thanks for the link, guys. I'll stay with them another 2 years and see what happens. Quote
Trent, B Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 I agree Bassmaster has the same stuff week after week. Quote
