George Welcome Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Jimmy is alive and well if you are talking about the fly fisherman in Missouri. If you are talking about Jimmy Rogers, Tenn. guide and host of Tenn. outdoors - he is alive and well also. Quote
JayW Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Wow! I guess there area lot of Jimmy Rogers out there! I was talking about the one who had a show that was very popular in the Tampa Bay area back in the 80's maybe even late 70's. He was usually fishing a Polk County phosphate pit and Bagley's was his sponsor. I did find this article which was about him: EX-CLASSIC QUALIFIER DIES. Two-time Bassmaster Classic qualifier Jimmy Rogers died Friday at a Tampa hospital where he was being treated for heart vessel disease. He was 63. Rogers, a 20-year host of a Florida fishing show, was granted a new lease on life in 1990 when he received a heart transplant after nearly dying from congestive heart failure. He rebounded and lived a full life until his heart was weakened by attacks in May and July. Rogers, who was recently inducted into the Polk County Sports Hall of Fame, is survived by Rachel, his wife of 41 years, as well as a daughter and granddaughter. Quote
gajpb Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Ok, I can't believe I;m admitting this, but for pure entertainment I like that Beat Charlie Moore Show. He's so annoying it's funny and he actually has a good personality for that kind of show. As far as learning something--I would go with Bill Dance, Roland Martin (although he bugs me too), and Hank Parker. Quote
Big T Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Saltwater fishing I like Flip Pallot's show and The Spanish Fly with Jose' Wejebe', freshwater I like The Bass Pros and I use to like Jerry McKinnis. Shaw Grisgby and Roland Martin use to be okay but their shows have turn into 30 minute infomercials. Big T Quote
Super User RoLo Posted July 12, 2007 Super User Posted July 12, 2007 The only freshwater fishing shows that I actually look forward to watching are the "In-Fisherman" and "Lindner's Angling Edge". The In-Fisherman has been televised from 1979 to date, so it certainly stood the test-of-time. Though Al and Ron have sold to Primedia in 1998, Doug Stange does a great job, but of course he's got an impossible act to follow. Like everything else the Lindner brothers do, their latest venture, "Lindner's Angling Edge" involves top-notch photography, trophy-class fish and is chockfull of information. I believe that Lindner's Angling Edge is only aired on OLN (versus), but it might be cheaper just to buy the Angling Edge DVDs instead of subscribing to Versus ($30/mo). Oh wait a minute, but then you would miss Ted Nugent and his paintball gun : Roger Quote
George Welcome Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Fogot about that Jimmy: he was from Lakeland. Quote
jdw174 Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 I only fish for bass.....occasionally bream.....so I don't really care to watch shows related to walleye, carp, northern, catfish, etc.... Of the bass fishing shows, I don't want to watch "home movies" or shows with "special guests", or infomercials. I want to actually LEARN something from these shows. In this vein, the best show on the tube right now is "The Bass Pros". (Keep it coming BPS). Sadly missing are the Larry Nixon and Denny Brauer shows :'( I enjoyed Bill Dance when he used to travel to different lakes and wasn't a half-hour informercial. I refuse to watch Roland......period! I like Strike King lures, but their "Pro Team" is good only occasionally. I also like UMF. For the tour shows, I'll take BassMasters over FLW anyday. FLW spends far too much time on flashbacks, tours of the city, and if someone catches a fish you get views of the same fish from several different cameras (can't stand the "cap camera" > ) Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 14, 2007 Super User Posted July 14, 2007 Oh so we gonna throw some salt Norm Isaacs & The BXRL; you want to play with the big boys? Flip Pallot's THE CALL OF THE WILD; got to be the most layed back guy on planet earth The Spanish Fly with Jose' Wejebe'; the guy is just cool Quote
Super User RoLo Posted July 15, 2007 Super User Posted July 15, 2007 The Spanish Fly with Jose' Wejebe'; the guy is just cool In the saltwater court I've been watching Jose grow old Which reminds me, what happened to the mogan man, Blair Wiggins (addictive fishing)? Quote
Big T Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Blair Wiggins' show is still on. It just started aring again on Fox Sports South a couple weeks ago. He is fishing the FLW Redfish tour as well. This guy is cool I forgot about him. I also like the Sportsman's Adventures with Captain Rick Murphy, however sometimes he can be annoying. Big T Quote

It's funny, but I can relate to your opinion of Rick Murphy (too much time on the water?) Then of course there's "Mark Sosin", a highly knowledgeable, tough ole salt that's been around a looong time Roger Quote
Big T Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 That's a name I have not heard in awhile. I use to watch his show when it was on the Nashville Network with Shaw Grigsby, Roland Martin and Bill Dance. Big T Tony Quote
tritz18 Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 I like Bassmasters on espn and Bill Dance shows Quick question is there any specific channel that is all fishing? Quote
Guttboy Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Any and all! Although I do get a bit annoyed at all the sponsor plugs (hey they have to have the show paid for right?) but I will get over those. We used to play a game a while back in my younger days that you had to drink whenever anyone said "NICE FISH"....You'd be amazed at how much beer you can put back in an episode. My wife had a different version....you had to change the channel whenever they said "NICE FISH"....I didnt like playing her version much....LOL Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 I really like just about any on bass fishing.I really like to watch "The Bassmasters" on Elite Series events(especially when KVD does well). Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 I like most all of them except Scott and Roland Martin. I watch them anyway but they get on my nerves. Shw Grigsby is a great guy I'm sure but I don't need all the screaching and stuff. In Fisherman, Babe Winkelman, Bass Pros, Wisconsin Waters and Woods, Bill Dance, Hank Parker all of them can't watch them enough. ( You hunters are statin to tick me off ! ). Used to be a show on when I was a teenager had an older guy on who always wore a hat. He reminded me and looked a lot like my grandfather and I still have Gramp's Johnson reel. He promoted Johnon products a lot who was he & or the show? Now that I think about it we kind of get ripped off I think. TV shows sell commercials to make money so do fishing shows. But espec the Martins's & shaw etc lay it on thick during the show. Do they really need to do that when advertisers already pay for commercials? They ought to be commercial free! Quote
BassHunter69 Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Sorry if I sound too negative but I used to get up at 3:30 am on Saturday morning when I was in elementy school to catch the fishing shows because they were brodcast on east coast time and I am in California. I grew up loving these shows and to see what they have turned into just really bothers me. But maybe they were always like this and I was just too young to notice back then. LOL i thought i was the only one who ever did that - my dad once ran downstairs to "catch me" watching something else but he saw it was just a fishing show. I still got in trouble ;D dang it i still had the same problem but my dad for all his fluster was secertly proud of me for watching fishing and leaving his playboy channel alone ;D i swear the ole swede would sit and watch em with me Quote
