Super User roadwarrior Posted August 8, 2007 Super User Posted August 8, 2007 Depending on where you live, you have probably caught some spots (Kentucky bass) and just didn't know it. To the casual observer, they look just like a largemouth bass. Quote
Cigarlover 1 Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Largemouth, Smallmouth, Spots, White Bass and have caught several Rock Bass this summer. Still haven't caught any stripers yet. Of course, I have gone fishing for them yet either. : Quote

So far this year I've caught largemouth, smallmouth, stripers, spots, and wipers. I haven't stumbled upon a white bass yet. Quote
Shad_Master Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Interesting question: over the course of this season I have caught a speckled bass (my partner called it a crappie) and a wiskered bass (my partner called it a cat fish) -- neither one counted though ;D Quote
Infidel. Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 HEY CIGAR; Aren't Rock bass juvinille strippers? I believe they are. This is a real Rock Bass. Rock Bass is a local term for Striper in some parts of the country but it is like calling a Bowfin a mudfish, it is not the real name. As for me I have caught Largemouth, Smallmouth, Striper, White Bass, and rock bass in fresh water. In saltwater I have caught Sand Bass, Calico Bass, Spotted Bay Bass, and White Sea Bass. Quote

armesjr Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Yeah most people in VA use the striped bass and rockfish interchangeably. Quote
Taliesin Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 So far this year I have managed largemouth, smallmouth, spotted, meanmouth (various hybrids of the previous three), white bass (also called sand bass in OK and TX), and hybrids (also called wipers). We don't have stripers in my lakes, so I haven't got them yet. Quote
GeorgiaSpotSticker Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 A good way to identify spots to the untrained eye is fell their tongue. They have a patch of teeth on their tongue. LM's and SM's do not. Quote
Cigarlover 1 Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Infidel's got it. That's the Rock Bass I was talking about. Quote
