We talked about almost every possible scenario there is but this one; I've made plans to head up to Toledo Bend Friday & Saturday for some night fishing. Problem hurricane Dean as of now is projected to make land fall some where south of Brownsville, Texas.

Bring Avid out with you, give him a Ben Franklin Hat and a kite; KIND OF LIKE AN EPISODE OF YOU WERE THERE

Avid on Toledo Bend now that's funny; but seriously being from Florida he might have an idea on fishing high winds, rain, quick changing conditions.

I shouldn't be much harder than fishing at full throttle in the rain and who hasn't done that? Finesse fishing might be a problem, but if you use reaction baits and maybe upsize a little, I think you'll do OK.  Oh, and maybe wear a helmet and install seatbelts, too.

Good luck Catt, and stay safe. I hope the trip up the gulf doesn't build that hurricane up even more. I just can't imagine dealing with hurricanes like you guys do in the gulf regions like Fla, Tx, Al and such. I would be terrified. I was along the Eastern Shore in MD years ago Flounder fishing and was just swiped by one along the VA coast. The winds were only 60-75mph and I was in the motel scared sh******. I thought for sure the roof was going to come off. The tide was very high and water was coming into the lobby. The winds in the 150mph range like you all get would have me in a state of shock. :o

I've made reservations for Friday & Saturday but if this sucker changes direction so will we.

500 AM AST SAT AUG 18 2007

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 150 MPH...240 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER

GUSTS. DEAN IS A CATEGORY FOUR HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON

SCALE. SOME STRENGTHENING IS POSSIBLE DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS. AN

AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT IS SCHEDULED TO REACH

DEAN IN A FEW HOURS.

I'm planning on doing some hawg hunting both nights and fully expect rain, winds, cloud cover, & low barometric pressures. Depending on winds we plan on fishing Texas Rigs, Carolina Rigs, & Jig-N-Craws; a possibility of trying a swim bait.

I am so above responding to the insults that I refuse to dignify them with an answer.

Yo Catt, you have nothing to worry about.   With the conditions you predict the authorities  will close all access.

I don't know the area but if it were Florida they would order an evacutaion.

Oh, muddster.

Keep an eye out for the photo's of you and Boy George walking hand in hand into the mens room at CBGB's

Love ya brother   8-)

If Dean permits, my wife and I are going up Sunday afternoon for three nights of fishing in the moonlight!

We'll try one of those honey holes that you took me to.

t bend tex; Welcome home dude, we'll be at Sportsman's Friday   ;)

This will be an interesting trip because I'm fishing with one of my old tournament partners that I haven't fished with since 1978 when we set the lake record for a 15 bass stringer at 72.78 lbs. We will even be fishing out of his 1977 Skeet Wrangler which has been garage kept since 1980, is that cool of what.

My best advice Catt is to bring a portable radio and keep it tuned to the "all news" or closest local station.

Keep scanning the horizon for signs of the storm blowing in.

Do not wait till you can feel it.  Depending on how far from the ramp you are, it could be too late, especially with other boaters doing the same thing.

also, if you do get caught in a sudden blow up.  Head for the nearest leeward shore and run er aground.  Lash the boat down the best you can then find some high ground and hunker down.

I urge you NOT to wait that long.

but if you do - would you mind video taping it?  .......cool

Catt, that is real cool. Fishing out of a 77 should bring back some memories for sure. Remember the state of the art bass boats back then. If you had a 115 on the back it was a screamer.lol. :) Fifteen bass, 72.78lbs? That is impressive. Indulge us. Tell us what you were catching them on, time of year, etc. That is so amazing. I guess you will always remember that tourny !!! :) I remember going to Lake Anna in Va when I was about 17 and sleeping in my old Ford Fairlane for two days. I had all this junk stuff to fish with, long hair and it was draw tournys. The old rednecks would cuss if they got the young hippie but, after a while when I got to know everyone I started staying at there houses for the tourny's and made some good friends. We thought we were all that. I remember how we dressed and some of the old boats. Those old narrow Rangers with the seats one in front of the other and 60 hp motors, lol. Boy it was fun. I would not trade those days for a million bucks. Man, thirty years goes by in a blink of a eye.

Shouldn't be a problem-central and west Texas are the ones that might get hammered.  We couldn't fish this weekend around San Antonio because the lakes/ramps on the area lakes were closed thanks to Tropical Storm Erin and if Dean comes in that sure isn't going to help.  If it stays on the projected path Toledo Bend should miss it.  On the plus side, if Toledo Bend does get the rain from Dean that could be a good thing-I haven't checked lately, but TB was way down, and this could help fill it.

From the looks of things we may have gotten lucky with Dean; Toledo Bend is at 171.52 or 0.48 below full pool with all generators & spillway gates closed. I hope the good lord spares every one and lets that sucker die; I've been through 2 category 5's in my life.

one thing to do when you have the wind is make the wind your friend, go to cranks, spinners cast with the window. ive never been scared of a lil rain the only time im willing to leave a lake is when that lighting starts up, man let me tell ya i can eat, sleep and fish for hours, days. im one of those guys who even fish in 106 degree weather ive already gotten sick 6 times this year cuz of this freaky heat wave.

besides my family and friends are convinced im nuts to begin with so why not prove em right and catch more bass  ;)
