airborne_angler Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Now I know I may get grief for posting this here but please bear with me. This could go into the boating section, but this is more of a question concering technique than about boats in general. That being said ,here goes. I fish out of a 10ft Aluminum Jon Boat,in which I have no choice but to sit down when I fish due to the size and stability. How does one pitch and flip while sitting down? Is it even possible? Anyone give me pointers on how to counter this dillema, other than buying a bigger boat? Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 11, 2007 Super User Posted August 11, 2007 When a person reaches a certain age they start experiencing physical handicaps; I have severe arthritis in my lower back and after standing for extended periods of time I have difficulty moving. So needless to say I've taught myself how to flip, pitch, & cast seating Quote

kybassangler Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 I never could get the knack for gettting it in the water pretty like the pros. I try to hit the bank and wiggle it off the edge if it is safe enough. You can usually get a plastic worm through grass if you raise your rod and gently hop it. Jigs and such you probably shouldn't listen to me. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted August 12, 2007 Super User Posted August 12, 2007 Ask Bill Dance! I don't think I've ever seen that guy on his feet while he's fishing. He must have developed something with these presentations. I've never seen anyone stress a fishing seat like he does when he sets into a fish. He leans them so hard it looks like they are going to tear the seat base out of the floor. Quote
Pond-Pro Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Well im not sure exactley the style of your jon boat, but I normaly stand whenever I fish from them. If you do fall, which I have, you try to fall in the boat not in the water. That probably sounded dumb. Anyway the only thought I have about flipping while sitting down is that maybe a shorter rod would work. Jeff: Bill Dance has ripped seats right off the deck. Have you watched the Bill Dance Bloopers? Hilarious! ;D ;D Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 13, 2007 Super User Posted August 13, 2007 You flip & pitch sitting the same way you do when you're standing Quote
Triton21 Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 You flip & pitch sitting the same way you do when you're standing I have had 9 back surgeries and a hip replaced. I manage as well as most guys that can stand up an fish all day. I have had numerous fishing pardners that was amazed with what I can do with a bait from a sitting positionn. Kelley Quote
