iminsanenutz Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 its been raining on and off all day. im just wondering what you guys do whenthis happens, and what changes from a regular day with no rain. thanks mike Quote
BadKarma42 Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Put on raingear and keep going. Also, make sure to put your hood up or it will fill with water. Leared the the hard way. You may want to beat the banks as well. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 6, 2007 Super User Posted August 6, 2007 Rain, sleet and snow. Fished them all. Great fishing in the rain. So you get a little wet? The fish are wet and they don't complain. Other than for lightning, fishing in the rain can be extremely productive. I remember as a kid in Louisiana fishing on the bank of a lagoon just before a strong cold front and a storm came through the area and we caught them on every cast. Bluegills, pearch, bass, catfish. They were going crazy. We stayed as the storm got to us and the rain started to fall and we continued to catch fish. We finally quit when the lightning arrived in the distance and ran home, fast. So fish in the rain and have fun. You may be the only guy out there! Quote
bocabasser Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 i totally agree with sam--fishing in the rain is great! when it rains down here in florida, that always means frogs on top. i love to fish in the rain. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 6, 2007 Super User Posted August 6, 2007 Just put on the rain gear and keep on going. I have also found out the hard way that it is a good idea to keep a scoop in the boat in case of a real heavy downpour. Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 7, 2007 Super User Posted August 7, 2007 Just be shure you are not the tallest element in the lake, otherwise your fishing rod turns into a lightning rod. Quote
New 2 Bass Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Just be shure you are not the tallest element in the lake, otherwise your fishing rod turns into a lightning rod. He ain't kidding. In some cases a 7 foot carbon fiber rod, with another 15 yards of carbon fiber line, tipped off with a metal object and its all whipping in the wind!!! ;D ;D I've been fishing out when it has started to come down cats and dogs. I got this low cast I've got down good. Kind of like fishing from one knee, rod tip down. I've had a couple strikes come close enough to ...remind me of the priest in Caddy Shack. Stay reasonably safe. Quote
J-Boogie Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 when the wind kicks up and a front moves in with rain over the mountains, IM FISHIN! Right before the rain hits the water the fishing is like heaven. I use soft plastics, worms etc. When the lighting comes i get outa dodge though. nothing like rain fishing Quote
