jeremyt Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 You and I should go fishing, that way neither one of us will feel too bad. I know how you feel. It seem for the past three weeks I can't buy a bite. The further I can get away from where I live the better luck I have and I haven't been able to get away since the first of July Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 1, 2007 Super User Posted August 1, 2007 First off I wish you guys would tell everyone where or on what lake y'all are talking about; since both DaphsBassMan & jeremyt are new look at mine and cajun1977 answers, could y'all tell where we are from? It makes it easier for those of use who want to help if we know where we are starting Quote

No offense. Your friend may be a great guy. But if he is catching 10 to your zip why isn't he giving you some pointers? Also, are you asking for his help? If my buddy was catching 10 to my 0 I'd ask him so many questions that he wouldn't want to fish with me again. Quote
DaphsBassMan Posted August 1, 2007 Author Posted August 1, 2007 I fish everyday after work for about 5 hours a day.See my wife baught me a kina expensive reel and ever since then Ican't catch a thing.I live in Jacksonville,Florida I fish mostly little ponds because I have no boat. Quote

I feel your pain. Things have not been exactly prime for my style of fishng lately. My partner is catching some fish, although its not the 10:1 you refer to. At times I get rather frustrated. Two things that have helped with that feeling: 1) Recognizing that the conditions are severe and that no one else is putting up numbers; 2) Rum. Quote
ivey_fish_camp Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 It's hot outside, what are you fishing with, how deep, is there any structure or cover around. Conditions have changed over the last 6 months and so have the feeding habits of the fish. On a pond where you have no boat I would recommend using something that would cover a lot of water, such as a spinnerbait, crankbait, or rattle trap, but fish them deep with varying presentations and speeds. As the sun sets it might be time to bust out the top water baits. Quote
DaphsBassMan Posted August 3, 2007 Author Posted August 3, 2007 well i caught a fish today.....it was a warmouth no big.I still want a bass!!!Oh I fish senkos alot and I just bought a buzzbait. Tomorrow I am going to try other lures. Thanks you guys. Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 3, 2007 Super User Posted August 3, 2007 What you are doing wrong is that you are desperate to catch some bass and you don 't fish right, that reflects in your record and your attitude specially when your buddy caught more than you did, what, where or how was he fishing ? after a while of him catching fish and you nuthin did you took a little time watching him ? Quote
Super User islandbass Posted August 3, 2007 Super User Posted August 3, 2007 There was an article in Bassmaster with Rick Clunn who said that part of the equation is attitude. You have got to flush out all negativity so your mind can be clear and focus on fishing for those bass. It seemed like a weird article but almost every time I've gone out, I've caught something and if I don't I say I'll get them next time. There might be something to this positive thinking and this is coming from someone who use to think I was going to home skunked every time because I am relegated to the bank. No go get them! Quote
Taliesin Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 My fishing partner is in a similar situation. We have been to 7 tourneys so far this year, and he hasn't caught a keeper yet. However, I have given him pointers, loaned him lures that copied what I was using, etc. I also let him know exactly what he was doing wrong and that his gear is part of his problem (all he has is cheap combos, mostly spincast). He is rather poor so the tackle situation won't change soon. I am hoping that eventually he will pick up on what I am doing right (as rare as that is). To be even more fair, the lake we fish is highly pressured, so it's not easy out there. Many of the others in the tourney have caught only 1 or 2 all year, while I am in 6th place with only 5 fish in the year. Quote
Bass_Akwards Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Bro, Go buy a bag of 10 5 inch watermellon/w black flake Senkos, fish them whacky or weedless and weightless, and fish them SLOWLY. Don't have the attitude of "I'm gunna catch 10 bass on one cast" You can thank me later, AFTER you catch more fish in one day than you have in the last month. Todd Quote
dgquail Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Are you fishing primarily from the back of the boat?? Quote
R520dvx Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 fish more ... relax and enjoy. it will come. Quote
DaphsBassMan Posted August 5, 2007 Author Posted August 5, 2007 yeah I watched,I even bought a rooster tail and copied him.He says that the one I bought was to big.I can't throw lightweight lures seeing as to the fact that I am new at the baitcasting reel I love it though.I think I just want it to bad,and thats why I have had no luck. Also, can you put a weightt on your line with a rooster tail? Bizzo Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 I can tell you that if I am being impatient, I fish differently. There have been a few times that I have been fishing for hours with nothing to show for it, and I notice that I am not fishing the same way. I tend to speed things up, I fish my senkos/fat ikas too fast. I make too many casts and dont give the fish enough time to size up and hit my bait. The best advice I can give is to slow down and think positive. Quote
college Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 I too had a dry spell recently, but luckily got out of it yesterday with a nice bass. My advice to you is to calm down, now that it has been so long since you caught one it is all your thinking about. If you relax, go to a nice location, maybe not a huge lake, but toss in a texas rig , reel it nice and slow, make it dance a little. If that doesn't work in a small pond, the other way i rig my worms (not sure what its called) is to push the hook through the top of its head, and keep sliding the worm up so it is flush with the straight part of the hook, and no part of the worm touches the curve, Make sense? almost like rigging a ballyhoo when mahi fishing Quote
J-Boogie Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Sell that high dollar reel and get you a Jon boat and a spinning reel and have FUN! lol Nah i fish almost everyday also and the second i take my bud,he slams that many in a afternoon also. Its weird. The guy hardly fishes and cares less about it. Find you a good tourny guy to run with locally and change your presentation Quote
