natanestaban Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 I PERSONALLY PREFER THE CHALLANGE OF BIGGER WATER BUT THE FARM POND AROUND THE CORNER HAS IT'S PERKS. I ESTIMATE AROUND 12 LBS AND SHE IS STILL THERE WAITING FOR ME NEXT TIME OR SOMEBODY ELSE WHO I HOPE WOULD CATCH AND RELEASE AS WELL. KEEP THE GOOD GENES IN THE WATER. ROADKILL CAMO TUBE FOR THOSE WHO WERE WONDERING. BAMA NATE Quote
Lightninrod Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Beautimus BASS Bama!!! What a TOAD!!! 8-) Dan Quote
Super User senile1 Posted August 3, 2007 Super User Posted August 3, 2007 Nice bass! And you are correct. Small bodies of water are great learning environments. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 3, 2007 Super User Posted August 3, 2007 Ponds also allow you to test new baits and techniques and to balance your baitcasters. So pond do play an important role in bass fishing and the fishing is usually very good. Quote
pondhopper Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 As this awesome photo illustrates, ponds can be good place to just plain fish. Personally, I thinks most ponds hold larger fish that many anglers think, they become old, wise, selective and difficult to catch. Quote
moby bass Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Ah yes, I got a 22 incher out of our neighborhood pond last year. I put her back but haven't seen her yet this year. Hopefully nobody caught it and kept it. Should be another inch or two this year. I keep trying. Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 3, 2007 Super User Posted August 3, 2007 Guess how I learned to fish lures correctly ? Fishing with them in gin clear water ponds. Guess how I learned how bass react to a bait ? By watching them in those ponds. Good for confidence, not really, bass in those ponds are really hard to catch but if you can catch them there there are few places where you can 't catch them. Good for practice, oh yeah ! Quote
armesjr Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Like everyone else said they are good places to go and practice your technique. Also in most areas they are the places to go to catch the big fish. Check out the the link below. It is a list of all the citation largemouth bass, caught in the state of VA last year. Over half of them were caught in private ponds. By the way my name will be on their twice for 2007. http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing/varp/citations.asp?species=largemouth+bass&sort=waterbody Quote
Tpayneful Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 I have two places that I gain confidence in new lures. 1. 2 acre pond behind my office building, it is chocked full of vegitation. Gained confidence in suspending jerkbaits last winter and a Horny toad this summer. 2. A feeder creek on my home lake, 1 block from the house. When it rains really good and this creek starts to rise with the storm water, this spot is ON FIRE! If the water isn't flowing, this spot is dead. It is a shore fishing community hole but I got my PB out of there in March. I have been able to gain confidence in jigs, crankbaits, chatterbaits and flukes in this spot. I think that everyone needs to find a place that they know has catchable fish and use it to learn new techniques. I set goals for myself and try to get good at other techniques. I was getting schooled by my partner which made me want to get better. Last year I learned to use a jig and a crankbait. This year I learned to use super fluke and a horny toad. The next two things are the drop shot and Carolina Rig. I have had a hard time making myself learn the C-RIG. Quote
mattm Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Wow...thats a fat fish. You are right anytime I get a lure that I need to gain some confidence in I take it up to my community pond and give it a shot. Quote
Red Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 yeah, with all the flooding we have had here this summer, the lake is closed...all the launches and parks are flooded, so no shore fishing there for me, but i have access to two small tanks..i started with basically no confidence in anything, since i have gaind confidence in cranks, topwater, t-rigs and senkos Quote
