This past weekend I fished an unfamiliar portion of a reservoir I normally fish due to low water conditions. I stumbled upon  a little cove that was covered with what appeared to be stumps. To my surprise the depth at this spot was ranging from 25-34 feet deep and less than 30 yards from shore. So my vision of stumps turned out to be treesI proceeded to fish this spot with no luck. What is the typical max depth to fish for bass?  Any thoughts on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

While I've caught bass in 25 to 35' on Texas Rigs; my question would be if it's that deep 30 yards from shore how deep is it from shore out to the 25' drop?

You'll hear alot of different opinions on the optimum depth that bass will live but 34' seems well within reason, especially if there is timber and stumps involved.

Did you notice any bait in that area?

The depth around the shoreline starts at around 5-7 feet. In terms of bait or other action for that matter; I noticed  a few sunfish near the surface of the stumps.  This spot is also near the dam if that matters at all. I was worried that there is low oxygen levels at that depth.  Someone mentioned trying jigsshould I be concentrating on the bottom of these stumps? Thanks for any ideas

We do a lot of fishing to 75'.  Many of our fish suspend at 50 or so in about 100 fow.  Last fall a big tournament was won on Table Rock with the fish coming off the bottom in 105 fow.

This is the type of structure I fish all the time, spend some time graphing the area looking for places that drop from 15' to 25-30'. Anchor on the drop-off; work the area 360 degrees around the boat with Texas Rigs, Carolina Rigs, or Jig-N-Craws. Drop-offs are associated with a sudden change in depth contour rather than a submerged channel. Inactive bass often suspend over the drop-off; active fish feed near the top of the drop, and then descend into deep water when danger threatens.

How deep is too deep?    For this time of the year, I like to set up around the thermocline.    With all the rains in  Tex during June, it took its time setting up this year.

I like to let the food source tell me how deep to concentrate.   If the shad are holding in the thermocline at 22', the bass won't be far from that zone either.

When I was in Cali, fishing past 40 feet seemed dumb,  I learned that different lakes don't go by everyones norm.
