ROCKETRICEFARMER Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Willand Pond in Dover,nh has blue green algae in it . It's bad too, they shut the whole pond down. I have been fishing in it as well as other places. I want to know if anyone can tell me if I am running the risk of contaminating other ponds. this stuff is nasty. It can make you sick, kill your pets, and destroy the pond. I don't want to spread it to my other fishing spots. please help. Quote

Some species of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) produce neurotoxins, hepatotoxins, cytotoxins, and endotoxins, making them dangerous to animals and humans. Several cases of human poisoning have been documented but a lack of knowledge prevents an accurate assessment of the risks. Your not going to transfer it but you sure as heck can get sick playing in it. In addition know that its bloom ensures that the water is highly contaminated with fertilizers. What those are would be based on the surrounding land - farm or residential. The algae is present in all waters but the bloom is a product or water that is over rich in nutrients. It will die a natural death but I sure wouldn't be playing in it. Quote
