When is enough, ENOUGH?

My wife and I decided to go out and try and do a little fishing this afternoon on the little 18 acre lake here in town. Sounds innocent enough doesn't it? Well most of you just know me as the guy that asks a million questions but here in town I must either be the most unusual looking person in the world or I must look like I am the next KVD because it never fails no matter what someone has to come and fish right on top of me or they allow their kids to throw these big boulders into the water spooking the fish. I know what you are thinking. I have to be exaggerating but really I am not. We went out at five in the morning the weekend before last and were the only ones there when low and behold here comes one single guy and he stands five feet from my wife and starts chucking into her line. So when is enough, enough? I have politely asked these people not to stand on top of us and not to allow their children to throw rocks and you would have thought I called them everything in the book. Does anyone else have these problems?

As House said in one episode....."There ain't no cure for stupid".  I see only two solutions to your problem.  Either move to a different spot or find another lake.  (Actually there's a third solution, but inserting the guy's rod into a very dark place or tossing the kids into the water won't get you anything but trouble with the law) :

Had the same problem the last two days of bank fishing.

I had to tell them it was a Felony in our state to,  in anyway, interfere with someone who is legally fishing , or hunting, all it would take is me snapping a video with the camera around my neck, and making a cell phone call.. If you got a good enough camera phone that does video,, might work as well

Just tell them that you need a special permit to fish that pond otherwise they will get fined $500!

When you go to these small local ponds, right in town, you have to go with a completely different mindset.

You can't call it a fishing trip as much as a "few hours on the water"  It makes it easier to deal with the different types of folks you will inevitably run into.

I have one little place.  probably about 5 acres or so.  It's got some bass in it, but it's also where the guys who have the remote control boats like to meet and do their thing.

Of course it wouldn't be any fun for them if they couldn't cruise thier little toys under my line or something.

I don't let it bother me.  It's part of the deal.   I usually catch a bass or two anyway.

It's all in how you view it.

I had the same problem on my last saltwater trip I was fishing this ledge near the mouth of the Cape Fear river. I was anchored and this ledge is pretty long. Well low and behold these clowns in a Deck boat kept runing up beside me a drifting down the ledge. At one point they were so close that I could have smacked one of them in the head with my 7ft. rod. Three years ago I would have called them every name in the book and got into a confrontation on the water. However I must be mellowing out, plus my wife was with me so I just moved. Besides where we were fishing the river is almost mile or two across..

Ugh....I feel your pain. A couple weeks ago, some older guy came up to me and started lecturing me on how to trig a worm......then he saw I was using a baitcaster and low and behold, out come 2 of his crappy old baitcasters he has never used and asks(pushily) for me to help him out using them. This ALWAYS happens on the shore.  Best advice is to just move.

My best pond is the focal point of a city park, bike and running trail. It's VERY busy on the weekends with kids,  dogs and people who are fishing for bluegill and keeping everything with a fin. Most people are pleasant, but they have no concept of "fisherman etiquette." So, what to do?

My suggestion is to work around it, find another place to fish, don't go or leave.

I was fishing a dock on Lake Sinclair recently when another boat came in and started fishing the other side of the dock, maybe 100 feet away. Now, on a lake with 400+ miles of shoreline, don't you think he could have found another dock to fish?!

I shore fish alot and this happens all the time.  I have figured out my own solution to the problem though, I just go where no one else wants to go.  I walk to the areas that there is too many trees and bushes on the bank to even attempt to cast and I just wade out to about knee deep or right beyond all the obstructions on the shore and fish from there.  I'm not afraid to get my feet wet and all the people can do is sit there and stare as I catch all the fish.   ;D

I've just started fishing at 7-11pm After it gets dusk, I don't see anyone The occasional ski boat cruises through the sloughs at about 15 mph and stirs up all kinds of crap, but I've found it hard to get mad at people on public waters. It might not be right waht they have done but, Oh well. I catch better fish at night anyways  ;D

why try and put up with the stuff that is so obviously  wrong, if im fishing and another boat comes on top of me  i will tell them politley  to go f themselves.  if that dont work  well then 2 can play this game.        if someone is doing something that i dont like  ill just move   but if it comes down to  them being on top of me  or crowding my space               its on

I live in Boulder Colorado.  Here there's about a 2 mile square area where there's 20 lakes, so I dont have to worry about this that much, but I have a great idea for you.

When someone is crowding you on a shorline, when you want to have a nice chill day of fishing in peace and quiet, jusy follow this 10 step program...

1.  reach into your backpack

2. Pull out a pair of womans stockings

3. Pull said stocking over your head and face, kinda like a bank robber would do it

4.  reach back into your backpack

5. Grab a plastic knife that look like a real knife, but cant hurt anybody

6. Look in the general direction of the moron who's fishing next to you

7. Holding the knife in the air, Slowly start chuckling, while looking at the moron next to you

8.  Build the chucking into full blown maniacal laughter

9. While laughing like a hyena slowly start walking towards the evil fisherman crowding you and your woman

10. Watch the selfish, cracker headed, toothless inbred, who's crowding you,  move down the lake about 500 yards

I remember one time I was fishing a lake and these kids come up with there parents and put an electrical remote controlled  toy boat in the water and were trying to hit my line or something because they were never to far away from my line. It was sad to see 2 adults did not have the common curtsy > to let there children drive there toy boat some were else  >

Also the rock thing does happen to me a lot. I do not bother saying anything I just move on to a other part of the lake since the fish are spooked it is not worth sounding like a *****.

i was fishing at a local pond, and i always fish at this one side of the pond. ive never seen anybody else fish on this side, because its hard to get to, and its the only spot ive actually caught bass here. next thing i know some guy and his dog stroll up next to me, ties the dogs leash around the picnic table and starts fishing a couple of steps away from me. at first i was a very annoyed, but we started talking and he was a pretty cool guy, lol. now i meet him there and we fish together. it would be a whole other story if he caught anything, but i out fished him, therefore it was okay...

I try to look at it this way,they don't call it "public" for nothing.I see idiots/annoying kids on every outing,i try to just ignore it,unless it's something highly illegal then i direct to the park rangers or DNR guys.As much as i try to keep my mouth shut it's hard sometimes.Gotta remember there's some crazy people out there who might not have any regards or respect to human life.
