Super User Raul Posted June 22, 2007 Super User Posted June 22, 2007 Ok guys, you will never catch the WR of LMB, nobody has caught it yet and unless the IGFA recognizes Mac 's fish as the new official LMB WR you may still have a very slim chance, but so slim that nobody has been capable of breaking it and it 's been a few decades. But this doesn 't mean you can 't have YOUR name in the book of records. If you want to have YOUR name in the book of records all you need is to catch a LMB no matter what size it is and apply for it in the LINE CLASS. Here 's a list of states and line classes that are still free: Alabama: 4 lb test Arizona: 20 lb test Colorado: 4, 12 and 20 lb test Connecticut: 4, 12 and 20 lb test Delaware: 20 lb test Hawaii: 4, 12, and 20 lb test Idaho: 4, 12, and 20 lb test Illinois: 20 lb test Iowa: 4 lb test Kentucky: 4 and 20 lb test Louisiana: 4 lb test Maine: 4 and 20 lb test Michigan: 20 lb test Minnesota: 4, 12, and 20 lb test Nevada: 4, 12, and 20 lb test New Hampshire: 20 lb test New Jersey: 4, 12, and 20 lb test New Mexico: 4 and 20 lb test North Dakota: 4, 12, and 20 lb test Oklahoma: 4, 12, and 20 lb test Oregon: 4, 12, and 20 lb test Rhode Island: 4 and 20 lb test South Carolina: 4 and 20 lb test South Dakota: 4 lb test Tennessee: 4 and 20 lb test Utah: 4, 12, and 20 lb test Vermont: 4 and 20 lb test Washington: 4, 12, and 20 lb test West Virginia: 4, 12, and 20 lb test Wisconsin: 20 lb test Wyoming: 4, 12, and 20 lb test Nope, don 't go around all feverish thinking that you can go and break a record with your ordinary line right now, it 's going to overtest and your catch won 't be valid if your line overtests, you need to spool in them reel spools with IGFA approved line ( ANDE Tournament is IGFA aproved ). So, get ready and HAPPY RECORD HUNTING ! We hope to see YOUR name holding that record. Quote
Gotta Love It Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 Thanks Raul!!! I will give your list to my wife. She will be happy to book all of our family vacations to these states so I can break each record! She will be VERY exicited! LOL Quote

George Welcome Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 State record - IGFA record - Not the same thing and not the same qualifications. IGFA records are a lot easier at certain levels to obtain: you do have to follow their rules however. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted June 23, 2007 Super User Posted June 23, 2007 Thanks for the heads up! Bucketmouth, not all of us are trophy hunters Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 23, 2007 Author Super User Posted June 23, 2007 how come theres no maryland slot up there? :-[ They are taken, but that doesn 't mean you can 't break it, check the line class records for your state, then go hunting for the new line class record, remember, you have to follow the rules: 1.- Be shure your line does not overtest ( ANDE tournament is IGFA approved and will not overtest ) 2.- 2 witnesses 3.- Pics from the animal with a measure tape 4.- The fish must be weighted on CERTIFIED SCALES. 5.- The fish has to be caught by legal means and the possesion must be legal, in some states the possesion of the fish is only legal if the fish is caught by the mouth, in other states certain techniques like dropshot were illegal so check the status of the law. It doesn 't have to be IGFA certified scale, a certified scale is any scale that by law has to be certified by an authority like a butcher 's scale or a postal scale. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 24, 2007 Super User Posted June 24, 2007 Great thread, Raul. I hope some of our guys go after a new record and report all about it here. That would definitely be cool. 8-) Quote

Fish Chris Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Hey Raul, I'd like to think I have a least a slim chance of catching the new, all-tackle IGFA WR Largemouth bass ! When your fishing lakes that has already kicked out 18's, all it takes then, is a "special fish" with the just the right genes ! (Like Jed's fish) Then let me play with it enough, and eventually, I will put that sucker in the boat ;-) I did actually hold an IGFA line class world record way back in 85'..... it was the 4 lb test Striped bass record, which went 16-12. That was fun. Kind of the highlight of my fishing back then. Nowadays though, line class records are out for me, as I won't even consider using monofilament for anything. Then, to try to use say 10 lb braid, directly in place of 10 lb mono, would not be a fair trade. Braid is great "because" you can use 30lb in place of 10 lb, or 50 in place of 15 or 20. Putting 10 lb braid on a rod designed for 10 lb mono..... then treating it like 10 lb mono, you will snap it right off. But it's cool..... I had my name in the IGFA book once. The only place I really want it now, is in the spot for "all-tackle" IGFA WRL ! :-) Peace, Fish Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 25, 2007 Author Super User Posted June 25, 2007 Chris, you are one in a little bit under 10,000 BR members that has caught 10+ big mommas with consistency, so your ticket it 's not good for the lottery, if somebody has a slim chance is you; most of the members have trouble getting past the 10 pounds, heck, its been almost 15 years and I haven 't been able to break my own PB with a 14 pounder, I 'm still 0.14 lbs short, can you believe that ! almost 14 lbs is not 14 lbs. > Quote

Thanks, JJ JJ, like I said, you need to catch your fish with line that will not overtest, 12 lb line out of the counter most probably is going to overtest because with few exceptions most line brands available overtest, if it overtests then you can 't apply for the line class record, to apply for line class record along with the other requirements I mentioned earlier you have to submit a line sample right out of your reel to be tested for breaking strength. JuniorFisherJJ08 Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 raul where and who do i send this to? Quote
FivePoundBluegill Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 WOw i could easily get my spot in there.... The line class record for bluegill on 20 pound test is vacant for california. I could catch any old bluegill with 20 pound test and get in. Also do they keep these records for carp? Years ago I caught a carp which was 18-20 pounds and 34 inches long on 10 pound test. Dont know wether that would be a record for 12 pound line class. They dont seem to have a section for carp in there. Anyone know about this? I may havea line class record carp and not have submitted it Quote
dolomieu Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Just a note- the records on the Field & Stream website are over 5 years old, I went to the IGFA website to see if they have changed, but you have to be a member to look at the records. I really hope they havent changed much. Quote
Taliesin Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I may be wrong (very possible) but... I thought there was a minimum weight before it could be turned in for a record. That might be the individual states though. I know Missouri requires any new record to be Citation worthy before if can be submitted. Quote
wagn Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 never tried to break/make a record before. So I have a couple of questions. 1) How do I make sure that my line does not overtest. Is there special line that I have to buy? 2) How do I get the fish weighed with a certified scale, without having to bring it to like a butcher or something, since that would basically involve no catch and release (plus i think my local supermarket would be confused if I just dropped a fish on their cold-cuts scale). 3) Also, where do I need to send the information. and what information in particular do I need, a photo of the fish on the scale? and line sample? and do i need witnesses to sign a letter or something? Thanks for all of the help. I really think I might go out and try and get myself in a record book. Quote
