deadeye32. Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Coming from Indiana, my PB here is 8.2 (58%) but this year I went to Florida and caught a monster. There was an old guy who was there to watch and he was screaming it was the new state record and how he just knew this fish was larger than 17lbs. Well after weighing the fish it only came out to 11.8 and It looks like the real record is actully 20lbs. Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 20, 2007 Super User Posted June 20, 2007 I'D PUT ALL MY MONEY ON FISH CHRIS like bettin on SECRETERIAT Sure bet, no surprises there. For me it 's difficult to say, there 's noboby keeping records in Guanajuato. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted June 20, 2007 Super User Posted June 20, 2007 Hey Rolo, only 17-4 ? What about Fritz Friebels fish ? Not certified ? That's right Fish Chris, the state of Florida refuses to accept Fritz's record. Here's the story surrounding that fish: THE LOST RECORD Most bass fishermen know, and many lust after, the Perry Record. Almost nobody every wondered about the record Perry broke. Bill Baab did wonder. While the old Field & Stream records -- from days before IGFA and NFWFHF handled this chore -- had been destroyed, Baab turned up a 20-pound 10-ounce largemouth. It was caught by Fritz Friebel and had held the record for nine years prior to Perry's fish. It reportedly came from Moody Lake in the Florida panhandle. Friebel's brother claimed the fish came from nearby Big Fish Lake though. This record is listed by Florida, but is considered "uncertified" under the Sunshine state's new, tough rules. In any case, Friebel, a traveling hardware salesman who always toted fishing gear, fished Sunday morning in May of 1923 with a couple of friends. Friebel took his fish with a Creek Chub Straight Pikie Minnow. It measured 31 inches long with a 27 inch girth. The girth might have been off. Friebel's daughter, in a later interview, noted, "A fellow accused Daddy of loading his fish with lead sinkers. So daddy cut the fish open and let the fellow feel inside." Like the Perrys, the family ate the fish soon after. =========================================================================== Florida's second largest bass is likewise "uncertified" 19.00 pounds; Lake Tarpon, Florida; Riley Witt; June 26, 1961. =========================================================================== I'm afraid the Florida state record remains at 17 lb 4 oz taken in Polk County, Florida (my home county) Roger Quote
Taliesin Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 I'm not in the running at all: Oklahoma (home state), pb 6.5, state record 14-11, 44% Missouri (current Air Force station), pb 6.5, state record 13-14, 47% Yeah, my pb is only 6.5, but I managed it twice. A good site to check your state records is: http://www.another site.com / state records / default.cfm (get rid of all the spaces. I couldn't get it to work otherwise) Lists every state and then some. Out of curiosity I checked a couple of other species and found out that I'm doing better with bass than the others: Hybrid striper, pb 8.5 (not weighed, but compared to a 7.5 that I did weigh), Missouri record 20.5, 41% Blue catfish, Missouri pb 10, Missouri record 103-00, 9.7% Channel catfish, Missouri pb 8, Missouri record 34-10, 23% Oklahoma pb 10, Oklahoma record 35-15, 28% Quote
Captain Cali Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 51% of state record. 61% of "Official" lake record. Not bad for just 2 years in the game. Also Bass don't live beyond 20' deep because the oxygen level is not sufficient for them for more than a few minutes. Are you speaking about Florida or bass in general? For the most part, 20 feet is rather shallow of us. We catch bass in 50-80 feet at certain times of the year. It's the norm. If you can't fish deep, you wont catch fish. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 21, 2007 Super User Posted June 21, 2007 24 lbs 6 oz. 101% of the World Record. Unfortunately it was a green trout. If it had been a real bass, a smallmouth bass, I would have kept it. I was going to take a picture, but since it was getting late, I didn't want to take the time away from fishing for those bronze beauties. I don't know...I catch 'em that size all the time. Green bass are boring... maybe next time I'll take a pic. 8-) Quote

MendotaBassMaster Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 According to the Illinois Department of Resources book the state record largemouth was caught 2/15/76 Stone Quarry Lake and weighed 13 pounds one oz. Needless to say my percentage is not quite what I would like it to be but I am continuing to work on it at every chance. lol Quote

Guest avid Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Up here in Nor Cal, we have never had a bass over 19 lbs. I can't seem to write what I want to convey without it sounding hostile or overly sarcastic. the limitations of the written word are like that. I'm trying to make one of Avids famous funnies, so big guy please take this in the spirit it's intended. BOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOO WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Quote
BucketmouthAngler13 Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 My PB in Jersey is 5.875lbs and the state record is 10.875, so acording to my calculator my percentage is 54.02%. According to this theory, I guess that means it was a trophy! Quote
Bassassasin12 Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 woo hoo... my 7.3 divided by the 11.4 record here in new york is 64 percent. Trophy time ;D ;D ;D Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted June 22, 2007 Super User Posted June 22, 2007 Nice one RW In Arkansas she weighs in at 16.4. My PB weighing in at 11.2... Brings me up to 68%. But, like the rest of us, I'm still waiting for the big one 8-) Quote
Fish Chris Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 Hey Avid, I know... I know.... a 19 lb'er is a HUGE bass ! But it just seems tons away from the 20 to 22 lb'ers (not to mention that 25.1lb genetic freak of a bass that the whole world got to see) that So Cal has put out. Anyway, the odds say that the next WRL will come from So Cal.... about 500 to 600 South of my waters. But I'd like to think that our waters could have a bass with genes like those from the 25.1, that grows to 22-6 :-) BTW, I figured the percentage of my big Smallie from earlier this year, to our state record.... 93% :-) Something to be proud of for sure...... However, when the young guy caught her 10 days earlier, at 8.94 lbs, she was a whopping 98% of the state record ! There is no doubt in my mind, that if that fish is caught next year, she will be a new state record by close a full pound ! I can hardly imagine a 10 lb Smallie ! Peace, Fish Quote
kms399 Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 if I did it right i am at 71% 5.8 is my pb 8.15 is the state record. the problem is. that fish was 20 1/2 inches and skinny. but last year I cought one 21 inches and pretty chubby and didn't have a scale with me. Quote
