BASS fisherman Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Ya, so much for the "best" day to go fishing. I got up bright and early this morning at 4 a.m. I went to a small 17 acre pond and started off throwing a buzzbait. I had several slaps, but no bites. I switched to a smaller size, same thing....a couple slaps here and there but no bites. So then I tied on a pop-r, same thing....just a few slaps here and there, no bites. At this point I know the fish are there, and active. I tied on a custom crankbait and walked around a bit more, nada....tried a Mann's 1-, nada! What the hech happened to this "great" fishing? But I didn't let the fact I hadn't caught anything bother me. At 6:30a.m. I left and drove 15 minutes to another pond to meet up with a bass club buddy. We walked around a little pond that has a great population of 1-3lb LM and SM bass, as well as tons of blue gill, crappie, BIG carp, perch, catfish, and trout. I started at this new pond throwing a crank that runs 6-8 feet, and fishing it along a ledge that runs around this pond. 9 times out of 10 you can get a few nice bass doing this, but not today. I tried another crank, this one only a shallow diver, nada! All the while I'm thinking jig, or spinnerbait while I'm throwing the cranks, but my buddy is throwing just those lures. Also with out one single bite. At this point we're 1/2 way around this pond with not one fish to show for. I had also been fishing for about 2 hours at this point. So I figure slow down and tie on a texas rigged blk neon tube and start targeting laydowns that sit on and near the ledge. I fished that jig another 30 minutes with not one bite what so ever before I tyied on a small grub on a 1/8 oz jig head. I ended the morning with a poppin scum frog, that got several slaps, but no takers. Not one fish the whole morning! What happenned to the super great fishing? Quote
Guest avid Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 I had several slaps, but no bites. Maybe you need a different LINE Quote
Guest avid Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Seriously now, I have not found the Solunar tables to be reliable, BUT check this out. My pB was caught at 12 noon on the longest day of the year (June 21st) so how about that? I should add that the bass was way close to the shoreline behind a tangle of overhanging limbs. I had tried unnsuccessfuly to get a cast in there for months and this day it just so happened that it worked. But fact remains at noon on the summer solstace is when I caght my pb. Also, I have observed over the years, that fishing during the day when the moon is full is usually tough. I fish when I can, but daylight fishing during the full moon phase is not my favorite. but that's about all I can say about the lunar phases. I never check them. Quote

What happenned to the super great fishing? i'm just spreading the word of the primetimes calendar, sorry you didn't do well, if you're off work today try going out during the prime time bite and see if you do better, i'll be out this evening on the boat, and then carolina riggin' the drop offs and points tonight from 11pm-1am from the bank at my lake, good luck everyone else! BASS fisherman Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Line, now I thought of that too. I was primarily throwing 10 # Sufix seige which for the conditions, should've been good. I never took much stock into the "best times" to fish, and now I know why. Neither me nor my buddy had one bite. On average when we meet and fish a small pond, we usually get atleast a couple fish each. Go figure! I'm going back out this evening for an hour or so before dark, and I'll fish untill around 9pm. We'll have to see if the fishing picks up later. Quote
BASS fisherman Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Dont feel bad Trev LakeBraddock, I didn't go because you posted this. I had this morning planned a couple weeks ago, just to see if it would pan out. Quote
msmonroe Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Line, now I thought of that too. I was primarily throwing 10 # Sufix seige ... ;D Dude, you should re-read Avid's post. I'm pretty sure you missed his double entendre. - Matt Quote
Pond-Pro Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Well I had the privilage of going up to Lake Erie Wednesday and the fishing was pretty good. My dad and I brought home 10 walleye, two shy of the limit. I also caught about an eight pound sheaphead! I think there is somthing to the solunar tables. Thanks for informing us. Quote
BOOYAH Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Well I tested out this today as well. Took my last bags of worms an bought a spinerbait and headed off at 4:30 am. Fished until noon with only 2 bass and the largest one was caught after I got fed up with no bass and went bluegill fishing. lol That calandar lied to me . Felt good to be on the water though even if I couldn't catch any. Quote
BoroBass Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Turned out to be true for me. Here's my haul: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1181863645 Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted June 15, 2007 Super User Posted June 15, 2007 great job boro. ill be fishin for the big ones on fathersday using some 10" worms. Quote
G3-Basser Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Well, the charts worked out for me as well. I ended up with 10X as many fish as my last 2 trips. Don't get too excited, b/c I only caught 1 fish on those trips. I ended up with 10 today and my best 2 were 2.5 and 4 lbs. The 4 lber is my 2nd largest for the year. I had high hopes this year and it's been a bust so far. Last year by this time I had several over 5 lbs and in my best day last year I had 21 fish, including a 7.5 lber and I had hooked another just as big on the same trip and lost her. I'll see if the pics came out and post later. -J Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted June 15, 2007 Super User Posted June 15, 2007 Didn't get to go today, too many things going on at work. :'( Quote
surfer Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 I check the solunar also, but I only give it about 10% with weather bieng 50% and luck 40%. So I went out on my home lake with 200 minnows in the bate bucket and chased after schooling bass that were targeting minnow. We would look for lots of bass jumping or birds diving and run up to them. It was a loud approach, but the bass didn't care. As soon as we got to them we would throw lures at them and throw in a handful of minnows to keep them fired up. I landed 5 1 and 2 lbers. we had 12 fish in the boat. Not my best day this year, but good enough. Quote
FatBoy Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 I check the solunar also, but I only give it about 10% with weather bieng 50% and luck 40%. I think this is the ticket although we can argue about the breakdown of percentages. I got nothing yesterday (but to be honest I didn't have much time on the water). Yesterday, the solunar effects probably made the difference between tough conditions and TOUGH, TOUGH, TOUGH conditions (for me). Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted June 15, 2007 Super User Posted June 15, 2007 *Gasp* Went today.....at pond that we WORE them out last week.... Didn't do so great. I think the solunar tables effect fishing, but are not a determining factor. Quote
