Me and my cousin were fishing his brother-in-law's pasture pond yesterday. We did OK with catching about 12 bass each. But we witnessed one of the most bizarre events I've never heard of before. He was using a top-water plug. He was ALMOST finished with his retrieve....about 1 foot off the bank. All of a sudden I hear "KA-SLOOOOSH".....my 1st thought was that my cousin had fallen in the pond. I wheeled around and there on the bank was a dad-gummed catfish. :o It had tried to hit his lure as he was about to lift it from the water and evidently missed and actually landed about a foot UP the bank. I couldn't believe it. It flopped it's way back down to the water and away it went. We were fishing from the spot where the catfish are usually fed from, so I'm wondering if it thought that someone rang the dinner bell. Y'all ever heard about this happening before by a catfish???

years ago i watched a guy on a pond on Ft Hood catch a fish on a skitter pop(?)...right as he was about to land the fish it came off the hook...the dude threw down his rod and went in head first....and came out with a 12lb catfish in his hands..it was crazy...he told me he caught an 8lber in the same spot on the same lure the week before

About a month ago I had a catfish hit a spook at our neighborhood pond in about 6ft of water.  I thought I had a real nice fish for about 3 seconds, but then I felt it starting to roll.  Dang thing got a treble hook in its eye rolling over and over.  Oh well, I guess it had it coming hitting a bass lure and all.

Did your cousin crap his pants? ;Dquote]

Now that mention it, I do recall him doing a modified "moon walk" trying to get away from whatever he thought was after him. Probably had flashbacks of Lake Placid or something. I'm still kinda stoked about it.

This is a saltwater tale: Had a 30# Barracuda leap over the transom (6' off the water) when a client lifted a snapper into the boat. Hit him in the chest with it's mouth open and we had to haul a-s in to get him stiched, he was multi lacerated and bleeding bad. I always stand to one side when lifting a fish and look behind for predators, this is not unusual!!. Capt. Bob FL Keys
