BoroBass Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Was fishing with a buddy today and he had a fish on the line that was heading for a huge clump of weeds and submerged branches near my part of the boat so I grabbed the net to get him. While I was doing that I saw a fish hit my line and tried to set the hook with 1 hand while I was concentrating on getting the other fish in the net. Needless to say I missed it and it ended up taking the worm clean off the hook. I got the other bass in the boat though, so I guess that was good. Anyway back to the story, about 20 minutes later I had a fish on and I pulled him in and lipped him. I took the hook out with the worm still on it and went to throw him back then I did a double take. Lo and behold still in his mouth was my other worm from earlier, still in-tact. ;D It was in the deeper part of the pond and he took the bait about 30 yards apart, so I doubt it was a bed or anything. Anyone know why he would strike again with the other worm still in his mouth? Really, really hungry maybe? ;D Quote
brian_82 Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 yup, just feeding. Ive seen fish with bits of everything still in their mouths. Quote

Super User Jig Man Posted June 8, 2007 Super User Posted June 8, 2007 I had a smallmouth take a beaver off a jig last week. On the next cast my partner caught it and got my beaver back. Quote
IdahoLunkerHunter Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 yesterday I had been fishing a spot for about 15 minutes and a hog kept toying with me. So, of course, my wife strolls down the beach a little bit closer to me. She hooks the fish I had been working for about 5-10 minutes. Low and behold, it's a little under 5 lbs with a $10 Crank in its mouth. The only thing that would of been better is that I woulda caught it. Gotta love fishing with the wife, you can't get mad at her for walking up on ya, atleast I got a $10 crankbait off the deal. Quote
Trevor in Burke Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 i wouldn't call it highly uncommon, i've caught fish that I lost a hook in not too long after the incident, and this has happened to me more than once.... Quote
paulc Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Caught a 14" smallie 2 weekends ago and it regurgitated an old senko. I think there is salt in them and this one looked like it had all leached out. If i was to geuss it was in him for about a week. Never spit it out. thought it was food. Quote

Triton21 Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 My PB came at Lake Fork this spring on the Forum trip. I broke it off on the frist bite an threw back to the same place it hit and caught it on the second bite. It had my Wacky Sticko and hook in it's mouth. Frist time I ever caught the sme fish on 'back to back' casts and I have been fishing 60+ years. Was 8lb 9 oz. Kelley Quote
Wildbillb Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 When they are hungry they are hungry.....I've only ever caught one before that had just eaten...had the pinchers to a crayfish sticking out of his throught. Quote
Kimbro Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 I once met a couple of friends that had been fishing all day with no luck. I pulled up, casted my senko and first cast caught a nice LM with a crawdad about six inches still in his mouth. Off topic but I lost a rattle trap once to a tree. About a week later a friend and I were fishing the same spot and he pulled in his rattle trap hooked to the one I lost. He offered to return it but I declined. The fishing gods must have wanted him to have it more than me. He tied it on and caught a nice LM a cast or two later. Quote
jwo1124 Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 Sort of the same thing happened to me last summer. I was fishigh with my brother and we caught two different bass still digesting an earlier meal. One had a crayfish it its throat and the other had a frog. I not only found this very interesting, but I found it very useful. That day was a very productive summer day when everything along and in the pond seemed active. The dragon flys were a buzz, we saw minnows being chased clean out of the water by hungry bass below. And I found out that the bass at that certain pond liked to dine on crayfish and frogs. Now I hope to get lucky throwing topwater hollow bellied frogs and texas rigged soft plastic craws. Quote
