How do they do it? Do they really catch that many fish in one outing, in one day? Are there secrets, how are they so good! Gosh i would marry bill dance

I assume it is a day of fishing that they smash into 22 minutes of tv program.

Im sure a whole day of fishing produces 22 minutes of fish for most.

I wish I could catch the size of  fish that Bill Dance catches.  I believe he fishes on private ponds.  I am relatively sure that they catch their fish over a day or two and then edit it into their show.

Bill Dance fishes a lot of private Florida pits and other private ponds from what I hear. You can tell it from the footage too. I really enjoy watching ole Bill. He's a lot of fun and seems to always have a good time. I would too if I had access to all those private pits! ;)

Most shows are from a few times out. I've seen several, such as Jimmy Houston and Shaw Grigsby who mentioned that they had fished a few days to make the show. They weren't trying to hide it. It can be tough sometimes, so I fully understand! 8-)

Dance fishes lots of pits in Florida. But on the other hand I have seen some swamp pics and kow those places are in Arkansas. Ever notice many times he is a smaller aluminumboat and Cypress trees. He is fishing the backwaters of White River Refuge in Arkansas or Felensthal. We have seen him on both.

I dont care to watch any big shot fish El Salto or some other Mexico lake I could never fish.

Yes, they take a couple weeks to film and then do the dirty work.

I really like the shows where you know the lake they are on and time of year. Those may still take a couple days or weeks but you have a chance to repeat it.

Bill Dance is by far my favorite as he just seems like a good ole boy and would drop everything to help a fellow angler. I try to buy whatever tapes I can find off ebay of his. I'd take his course if it wasn't so expensive. I like Hank Parker as well..

The best fishing program on TV in a LONG time is "The Bass Pros" sponsored by Bass Pro Shops.  The segments with KVD alone are worth the price of admission.  Sadly, the Denny Brauer and Larry Nixon shows are no longer being produced.  All of these actually taught something instead of being a disguised infomercial.  Bill D's shows were, IMO, a whole lot better when he traveled around instead of the private water shows that he does now.

Gotta give old Bill a break though, he's been fishing for quite a while and getting up there in age.  If I was him I'd kick back on my private pits as well.  No need to go thrash about a 1,000,000 acre reservoir when you've already proven you can do that ;)

I think Hank Parker was the one who really got me hooked on Bass Fishing.  Bill Dance is #2 on my list and then I really like the Denny Brauer too.

Which one is the fish kisser? Jimmy Houston or Roland Martin? I think it is Jimmy.

I like Roland Martins show, but he is sometimes fishing for sail fish in the caribbean or something, so its not as good.

Either way, I dont really get them here in Canada like I did when I lived in the US, so that sucks.

I like em all.

But I'm sure gonna miss "The fishin' Hole" with Jerry McGinnis.

He was just a down guy with his silly little dog.

He says things like "Gosh, and Golly" and other stuff no one would be caught dead saying if they wanted to be cool.

Something that Hank Parker does that the many other shows will not do, is tell you where he is fishing, as well as the duration of the trip.  If Hank is fishing for five days in CA, he mentions it in the show.  If he is on a three day trip with his sons in Georgia, then he lets us know.  Bill Dance doesn't ever tell where he is, or how many days the trip took.  Most others don't share both peices of info either.

I like Roland Martin's shows, myself, as well as Bill Dance's program. I also like the Ultimate Match Fishin' Show on the Outdoor Channel.

I think it's interesting that none of the current Pro's do their own fishing show.  "The Bass Pro's" is as close as you really come for "how-to's".  Both Nixon and Brauer were doing it while they were into the tournmanent scene - Would love to see Ike, Skeet, G-Man, etc. do their own show -- wonder why they don't?

This is true.  "I like the "how-to" shows but there are so few of them.  "The Bass Pros" is the best show in my opinion, but I've seen them all a few times now.  I'll be glad when they film some more episodes.  Bill Dance gives some "how-to" info as well on some of his shows.  For newbie anglers, don't be discouraged if you can't boat numerous big fish daily like the television guys.  As Avid stated, "It's television."  There's a lot of editing going on.

From someone that has done several: Me.

Usually filming is complete in less than two days. Seldom does it go over that. Yes, there is editing. Most of what you see actually occured, just not in 22 minutes.

The longest shoot I was involved in was with OLN - 5 full days, 22 hours of film shot, all for a 22 minute show. However that was a most unusual show and shoot.  A good deal of what was shot was for other segments and other times.

I have a question.  Everytime Bill Dance hooks into a fish it seems like he continuing his conversation from before the cast.  Does he just say the same things over and over each cast until he catches one?  If so this would drive me nuts.

i heard from a reliable source that on Bill Dance's show, the water is electricly shocked causing the fish to bite anything they see.  He fishes his own private pond. Every fish he cathes looks the same, good tips but not really realistic

i really don't like to name names like this, but the person who told me this was Chet Douthit, he guides on Okeechobee now, but he had a successful B.A.S.S career, he is known to be in the top 50 greatest B.A.S.S fisherman, he is a personel friend of people like Roland Martin and knows all the B.A.S.S people, He has written a few articles for BASSIN magazine, he and his wife have a contract to do their own fishing show because the won "The Last Cull " Reality fishing show. He is part of the Tv fishing thing now, he said Dance has done it for years, and isn't really that rare of a pratice. I m just relaying what i was told.  This came up because i asked him why every fish that dance catches looks the same, he just catches 4 pounder after 4 pounder, they are never smaller or bigger.

Don't quote me, but somehow the water is shocked , i dont know anything but what i was told

thats pretty interesting,by any chance do you know how they did it and what they used. i wouldnt mind catching 4 after 4 every day ;D ;)
