I was fishing today and while i was sight fishing i saw a bass on the corner of a dock. Casted to him and noticed a large school of fry right beside him. Well while in the same gut i saw a stump in the water and after casting to it i noticed another school of fry and caught a bass on that cast. My question is how can i tell what type of fry they were and why was the bass there? Feeding? Each school consised of about 200 fry and were so small really couldnt tell what they looked like. Is there a way to tell bass fry from bluegill fry?

The fry were baby bass. The bass you saw were males gaurding their fry. It wont belong before the male turns on them and starts to eat his own babies

Mattlures is right, depending on the water temp it could be anywhere from tommorrow to 3 weeks from now, but eventually the male bass, along with the other bass in the lake will start to consume the fry. When I notice this happening (bass chasing fry in the shallows) I usually throw the Excaliber Shallow Fry, usually in a baby bass, although if the water is cloudy i like something with a little more flash to it.
