weknowhowtolive Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Me and my buddy go to some ponds/mini lakes where there are some normal sized largemouth bass. We've gone about 10 or 15 times in the past year, but he's one of those guys who doesnt wake up on Sunday till about 2PM so we've never gotten out very early. I've finally convinced him to get out earlier and he's willing, but we dont really know what to use from the shore. The vegetation around the shore is pretty thick, so I was thinking about ordering some weedless frogs...we've tried senkos but havent had much luck. I really like spinnerbaits but from the shore they are almost impossible to fish in the areas we are. I see people out there in kayaks and some little rafts and tubes and they always have good luck with spinnerbaits and jigs fishing along the weed beds but we cant get that angle. Any other ideas? (sorry that was all kind of a jumble) Maybe we just suck at fishing? Quote
JuniorFisherJJ08 Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 i have a lake i fish like that. Let me say i prefer it from a boat, but it is still fishable from the shore. If you can find a hole about 2ft x 2ft or so and are pretty good at casting take a senko (or curly tails) and cast over it while texas rigged no weight. slowly reel so it drops in the hold and very very slowly pick it up and drop. Try wading? Quote

Try wading? I should had added this is an old quarry so it drops to 80 feet fairly quickly. THere is a little shore along the weed beds and from what i can tell it goes out quite a ways. But wading is out since its a public park with signs that say "no bodily contact with water" Ill try senkos again, though...maybe try some lighter colors Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 31, 2007 Super User Posted May 31, 2007 Try flipping or pitching a jig or T-rig Quote
JuniorFisherJJ08 Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 you cant go wrong with a senko, no matter what color. for dropping it in holes, i prefer a darker senko. i do switch off to a chartreuse while fishing beyond the moss. Quote
NEBassMan Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 are you allowed to wear waders to wade out into the water? Since your skin never actually touches the water?? Otherwise, i'd throw a hollow body frog early in the mornings along the top of the slop. Jason Quote

I definitely want to try a frog so i will do that next time. Quote
captaininsaneo Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 nothing more exciting than a hollow bodied frog, and the situation you're describing is perfect for it. hop your frogs through all that thick stuff and hold on tight. Quote
brian_82 Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 It was already mentioned. But I would use a t rig worm, probably 3/8 ounce or so to punch through the pads. Quote
wvwask Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Tie a rope on the end of a rake... sling it out as far as you can and make some holes in the cabbage... then come back and fish those holes... Sounds crazy, but it has worked in the past, I have even read there are some tourney fisherman that do this from their boat. Rake a couple of trails in the veg in the morning, come back and fish it in the afternoon... Weird tactics for weird fish.... Quote

Last October I was in texas and fished a frog for 3 days and it was the most fun ive ever had fishing. Now...a follow up.....best/favorite brand fog? Quote
Shad_Master Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Something you may want to try is throwing a crankbait and let it crash into the weeds - chances are the fish have never seen this and will more prone to give it a bite -- you may want to have a T-rigged worm or senko as a follow-up if they bite and don't get buttoned up. I did this on a pond that I fish regularly a couple of years ago and hit a 6#er. Quote

I did this on a pond that I fish regularly a couple of years ago and hit a 6#er. I tried that on accident....these weeds are thick. Any hook that touches them is staying there, pretty much. Only thing I could really get out of them was a texas rigged senko but i wasnt having much luck with it at the time. Quote
bubbler Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 It mite be easier to use a softplastic frog that you can rig weedless yourself. It is hard to set the hook on say a snag proof frog or a sumo frog. hard nose frogs work well to/ they are durable. Quote
