IdahoLunkerHunter Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 1. Good Bass Lures... I always tell someone who is getting into bass fishing to learn and master to the best of there ability the senko. The senko is one of the most versitile lures. You can flip it, skip it, swim it, and anything in between. Once you have learned how to properly fish a senko you should move to hard baits and terminal tackle. Buzz baits, spinner baits, jerk baits, and crankbaits are primarily what I have in my arsenal. I fish soft baits probably 80% of the time, so mastering how to use these is essential. Soft bait preferences are senko's, fat ikas, sweet beavers, creatures, and lizards. 2-3. Fishing Reels: Visit http://www.bassresource.com/beginner/Fishing-Reels.html 4-5. Fishing Rods: Visit http://www.bassresource.com/beginner/bass_fishing_rods.html Note: All fishing rods and reels are primarily by preference. Size of reel, what action, feel, ratios, price. I would suggest a M/H action rod with a 5:1 or 6:1 on 10-20lb stranded line. 6. Line also depends on preference and what you are going to using as bait and what technique. I usually stick with a 20lb when I'm flippin in the weeds/lily's blind not knowing what is lurking below. Most other techniques I use 10-15lb. 7. Leaders are an attached piece of wire or regular line from the bait to your fishing line. Carolina rigging is usually used with a leader or walleye/pike fishing. Super User roadwarrior Posted May 30, 2007 Super User Posted May 30, 2007 Welcome aboard! There is a lot of information out there, both questions and answers. My suggest is to start here: http://bassresource.com/beginner/beginner.html Quote
IdahoLunkerHunter Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 9-10. Fishing Temperatures: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/Fall_Fishing.html . Note: There are parts of the year where fishing temperatures and depths might not seem possible but they are and trust the statistics. During winter and pre-spring temps you might be fishing in 45-55 degree temps. At these temperatures I fish 40+feet in depth. When spring temperatures are rising and water temp is rising to 55-65 I start fishing the beds. When it is dead summer and summer temps are hot. I fish the shallows in the morning and then afternoon move deeper, look for structure, and cover. The article above will give you some good advice. 11. Here is a good video from the bass proffessor about night fishing. Visit: Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 30, 2007 Super User Posted May 30, 2007 JF Bass, Just read the posts on this forum and you will learn a lot. Then, get some videos about specific baits and techniques. Read, read and read. Suscribe to Bassin, Bassmaster Magazine and Bass Times. Join B.A.S.S. and FLW and read their publications. Uncle Homer Circle has some very good books. Consider Bass Wisdom by Homer Circle. The Lau videos on Bigmouth and Bigmouth Forever are excellent. The Feeding Habits of Bass is also a winner. Anything Ike or VanDam are excellent. Woo Daves collection is also very informative. And rember, ask questions and read the posts on this site and you will be in the Classic in no time. Quote

[[J4cks0n.Shr3dd3r]] Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Hey, glad your interested in Bass Fishing like me. I can help you out as much as I can. I know the moderators on here will give you a link or something, but I will try my best to help.. If I am wrong about something, hopefully someone else will correct it.. 1Q) What are some good Bass lures? 1A) Spinnerbaits, Buzzbaits, Plastic Worms/Grubs/Lizards/Frogs/Shads, Floating/Suspending Minnow, or anything that looks like something you will find where you fish. 2Q) What is a good reel when price doesnt matter? 2A) It depends if you want spinning reels, or baitcasting reels. If you havent used a baitcasting than I suggest starting off with a spinning rod, and practicing with a cheap baitcasting untill you get the hang of it... But back to your main question, Abu Garcia, Shakespear, Quantum, Phlueger, Shimano, Daiwa, and Zebco. I would stay away from Zebco, and stil with the rest. Just go to a fishing store, and see what feels right to you.. 3Q) What is a good reel on a budget? 3A) Like I said, any reel listed above. Go to a fishing store and try out the reels and see what you like in the price range.. 4Q) What is a good rod? 4A) Ugly sticks. Very good rod, can be pricey at times, but it is hard to damage them. Ugly Sticks are made by shakespear(sp).. Bass Pro has their name brand rods that are pretty nice. You want to look for one with 7-9+ guides/holes/eyes, for more precist casting and more support. 5Q) What is a good rod on a budget? 5A) Same as number 4. Ugly sticks. Get a Medium Heavy rod. 6Q) What is the best line to use? 6A) This is hard to say. I don't know if you mean brand or what strenght. I personally use Trilene 8lb blue. Works really well and really strong. But you can try many brands and types, its all up to you. 7Q) What is a leader? 7A) Not 100% positive on this one. I dont use them very much. Help guys. 8Q) How does one Carolina Rig? 8A) http://www.bassresource.com/beginner/Carolina_Texas_Rig.html 9Q) What temperture is cold to a Bass? 9A) Anything below 75 celcious. I'm not saying you cant catch one below 75, but its hard to unless your fishing a priate pond that hasn't been fished very much, also called "Fishing Under Pressure". 10Q) What temperture is hot to a Bass? 10A) I am not sure about this one either. My guess would be anything above 100 celcious. Help guys. 11Q) What are good lures to Bass Fish at night? 11A) Well, I havent fished much at night. I would use live bait, or something REALLY bright colored. At night I use a Linder Light Up Bobber, with a big live nightcrawler on a big hook. Works well at night. I hope this helped. But if anyone finds any of my information wrong, or misleading, PLEASE correct me. I am not a professional. Go catch a monster bass. -James 8-) Quote
wvwask Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 I have just recently got into Bass fishing. I have some questions about it. 1. What are some good Bass lures? There are so many, hard to say. To get an idea, grab the latest issue of bassin' or something and look at all of the ads. There are so many lures and so many different ways to catch bass, this is too broad of question. I personally use senkos, tubes and shallow crankbaits for the fishing I do. 2. What is a good reel? (price does not matter) Shimano is my first choice. 3. What is a good reel on a budget? Shimano will fit your budget or break it, they have reels on all ends of the spectrum. Starting out, go with a spinning reel, easiest to learn. 4. What is a good rod? (price does not matter) - St. Croix, All Star, Im sure there are tons of them I missed 5. what is a good rod on a budget? - Check out your local sporting goods store and find one you like. You don't have to fish name brand, go check them out and find one that is 5.5 - 6.5 to start. 6. What is the best line to use? - Get something in the 10 lb range to start. Berkley XT is my choice, especially for a beginner. No use to get into the high end lines in the beginning. I've been bass fishing most of my 29 years and I have used Berkley XT or XL 8lb test almost the entire time. 7. What is a leader? - something you rarely use bass fishing 8. How does one Carolina Rig? - search the articles here for great info on that 9. What temperture is cold to a Bass? 10. What temperture is hot to a Bass? - I think these depend on your area. Here in southern ontario, they get pretty active around 70, not sure about under that mark as they are out of season until the end of june. 11. What are good lures to Bass Fish at night? - jitterbugs, pop-rs and black colorado blade spinner baits for me These are just my personal preferneces. Im sure there are a lot of guys with a lot more knowledge than me. If I can help, just drop me a line bucketmouth@inbox.com Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 First now go get a notebook YOU ARE GOING TO NEED IT.
