Super User Jeff H Posted May 28, 2007 Super User Posted May 28, 2007 Do you fish most often with a partner or alone? If 100% covers a seasons fishing time, what percentage of that do you fish alone and what percentage do you fish with a partner? What kind of boat are you fishing out of? Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted May 28, 2007 Super User Posted May 28, 2007 75/25 For me. Since I retired earlier than most, I find more time to fish than my family and friends. I fish from a 25' Baja center console W/250 Merc. Falcon Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted May 28, 2007 Author Super User Posted May 28, 2007 I'm just curious how people are fishng I guess. I used to fish alone almost ALL the time because I was usually out in preparation for some tournament in a gas sucking 18' tournament boat. Now I never fish alone, (I have 2 boys) but if I did I'd have a 15 or 16' Mod V aluminum boat with a small motor on it since I rarely fish any lakes over 2500 acres. Just kind of curious how big of boats guys that run alone most of the time are using. I've been getting the impression that most guys here don't chase the money and was curious how often they fish alone if they do at all. Other than that, I don't know how to answer "why?". Just a thought that ran through my head is all. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted May 28, 2007 Super User Posted May 28, 2007 When I am at home, I never get to fish alone. There is always someone who I need to take or who invites me to go. However, when I am camping I get to fish alone a lot since most of my friends don't have campers. I camp somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 days per year, mostly on lakes. So over half of my fishing is by myself. I am an old fart and don't tournament fish any more. I fish from a Champion 206 with a 225 Optimax on it. I fish lakes from 25000 to 60000 acres. Quote
heathen Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 80% alone/20% with my nephew. 16' Jonboat w/9.9 Quote
Super User flechero Posted May 28, 2007 Super User Posted May 28, 2007 These days I fish with people probably 80%-90% of the time. (it used to be the opposite) but since they are always invited guests, I still cover expenses as if I were alone. Fishing out of a 19' Champion/175 hp. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted May 28, 2007 Author Super User Posted May 28, 2007 flechero, Jig Man...those Champions are are the best riding rough water boat I've ever been in. Quote
fishingfourfun Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 100% with people. I need someone to verify my "lies" when I go home. Quote
WhiteMike1018 Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 100% of the time with somebody else unless im bank fishing. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 29, 2007 Super User Posted May 29, 2007 99% of the time I will be with someone. Boats? Lets see jon boat, bass boat, and pontoon boat. Quote
Fendercaster Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Right now, it's about 75% with a buddy, 25% alone. I just got a little pond boat that is easy to load/unload by myself, so I'll be able to fish more by myself. My Tracker is still in Maryland, I hope to go up and get it next week. When I do, I'll fish it in larger lakes, 100% of the time with a partner. Quote
flyphisher # Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 85% of the time, I fish alone in one of my boats..... other 15%, I am fishing with one of my 2 tournament partners in their boat. Most guys that did fish with me in my boats, wanted to use my stuff and not help pay for parking, gas, or anything and would complain, stay hung up.....so its cheaper and easier for me to fish alone for now..... Boats: 18ft Polarcraft bass boat, 13ft Gheenoe, and 8ft One man Pontoon craft.....Buying a 19'6 Ranger from a buddy in next couple of months....w/ gas prices going up at least i have toys to look at.... :'( Quote
Super User RoLo Posted May 29, 2007 Super User Posted May 29, 2007 Partnered: 95% Alone: 5% Boat: 16-ft Key Largo (glass center-console) 75-hp E-Tec Roger Quote
Super User senile1 Posted May 29, 2007 Super User Posted May 29, 2007 80 percent alone. 20 percent with someone. 1987 15' 6" Starcraft Magnum 150 with 70 hp Johnson. I can squeeze this boat into places where larger rigs can't go and I can still take it out to Truman Lake (55,000 acres). Top speed is almost 40 mph but I have to be careful in the wind and in big waves (like Lake of the Ozarks main lake on a weekend) with my 73 inch beam. Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Several years ago my wife fished with me 100% of the time, but she got tired of getting up so early in the morning and/or night fishing. Now,I'd say that I fish 80% of the time alone and 20% of the time with my 16 year old son.He likes it,but he is a sleepy head. I fish out of a renovated 16 ft Terry bass boat with a 25 HP Yamaha. Quote

Personally, I fish 90% with someone out of my 1995 Javelin w/115 Evinrude. It's the only new boat I've ever bought. She may be old but she's (me) still catching fish. Quote
R520dvx Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 25% alone - 75% with a partner Ranger 520 - 225 HO Quote
Spnrbait_ Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 80% alone. Kids are too young so when I get a chance I usually don't have time to wait on a buddy. 16ft grizzly Quote
bassnleo Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 I usually fish with 3 people, ME, ME, and ME No really, I do fish alone about 95% of the time. I admit that I'm a little stingy with my time off from work, and quite frankly when I'm not working and heading to the lake I want to be alone to clear my head. I'm around soo many people at work that I need to be alone, it refreshes me. It's nice to have a family that understands that........I do also spend time with my wife and daughter, I just have my times where it's me and me only. The other 5% is with my tournament partner and on tournament day. We pre-fish alone in seperate boats so we can cover more water. Quote
