krisjack69 Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 What is the best bass fishing magazine to subcribe to.I'm leaning toward Bassin' magazine what do u think? Quote
Super User Raul Posted May 25, 2007 Super User Posted May 25, 2007 BassMasters magazine is light years away from what it used to be, not only has gotten thinner through the years, the content is scarce, poor & teaches nothing, hell, it doesn 't even have the adventures of Harry n 'Charlie anymore ! > Quote
rdneckhntr Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 I had bassmasters...but i was stupid and let my subscription go bad...i forgot to send my money again... Quote
JayW Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 BassMasters doesn 't even have the adventures of Harry n 'Charlie anymore ! > Hey, I remember those. I think I still have some old ones laying around somewhere from the mid 80's when I had a subscription. Those were pretty funny! Quote
ValleyBoy Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 I remember Harry and Charlie! I loved those stupid stories. I used to be a member of B.A.S.S. but that was years ago. Has the mag really slipped that much? Quote
Super User Raul Posted May 26, 2007 Super User Posted May 26, 2007 Save yer $$$ and stay right here at good 'ol Bassresource.com. We may not have "Harry and Charlie" but we've got Ed Bassmaster and some of the best advice anywhere. Weeeeellllll ...... we 've got Muddy & the Mook Squad, I guess that 's as good or even better than Harry n 'Charlie. And yes Valley, BM mag is that bad now. > Quote

SuthernProg Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 I've been pretty happy with the FLW's Bass Edition magazine. Much better after a year or so getting off the ground. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted May 26, 2007 Super User Posted May 26, 2007 In my opinion, you'll get the most useful and pointed information in periodicals that are published by your home state. Local publications offer the 'Where', 'When' and 'How' on the very same lakes that you're fishing. For example, when I lived in Georgia I subscribed to "Georgia Sportsman", and now that I live in Florida I'm getting "Florida Game & Fish". Among the national magazines, I still believe that the best by far is "In-Fisherman", a highly scientific magazine that goes well beyond black bass. Another technical, multi-species magazine is "Fishing Facts", which was Al Lindner's springboard to the In-Fisherman (The baton has since been passed to Doug Stange). Roger Quote
The Largemouth Herald Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Had them both for awhile and they both have their good points. I don't get either of them now. I watch the fishing shows on VS and ESPN as well as read a lot of bass forums like this one. Quote
krisjack69 Posted May 27, 2007 Author Posted May 27, 2007 I never liked in fisherman. All I care about is bass fishing and bream fishing.I don't care about smallmouth, musky or pike fishing since there aren't any here in southern georgia. Quote

Sometimes.....it's worth it to pick up In-fisherman just for the bass articles, but I wouldn't want a subscription to it. However, IMO the best bass fishing publication out there is the In-Fisherman Bass Fishing Annual. Only comes out once a year, but well worth the wait. Quote
Ky_Lake_Dude Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Bassmaster is far superior to bassin I have picked up some bassin magazine's here and there. I don't care for them at all. Go with Bassmaster 100%. Quote

Those aren't published by the state but rather by a large publishing corp that does so for pretty much every state. I used to subscribe to the VA magazine, but it rarely had anything of interest. True, they're not published BY the state, they're published FOR the state. What I really like about state-restricted magazines is that I'm within striking distance of any body of water they might cover. On several occasions I have read about buoy markers, points and drop-offs that I was intimately familiar with. That's something you will rarely encounter in a national publication, and something that can really be applied. Roger Quote
