ValleyBoy Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Alright, let me explain. I have no boat, and as bank fisherman know, we sometimes have very limited areas on the bank from which we can fish. I have this little honey hole that is beautiful. It is the epitome of what one thinks of when one thinks of a bass pond. It also produces a lot of fish. It is completly fenced in by either natural (read heavy brush) or man made (actual fence) on all sides except one. Even on the only accessible side there is really only about 20 yards of shore to stand due to heavy brush. Here is the kicker. In the only open area, there are bees. Everytime I fish there I get buzzed . It's cast and swat, cast and swat. I have never found there hive, and I'm not sure I want to either. I'm pretty sure they're not killer bees (we have those down here, and yes they kill people, but rarely). I also feel very guilty when I kill them because I know that they are somewhat of a shortage right now. Anyway, a smarter man would stop going to that pond.......but man there fish there! :-/ Quote
Red Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 get yourself one of those beekeeper suit deals...ya know with the mask and all that...then you would be set!! Quote
Super User grimlin Posted May 28, 2007 Super User Posted May 28, 2007 Maybe try getting some wader or a float tube. Not sure how deep the water is where your fishing, but that 20 yards of open shore changes once you wade or float. Quote
jdw174 Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 I'd haveto say that if the honey bees are actually buzzing or coming after you that you must be in pretty close proximity to their nest. Here's something you might try.... See if there's anyone around you who sells the Amway line of products. Some years ago, they made an insect repellent called D-15. I used it religiously when wade fishing flooded marshlands. When I was doused with that, I could wade through fields that were loaded with bees/hornets/wasps and not one of them could get within 3 feet of me! Now for the bad news. Amway no longer makes the D-15. However, they do have a replacement for it. I have a can of it, but have never had to use it yet so I can't say if it's as good as it's predecessor. You might give it a try. Quote
ValleyBoy Posted May 28, 2007 Author Posted May 28, 2007 Wading is out of the question as this pond is swarming with water moccasins and other snakes. Believe me, I thought about wading. As for a little John-boat, I may well try this. I just know if I get get moving in there, the bass I could catch would be astounding. Quote
